What Owners Say
"the shifter assembly was defective and would not sense that the vehicle was in Park. This prevented the vehicle from being powered off competely. The vehicle spent almost 6 weeks at the dealership in order to obtain a replacement part. A rental car was provided for the duration and the costs we covered by warranty. First year of new models often have growing pains. I remain very pleased with the second generation Chevrolet Traverse."
Anonymous, NS (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)"Would not accept park, kept chiming, had to keep jerking shift stick until it stopped."
Anonymous, ND (2018 Chevrolet Traverse High Country 3.6-L V6)"Appears to slip into Neutral sometimes when driving. Second appears related to software, doesn't know it's in park."
Anonymous, TX (2018 Chevrolet Traverse High Country 3.6-L V6)"The shift linkage needed to be replaced because it had to be forced to go into park."
Steve V., MI (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)"I would put the car in Park and turn off the engine, but the car would give me an error message that the car was not in park. I was not able to lock the car when this message was given, although I could still drive the car. I had to turn it on, put it in drive, put it in park, turn it off, and repeat until the message disappeared."
Jenny D., PA (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"Part of the recommend fix for transmission slippage."
Anonymous, FL (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)"Hesitation shifting from 0 to 40 mph"
Anonymous, NY (2018 Chevrolet Traverse High Country 3.6-L V6)"Rough shifting in lower gears when accelerating and it was mostly when in the 2wd mode. Replacing the transmission fluid has resolved the issue."
Anonymous, NY (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"The car has had shifting issues from the first month we got it. Over time they have slowly gotten worse. CHEVROLET can't seem to be able to recreate the problem so no action is ever taken. It stumbled and shut off once, now warning, no codes. They don't know why. I'll never buy another GM veh, I have been a GM guy all my life, till now."
Anonymous, TX (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"9-spd tranny has never shifted smoothly, either up or down. Noticed this from day one of ownership. Even after transmission rebuild, shifting is still a bit jerky especially from a stop."
Anonymous, IL (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)"From the beginning the transmission would shudder during low speed gear shifts. This was a common issue with the newer 9 speed transmissions in the vehicles and early assembly dates. The early models had the incorrect transmission fluid added at the manufacturer. A Technical Service Bulletin was eventually released to all dealerships. The fuild was changed and the transmission computer reprogrammed about 18 months ago and have not had any reoccurences since."
Anonymous, NS (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)"Vehicle shudders when shifting but is not consistent, does it 80+% of the time. Been problematic determining the cause, Chevrolet is in process of getting parts to change out torque converter, hope it fixes it.. makes you feel like do I have a lemon, other wise great vehicle I love. Have been getting 29 mpg on trips, fantastic.. fix the shuddering!"
Anonymous, TX (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"Rough shifting at all speeds."
Anonymous, TN (2018 Chevrolet Traverse High Country 3.6-L V6)"Occasionally when shifting from park to drive, transmission does not immediately engage. For this brief time (a few seconds) the transmission acts as if it is In neutral and vehicle can move if on incline and foot off brake."
Anonymous, (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"sometimes qhen you go from park to drive it takes 30 seconds then slams into drive"
Anonymous, (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"Performed recall to try to fix problem. Finally replaced tourqe converter."
Anonymous, MI (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)"The traverse has two peculiar issues with the transmission. One is the sensor (I’m guessing) when I start the car and then take off immediately after starting. It hesitates when I put it in reverse or drive before the engine and transmission sync. I have to reapply brake and wait for the car to actually engage the trans and take off. So, I start car and let it sync before taking off. Second, more serious, is that on mountains / steep grades for several miles the transmission heats up horribly going up a mountain ( can smell the overheated transmission when in low 2nd gear) for the drive up. When going down the mountain, I put it in low to get the transmission to assist in slowing the speed, but it doesn’t work. It’s like I left it drive or put it in neutral. I end up riding the brakes. All the way down the mountain. We have a cabin in Hiawassee, GA in the Appalachian mountains. Out here in Texas we have no steep grades around here and beside the hesitation it works great and gets great gas mileage on flat ground. It’s not very good driving through mountains."
Slade M., TX (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"While driving the transmission would slip into and out of neutral."
Anonymous, FL (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)"At times, the transmission would slip from a higher gear to a lower gear."
Anonymous, PA (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"one time stopped shifting properly-check engine alert verified trans. problem.Told by dealer that engineers are working on a solution.Only happened once and corrected inself"
Anonymous, MI (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"The car didn't recognize that it had been shifted into Park. It would give a warning tone if I tried to leave the car. Had to turn it off and back on multiple times until it recognized it had been shifted. This happened several times with increasing frequency over about three weeks. I eventually was able to learn a workaround from the dealer which helped until I could get it in to be fixed."
Anonymous, WI (2018 Chevrolet Traverse High Country 3.6-L V6)"when running and in park then shifting to drive, would not move, had to put in park again then shift to drive. Corrected by program update"
Anonymous, IL (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)"#5 sensor failed."
Anonymous, MI (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"Shift to park issue. Even though vehicle is in park, message comes up on screen that says "shift to park". This causes warning signal to keep dinging and you are unable to lock the vehicle. Problem started with less than 10000 miles. Experienced this problem about 6 times. Dealer was able to fix problem with installation of a jumper wire."
Anonymous, (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"It seems that these cars along with other GM Auto Transmission equipped units have a problem with the Transmission sensor. The computer detects a failure to put the transmission into park even though the shifter is in Park."
Anonymous, FL (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"transmission stuck in 2nd gear"
James T., NE (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)"Transmission pump was replaced along with the transmission as they believe that a pump-related pressure buildup is what caused the transmission failure."

"When you stopped the vehicle and shifted into Park, the shit to park warning indicator came on and would not go off. In other words, the system did not recognize that the vehicle was in park. It was very difficult to get the alarm to go off. I had to keep shifting back and forth and messing with the selector to get the alarm to go off. The radio also would not go off. Had to take it to the dealer to have the selector assembly replaced."
