Transmission Minor
Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.
What Owners Say
"The transmission changes gears like an old tractor. The entire car will shudder, jerk suddenly, and then pitch forward. Downshifting is choppy and slow. The engine will frequently rev at 3500+ rpm when coasting downhill at less than 40km/h because the transmission can't figure out what gear to be in. Every red light feels like an experiment in how close the engine can get to stalling. Every driving experience is lurchy and awkward, without exception. Easily the worst car I have ever owned."
Anonymous, ON (2015 Chrysler 200 LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Low end shifting is like riding with a new manual tranny driver."
Walter K., LA (2015 Chrysler 200 Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Mostly between 4th and 5th gear, the transmission jerks harshly (pulls you back in your seat). Intermittently does the same thing in other gears. Just waiting for it to fail completely one day."
Anonymous, MI (2015 Chrysler 200 S 3.6-L V6)"Computer update"
Anonymous, IL (2015 Chrysler 200 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"luring when shifting in low range"
Anonymous, PA (2015 Chrysler 200 Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"When you start out and it's cold it seems to want to quit. Places you in dangerous situation when trying to enter roadway"
Anonymous, OH (2015 Chrysler 200 C 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"It seems to get stuck at times when put in gear and then suddenly slams into gear and bolts forward abruptly"
Anonymous, AZ (2015 Chrysler 200 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"The vehicle had a very rough downshift when decelerating to a stop at about 3mph. The dealer re-programmed the powertrain which eliminated the bad shift however the fuel economy has been dramatically affected (reduced by 4-5mpg)"
Anonymous, MI (2015 Chrysler 200 C 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"on a coast or light braking coming off a highway ramp it had a hard down shift. It did not want to shift and felt like it was speeding up then would lerch as it down shifted. Dealer said it was from 2nd into 1st. Almost replaced the transmission but instead replaced a valve block in the transmission"
Anonymous, TX (2015 Chrysler 200 C 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Car cannot seem to find right gear"
William E., FL (2015 Chrysler 200 S 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"After 4 updates the tranny still is harsh shifting on low end of gears"
Walter K., LA (2015 Chrysler 200 Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Rotary dial gear selector was a nightmare. Car would lurch into 1st gear and wanted to take off from a dead stop"
Patrick D., IL (2015 Chrysler 200 C 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Constant jerking or shifting hard with the 9 speed auto transmission. Even after new transmission it need recurrent computer updates to make it shift smoother. I dislike the constant jerky shifting in city driving"
Anonymous, UT (2015 Chrysler 200 LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"On occasion, there is a very perceptible jerk when the car is shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Whether this "hard shift" occurs or not seems to depend on how much throttle I am applying at the time. This is apparently a not uncommon problem for this car and transmission (9-speed auto). On two visits to the dealer for service (routine, not transmission specific) they have updated the software for the transmission. On both occasions, it seems like the problem disappears for awhile, only to reappear a few weeks later. I actually don't know if the problem goes away and comes back, or if I just drive differently because I am paying close attention to how things run after the software update. This is not a problem that happens everyday, but maybe once a week."
Anonymous, IL (2015 Chrysler 200 S 3.6-L V6)"Trouble has been well documented with this new type of transmission. Numerous computer upgrades, complete transmission change out and the rough shifting no down shifting when going down steep hills is still going on."
Anonymous, LA (2015 Chrysler 200 Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Thumps and con jerk"
Anonymous, IA (2015 Chrysler 200 S 3.6-L V6)"At speeds above 40 mph the car shifts fine. At speeds less than 40 mph the shifting is not smooth. It is worse at 20-30 mph. Shifting is up and down, enough so that you feel it jumping up a gear and then back down. Dealership says there is no fix. We have had all the updates to the software. Other than that I do not drive it, my wife drives it back and forth to work. I do not like driving it because of that and the fact that I do not like my visibility that the car offers when in the drivers seat."
Anonymous, NY (2015 Chrysler 200 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"At times it doesn't seem to shift as it should while accelerating"
Anonymous, AZ (2015 Chrysler 200 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"The transmission slips or fails to shift when accelerating. It has been serviced several times for the problem - the results is software updates that reduce the horsepower of the car. We recently upgraded to the life time warranty because we anticipate major problems with transmission"
Anonymous, MI (2015 Chrysler 200 C 3.6-L V6)"Constantly updating the computer"
Anonymous, IL (2015 Chrysler 200 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"hard shifting"
