Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

"passenger side door latch lock replaced. Replaced two sensors in engine"

Robert S., OK (2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Clock

"The radio/clock/CD player simply stopped working. Actually, it only works with the car ignition is in the accessory setting, not while the engine is on"

Anonymous, GA (2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring)
Cruise control

"Problem still not resolved. Cruise control doesn't work properly"

Anonymous, WA (2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Multi function switch failure; the switch on the steering column failed and had to be replaced"

Darrell F., PA (2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser GT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Gauges

"The guages themselves are fine, but the osme of lights within them are out making the speedometer in particular difficult or impossible to see at night. Replacing the lights involves removing thewhole instrument panel"

Jimmy B., MA (2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser)

"It started with the instrument cluster going in and out; one minute I had speedometer, gas gauge, etc. and the next minute I would not. We tried multiple fixes and had to have the cluster rebuilt. The main problem we experienced was with the ECM or PCM that controls engine operation plus the wiring harness that attached to it. At approximately 50k miles all of these things were shot!! It cost me an arm and a leg to get it all fixed with rebuilt parts/systems. Then the motor(s) that operate the convertible top went out. We know the mileage was correct before the rebuilt instrument cluster as this had been a family member's "baby" play toy second car, always garaged and not driven much."

Anonymous, TX (2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Anonymous, (2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Base 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Horn

"The horn stopped working. After spending money at the repair shop they couldn't locate the problem so we have no horn"

Anonymous, ON (2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Base 2.3-L 4 Cyl)
