"The idiot light has been on for years.,they say it is the oxygen sensor."

Anonymous, SC (2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The driver's seat belt warning light and warning tone started coming on for no reason when the car was about 3 years old. After several unsuccessful attempts by a qualified mechanic to locate and repair the electrical fault or component causing the issue we decided to unplug the warning tone generator and ignore the light. This was not the most ideal remedy, but it was by far the cheapest and most convenient. Who would want to spend many hours and for most people hundreds of dollars to repair a seat belt warning? I have owned and operated an automotive business for many years, so my expense was minimal, but the time and aggravation was not."

Donald W., GA (2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Meineke said it was the oxegen sensor to not worry. Great. Now I won't know what else goes wrong. BTW the car was given to me by my in-laws when they got to old to drive. I I am grateful but I am also too short & had to put wood shims on the gas pedal to drive & a block for my left foot to rest on due to legs cut circulation cuz feet don't reach flat to the floorboard. Can't knock a gift horse in the mouth."

Coil

"in 2018 after replacing plugs/wires/smog control components (temp sensors etc.) first start of day was okay. Next start if made after short drive would turn over then quit. Would not start unless throttle pedal depress completely. Then sometimes engine would stumble and idle around 300-400 rpm chugging. If didn't stall, opening throttle no help and this would occasionally happen at stop lights with traffic impacted. Had to turn off ignition and wait several seconds before trying to restart. Eventually local mechanic suggested replacing coil which had never been replaced since new (2006). Problem has not re-occurred in past 3 months. Believe coil intermittent failure to be source of problem."

What Owners Say

Cooling fan

"Fan Failed, Replacement cost much moolah"

James D., FL (2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Base 2.3-L 4 Cyl)

"Car wanted to stall at lights especially with the AC on"

Anonymous, FL (2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Base 2.3-L 4 Cyl)

"Realized no AC cooling when Stopped. Loud pop noise with vapor cloud venting under hood happened repeatedly until no AC cooling anytime. Found venting was Freon overpressure due to overheating of freon as radiator cooling fan low stage motor had failed. No warning. No indicating lights. No check engine light. Much on Internet helped identify problem which is chronic for PT AC system. Eventually compressor would not operate due to low level of freon. Had to replace cooling fan and recharge freon. Outlet temps now at 34 degrees. This fan is commanded on low speed anytime AC or Defrost-Defog (with/without AC) is selected ON thus is High usage. Without Defrost from AC Compressor operations, I found defog non-existent until engine reached operating temperature and this a real safety concern with windows fogging up. Average driver likely to disregard or misunderstand why no AC and no Defog. Expensive repair if done at dealer."

Thomas C., CA (2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The engine temperature started to climb whenever the vehicle was idling in gear, esp. in heavy traffic when the weather was hot. Without driver intervention the engine would seriously overheat and boil the coolant. We encounter hot weather and heavy traffic conditions often in Atlanta. This problem proved to be difficult to diagnose and successfully repair. After replacing the radiator, the fan motor twice and the fan control module, the temperature still goes up occasionally but not as regularly or as seriously as before."

Donald W., GA (2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Overheating

"Intermittent problem w/temp gauge rising, intermittently, under load. No leaks noted. one shop thought drip noted from heater core, replaced that. still overheating one week later. block tested: ok. still losing coolant- bubbling noise when shut off"

Shelley S., MA (2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring 2.3-L 4 Cyl)

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Roof and Rear bumper cover clear coat peeling off and paint fading. Probably caused by the sun"

Randolph I., NJ (2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser GT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"paint on the bumpers crack. I had a finisher try and repair which lasted about six weeks. I wish I had gotten the rubber bumpers as they seem to take more wear"

Anonymous, IL (2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited 2.3-L 4 Cyl)

"The problem is more than three (3) years old , I miss read, the paint on both front and rear bumpers have paint clear-coat peeling off. Misread because of custom paint on front"
