The three-row Durango SUV is another impressive example of Chrysler's resurgence. While previous Durangos were rather mediocre, this one is a luxurious, refined, and capable SUV that rates at the top of its category. Too bad a history of lackluster reliability gives pause. The Durango, which shares a platform with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, does an impressive job of combining workhorse utility with ample creature comforts.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

What Owners Say

"Great acceleration, smooth ride, very good towing capabilities for an SUV"

David C., CA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"transmission (too many shifts)"

Anonymous, PA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Strong without draining the tank."

H B., NC (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Absolutely great. We were shocked by the outstanding acceleration...passing is no longer frightening! The handling is excellent, whether in heavy traffic or on the highway dodging deer. Turning ratio is excellent for length."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The ride is comfortable and acceleration is quick when you need it. Happy with the gas mileage"

Anonymous, SC (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Sharp turn radius, good acceleration on highway."

Anonymous, MT (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Great handling and acceleration. Best vehicle I have ever owned."

Mike S., IL (2014 Dodge Durango)

"MPG regularly is as advertised. Vehicle is very comfortable on long trips, seats (heated OR cooled) easy to adjust, overall the SUV meets my driving and hauling needs."

Anonymous, VA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"I have the v-8 Hemi, which offers smooth and very adequate acceleration without having to "punch it.""

Gary S., LA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"don't like the acceleration at all; especially when entering the interstate"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Dodge Durango)

"SUV with hot rod roots. HEMI is great in the Durango. Those used to cushy vehicles will not care for this."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Dodge Durango)

"I have had problems with the 8-speed transmission not responding properly, particularly at lower speeds. There is a hesitation that can be a hazard in certain situations when you are expecting immediate acceleration. It has been taken in for repair, but I'm told it's not considered bad enough to fix or replace. Apparently a common issue with the Durango transmissions."

Jim S., NE (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Can be sluggish when accelerating quickly. Handles great."

Kellie C., OH (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Exceptional ability to accelerate for passing. Very easy to handle and dive."

Richard W., AZ (2014 Dodge Durango)

"This car is a true joy to drive. I refer to is as my Soccer mom sports car - all of the power and fun of a Charger with the road clearance and abilities of a 4x4. The Hemi engine provides a satisfying growl when pushed. I have owned 2 Blazers, 3 Explorers & 1 Edge - none can compare to this great car."

Anonymous, VT (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The Durango shifts smoothly through the gears and has plenty of pick up to pass."

Daniel N., PA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"It hesitates upon acceleration."

Linda H., IL (2014 Dodge Durango)

"It can tow 7500 lbs and does it with no problem"

Thomas E., UT (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Very smooth"

Anonymous, VA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The gear shift knob is a twisting button. If you twist it too quickly, the car doesn't engage in the gear. I don't like it or trust it."

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Everything!"

Anonymous, OH (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Mpg on trips is great for a truck this big at 35+"

Anonymous, MI (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Love the way the Durango drives: smooth, great acceleration, fun to drive"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Superior acceleration, sharp turning radius, handles very well."

MICHAEL D., MT (2014 Dodge Durango)

"We bought the Durango with a V8 4 wheel drive because we travel extensively through mountains and the vehicle is very responsive, holds speed in all situations and handles extremely well."

MICHAEL L., TN (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The interior is awesome with the all wheel drive handles great ,love the styling, just all around great car"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Best SUV driving experience I have had"

Anonymous, PA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Overall great ride, handling and breaking. I tow a trailer, and the vehicle works very well for this. It is great for long haul travel."

Anonymous, CT (2014 Dodge Durango)

"A very comfortable and good driving experience with the automatic speed controls and other electronics. Especially appropriate for long distant driving. Also has a decent gas mileage."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Dodge Durango)

"I used to own an Infiniti I30t and prefer a tighter suspension and more responsive handling. The Durango handles essentially the way my Infiniti did save for the higher point of gravity in tight curves. It is very zippy and I have never even taken it out of 'eco' mode. No trouble merging on busy highways. The blind spot warning is extremely useful with an SUV where one might miss a small vehicle. All around this was more than I'd hoped for."

STEFANIE C., WA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"It has a hemi engine and it's got a lot of power"

RICHARD P., WI (2014 Dodge Durango)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Seats are very comfortable. Not a lot of room between front and second row."

Kellie C., OH (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The seats are supportive and comfortable."

Henry K., TX (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Road noise is loud Cargo area is limited for the size vehicle it is"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Comfortable, quiet. I have the towing suspension which jerks you around some going over bumps when turning."

Gary S., LA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Lots of leg room in all seats. Front seats have heat/cooling. Great for long trips w/bad back! The ride is comfortable and quiet."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Dodge Durango)

"seats are uncomfortable even after moving them; noise level a bit annoying while passenger is on phone"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The heated first and second row leather seats and heated steering wheel are a true bonus for snowy Northeastern winters. The R/X Limited package provides a more stiff ride so bumps aren't absorbed quite as well, but cornering is very good for a large SUV. The third row seat has enough leg room for a 6'+ tall adult to sit comfortably."

Anonymous, VT (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The front seats have an air bladder in the back but it is positioned far too low for a tall or even average height person rendering the seats less comfortable than could be the case it it was in the hollow of the persons back."

Linda-Peter D., NY (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The vehicle still is quiet while driving down the road.. The seats are very comfortble"

Thomas E., UT (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Very quiet, R/T handles curves and climbs effortlessly, comfortable for long trips (10-15 hours). The safety technologies are top notch, emergency braking, adaptive cruise, backup camera and alerts, blind spot warning, auto wipers and high beams. Essentially if you can keep it between the lane lines, it will do the rest."

Charles P., NM (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Very comfortable, lots of room and I feel very safe inside."

Jaimie H., ON (2014 Dodge Durango)

"I test drove several SUV's prior to buying the Durango. Not one compared to the ride and quite cabin. Fiat has made the Durango a premiere vehicle compared to it's sub-standard past."

DENNIS H., MN (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Seats"

Anonymous, PA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Not as much leg room, especially in second row.I am 6 ft tall."

Anonymous, AR (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The seats are too hard!"

Anonymous, IL (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Very satisfied with the comfort of this vehicle. Controls are more advanced than I have had before and seem to work well, lots of bells and whistles."

MICHAEL F., GA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Wish it was designed with a woman in mind - space to set a purse, seat belt that doesn't abrade on my neck, arm rest to rest right elbow. I'm 5'3" and don't think I'm all that short."

ALBERT R., MI (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Everything is very good"

JOSEPH D., MN (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The fit and finish, material quaility, low levels of road noise, turning radius, and ease of handling all exceeded my expectations. I had a 2011 Honda Pilot previously, and thought that moving into a Dodge (which I needed for towing capacity) would be a step down in all the above categories. Wow! Was I very pleasantly surprised! I can't imaging ever going back to a Honda."

MICHAEL S., AZ (2014 Dodge Durango)

"I find the seats to be uncomfortable on a long trip"

M T., TX (2014 Dodge Durango)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Citadel - Comfortably and ably meets all of my motoring needs. A super vehicle."

Anonymous, VA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Handles very well; quiet, roomy."

Anonymous, MT (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Has been an excellent multipurpose vehicle, like the first one so well we bought a second one just like it. If the safety technologies were offered on lower trim levels we probably would have opted for one of those to save the money the Hemi option costs."

Charles P., NM (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Lot of car with good mpg and strong safety features. The auto stop has saved me from at least two accidents. It hauls our boat and camper easily. Great handling. The auto has actually surprised us on the good side!"

H B., NC (2014 Dodge Durango)

"FOR THE MONEY I PAID, THERE SHOULD BE MORE STOWAGE COMPARTMENTS AND CUP HOLDERS"

Anonymous, NH (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Great all around with solid build quality and feel. $20000 less than an audible or Mercedes similarly equipped."

Dominic V., NJ (2014 Dodge Durango)

"It performs awesome have not had 1 problem"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Features and driving experience are a grade higher than the transaction price I paid. In 2014, the Durango had adaptive cruise, BSM, cross path detection, and active braking collision warning at a lower price than Explorer and other, higher-priced three-row SUVs."

ANDREW J., SC (2014 Dodge Durango)

"exceptional, perhaps the best value in its category"

TIMOTHY H., TN (2014 Dodge Durango)

"I wanted an SUV with the most cargo space that also had adaptive cruise control and forward active breaking assist. For my budget (<$50K) this was the only new vehicle with what I wanted and I ordered it rather than buying off the lot, since there my specs weren't on the lot. With a USAA referral I ended up paying $43K for the technology package Citadel with tow package and reinforced bottom. Worth every penny."

STEFANIE C., WA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Excellent value, great fuel economy, quiet and sturdy feeling. HIGHLY recommended."

Anonymous, MA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"I PAID WAY TO MUCH, I ONLY GOT A 15% DISCOUNT OFF LIST. HOWEVER IT WAS THOUSANDS LESS THAN OTHER SUV'S WITH THE SAME EQUIPT."

Anonymous, NH (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The car has always something, nothing major but I always need to go to the car dealer to repair"

Anonymous, QC (2014 Dodge Durango)

"it's not cheap but it's a nice SUV"

Anonymous, WA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"A great buy!"

Anonymous, OH (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The next closest three-row, body-on-frame SUV's that have similar towing capacity (7,200 pounds) such as the Ford Expedition and GM products (Suburban, Yukon) were $20,000 more comparably equipped. In fact, a $72,000 Yukon XL Denali didn't even have a sunroof!"

MICHAEL S., AZ (2014 Dodge Durango)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"In my opinion my Durango Citadel with Billet Silver paint is the best look looking SUV made. I have never owned a vehicle that attracted so much attention and received so many compliments."

DENNIS H., MN (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Nice, clean lines. Great color and paint."

Anonymous, CT (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The rear tail light across the whole back of the vehicle is a little too much and over powering for other drivers to look at. The previous years of the Dodge Durango had a better rear light balanced appearance."

Anonymous, IL (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The styling of the vehicle is what attracted me to buy the Durango"

Anonymous, PA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"The overall look"

Anonymous, PA (2014 Dodge Durango)

"Everything is very good"
