Chrysler addressed a major shortcoming of the Grand Caravan by improving its interior flexibility. The second- and third-row seats can now be folded flat into the floor, ending the need to remove heavy seats. There's also more in-cabin storage space. However, the increased flexibility doesn't compensate for the number of areas where the Grand Caravan falls short of the better minivans.

"The paint on the hood has faded and peeled in about 12 inch circumference circle"

Fred W., IL (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.8-L V6)

"Bad rust, rocker panels, lower doors"

Anonymous, WI (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan None 3.3-L V6)

"bad rusting on lower sliding doors and bottom side metal areas below both sliding doors"

Anonymous, WI (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan None 3.3-L V6)

"Rocker panels rust out due to foam injected at factory that retain moisture/condensation. Disappointing because i frequently wash my vehicle to prevent corrosion but this causes it to rust from the inside out making rust inevitable. Rust paint peeling on hood and tailgate. Rocker panel problem from 2001 to 2007."

Shawn A., ON (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan None 3.3-L V6)

"The front door and sliding door are completely rusted out on the bottom of the door."

"Vehicle failed inspection due to rust around rear wheel wells. Fixed it myself with body filler and touch up spray paint. have seen rust in this area in virtually every Dodge van of this age. Seems to be a weak spot."

"Significant rust through the full thickness of the edges of the undercarriage."

David D., IL (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"The body is rusting very rapidly in multiple location's. I have noticed ALL other 2006 & earlier van's are rusting in the same way/location's. Seem to be a factory defect."

James Z., MN (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8-L V6)

"The problem started about 9-10 years in. Very bad on rocker panels. Seems worse on the 2006 models as I also had an 02 Caravan with less rust problems. No resolution on the problem. Just letting the van deteriorate until unsafe. Still doing routine maintenance. Unacceptable amount of rust considering care of van."

Anonymous, (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan None 3.3-L V6)

James L., IL (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8-L V6)

Beth F., GA (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.2-L V6)

"It seems as though the 2006 Dodge Caravan eats brakes. I am always getting them done. I would not purchase another Caravan because of this issue"

Anonymous, IL (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8-L V6)

    Power steering leaks

"for many years I have had a strange humming noise. It's almost like a plane taking off! 4 years ago I had the steering pump & reservoir replaced but this did not stop the noise though it did help with the steering which had become ragged. I still do not know what is causing the noise which has become worse. Recently I took it to be serviced and discovered it needed new rack & pinion. But that did not turn out to be the source of the noise. 3 weeks ago I traded it in for the Subaru. I was tol"

Anonymous, MA (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.2-L V6)

"Left front coil spring broke as i was leaving my driveway, dropping down and contacting the tire sidewall. At highway speeds it would probably have shredded a tire. In it's defence it's the original strut/spring combo - 14 years old/306K km. I've put a set of new Monroe coil/strut assemblies on left and right front."

Anonymous, ON (2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.2-L V6)

Had blown out a cooling hose but after replacement, discovered head gasket leak. Used "stop leak" to plug and am still driving the van as I can't afford to replace head gasket. Just keep trips with this vehicle fairly close to home and keep an eye on temp gauge and keep water and oil filled. Currently not having problems with oil/water mixing and driving normally."

"Check Engine light is on with the code P0420, Catalyst efficiency. I think the wear on the catalytic converter was due to the fact that the engine used to burn oil at about 1 quart every 750-1000 miles for the first 150,000 miles. I've replaced the converter with a cheap after market one but that one lasted only 4 years. Debating whether to just junk the vehicle at this point."
