Chrysler might have invented the modern minivan, but time has marched on, leaving the Dodge Grand Caravan feeling dated and past its prime. Their major competitors, the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna, are both far better choices. Not that these minivans lack good points. The ride is very comfortable and settled, and passengers will find a quiet, well-equipped cabin that offers considerable versatility.

Anonymous, CA (2016 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.6-L V6)

"There is an annoying rattle noise coming from under the van that nobody can find the cause. I've had it to the Chrysler dealer twice & twice I asked the garage where I get the oil changed, but neither can pinpoint the cause. The dealer first tightened the taillights & re-installed them the second time, but that didn't make any difference"

"Fan motor was blowing hot air during air conditioning phase"

Anonymous, NY (2016 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.6-L V6)

"Given that I make 400km a week on the highway, I use the air blower a lot. After 80 km, it became noisy and got worse until I paid 200$ to have it repaired. In the last year, the ventilation system cost me 600$. Way too much in my taste."

The cost at the dealer for this (time and parts) is somewhere over 200$. The same kind actuators are used to set where the air goes. It broke too. Anonymous, IL (2016 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T 3.6-L V6)
    Engine knock or ping

"TWO ignition coils (of six) died. Under warranty but not covered! At approximately 59750 miles, of the 60000 mile warranty. NAPA says Bosch is OEM for these and they are lifetime warranty! To get this diagnosis, one dealer replaced the cyl head per TSB but never addressed the complaint. IN TEN DAYS. Second dealer service manager diagnosed ACTUAL problem inside 30 seconds and repaired in a day. Original issue was chugging/violent skipping. *I* had spark plugs replaced for half of dealer estimate! Improved greatly but still skipped/chugged a tad."

Anonymous, WA (2016 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.6-L V6)
    Oil leaks

"Oil filter housing was replaced under warranty for having a leaking crack in it's side. First oil change done at Firestone, remaining oil changes done AT DODGE DEALER to Chrysler spec. Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbo or supercharger, timing chain or timing belt.

    What Owners Say

    Cylinder head

"At 65452 miles one of the cylinders had a compression issue. Because I was over the warranty mileage it was not covered. Fortunately, i had purchased an extended warranty which covered most of the cost of the cylinder head replacement"

    John V., IL (2016 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T 3.6-L V6)

"Compression loss due to exhaust valve sealing on cylinder 6"

    Anonymous, IL (2016 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T 3.6-L V6)
    Head gasket

They said everything including the head gaskets looked good, but it quit burning anti freeze after that. They later finally found a antifreeze leak at the lower side of the oil filter at a o ring. All seams to be good now"

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"The car suddenly died in the middle of the street no forward motion, had to towed it to the dealer. The transmission had to be replace cause the pump failed destroying it. I had a extended warranty because their transmission always goes bad. Also, repaired loose rocker arms that started to ping."

Anonymous, NJ (2016 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.6-L V6)

"Occurred when vehicle was 4 yrs old. For about 4 months before it would sometimes not respond initially to depression of the accelerator when driving at highway speeds. One day while driving on the highway it didn't respond at all and was stuck in a low gear so the van had to be towed and the transmission rebuilt. It was covered under a purchased extended warranty."

Anonymous, ON (2016 Dodge Grand Caravan Unsure 3.6-L V6)

    Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

    What Owners Say

    Normal routine brake wear

"We live in Ontario Canada and get a lot of snow in the winter. The roads are heavily salted in our area. Routine maintenance dictates that brakes need to be disassembled and cleaned every 25,000 km. We had driven about 30,000 km since the last disassembly / cleaning service and the rear brake pads started to stick and drag so we cleaned the calipers and installed new brake pads and rotors. I will take a close look at the front brakes this fall when changing to winter tires but they are working well now. It seems the rear brakes get more salt spray and don't last very long in this environment."

    W B., ON (2016 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.6-L V6)
    Rotors

"I took it back to the dealer twice for the same problem. Ended up taking it to Mavis tires and the problem was resolved by replacing the rotors which were suppose to have been replaced by the dealer."

    Anonymous, NY (2016 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T 3.6-L V6)

    Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, antifreeze leaks, water pump, thermostat, overheating.
