CR's Take

The Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis twins are among the last big rear-drive sedans with a full frame and a V8. Despite being a bit dated, both remain competitive in the large-sedan segment. Both ride quietly and comfortably and handle adequately for cars this big, though the steering feels too light. Traction control helps provide grip in slippery conditions. The soft front bench seat could use more support, and the rear seat isnt as roomy as youd expect. But the trunk is suitably cavernous. A new option for 2001 is a power adjustable pedal height. The 4.6-liter V8 has also gained 20 hp, and the headlights come on with the windshield wipers.
