Product Reviews

Welcome to Consumer Reports.

We’re so glad to have you as a member. You now have access to benefits that can help you choose right, be safe and stay informed.
The Ford Focus combines a roomy, ergonomic cabin and easy access with a comfortable ride and sporty handling. But the quality of interior materials is low grade. Also, fuel economy is unimpressive. While overall crash protection is good, the Focus received a Poor in the IIHS side-crash test when tested without its optional side airbags.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for about 500,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2018 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Wah W., TX (2007 Ford Focus SES 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
Electrical failure

“This model is notorious for alternator failures and this car had it replaced before I bought it and I had to replace it again shortly after buying the car used. Apparently the alternator design faulty and is located too close to the engine block and”

Anonymous, IA (2007 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

“The paint has been slowly cracking and peeling for about 2-3 years now. Rust has started to settle in on the body in those spots. Maybe I am expecting too much for a 10 year old car, but Ford has been trumpeting the veracity of its finish and rust treatment for years now. But I probably shouldn't be sqwaking since I live in Central Ontario where we get fairly cold winters and are located in a significant snow belt”

Anonymous, ID (2007 Ford Focus ST 2.3-L 4 Cyl)

“Engine mounts wore and needed replacement”

Mike K., TX (2007 Ford Focus Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

“They have yet to crack but the shock absorptive items installed with the mounts have dissolved away and can't seem to be replaced without the whole mount being replaced. this situation causes excess vibration and the likelihood the mounts will crack”

Nanci B., TN (2007 Ford Focus Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

“Weird enough, the problem started three days after i had an oil change and was getting worse very quickly - had to take car in after two weeks. Took the car to another shop, where they topped the transmission fluid and break fluid, which was also almost on empty. Don't want to put blame on the shop where I was before - it's a 10 yr old car - but not coming back to that first shop, since my assumption always was that checking break fluid is a major checkpoint every time you are in the shop that i”

Anonymous, MD (2007 Ford Focus S 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

“The private repair shop took 3 visits to fix the problem”

Anonymous, WI (2007 Ford Focus SE Unsure)

“Solenoids go out regularly”

Anonymous, TX (2007 Ford Focus S 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
Slipping transmission

“Auto transmission seems to shift late constantly. I have t either let off the gas momentarily or gun the engine to get the transmission to shift to the next higher gear. In addition the cruise control will slip out of gear sometimes causing the engine to race dangerously high until I turn the cruise control off”

Wah W., TX (2007 Ford Focus SES 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, NS (2007 Ford Focus SES 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, MN (2007 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
