A freshening didn't hide the fact this was a nine-year-old design. Once among our top-rated small cars, this version rated only midpack. It retained some of its agile handling, plus the composed ride and roomy interior. But fit and finish and noise remained weak points. Further, there was no longer a telescoping steering wheel, or assist handles to aid access. Braking distances got longer.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for about 420,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2019 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

"In last 2 years, have had to replace all 4 engine/transaxle mounts"

Anonymous, TX (2008 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"There have been symptoms of this issue for a number of years actually. I was told there were throttle body issues and that was causing the engine to run very rough. I was also experiencing some issues in the way the clutch & steering felt. It was a gradual decline, so I just attributed it to wear and tear on the individual parts. Within the last few months, the issues worsened and I was hearing an intermittent, loud rattle from outside the engine when at highway speeds. On my next oil change I asked the service tech to take a look, as I had a tie rod replaced on the same side of the vehicle and thought it could be related. They came back and said it was an engine mount and I had it replaced. This seems to have resolved 90%+ of the issues that I have had, and the car feels as close to when I drove it off the lot as I can remember."

Anonymous, TN (2008 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
