Sporty handling, relatively low noise, and a well-done interior make the Focus feel more like a small sports sedan than a humdrum compact. Though not blazingly fast, the Focus does get good fuel economy. Several flaws keep it from being one of our top-rated small cars, though. The most irksome of those is the PowerShift automatic transmission, which stumbles at low speeds.

What Owners Say

"Instant torque"

Lincoln L., AZ (2014 Ford Focus)

"This car accelerates very well in a very short time."

Anonymous, NM (2014 Ford Focus)

"The transmission is terrible, the car hesitates when you are trying to accelerate. Could be dangerous."

David B., CT (2014 Ford Focus)

"The transmission in this vehicle is an embarrassment. I cannot stand the constant shuddering and wacky shift process."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"I have the ST model, which was built for driving pleasure of the sports car variety: manual transmission, turbocharged engine, performance tires, and so forth. I am unhappy that Ford is discontinuing this model, but I expect to be driving my ST for years to come. I know of someone who got his 2014 ST up to 155 mph. That's definitely not for me, but I love knowing that it is possible. The only other sports car that I would want would be a Porsche Cayman, but it would be triple the price, and I'm not sure that I would enjoy it more."

Daniel H., MS (2014 Ford Focus)

"Like overall handling and responsiveness. Do not like transmission shift from 1st to 2nd. r"

Karl S., NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"The handling is excellent. Better than most sportscars."

Robert M., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Poor low end acceleration. This is due to being a little bit underpowered."

Matt P., KY (2014 Ford Focus)

"Although 250hp / 250ftlb are now not industry leading figures, it is relatively light car and combined with the 6MT it is fun to drive. Straight line speed and acceleration not of much interest to me, but it's mid range in gear speeds are useful in traffic. The corners / handling are where the ST shines (eps for the price rel the Golf GTI), hours of simple fun - steering precise and suspension stops excessive roll. Most enjoyable on the track (once per year at local circuit) but brakes are limiting factor here and can fade at the end of the day. The overall gearing is low (optimized for 0-60 or track?) but a light car with 250ftlb of torque should not be turning 3000rpm at 80mph on the highway. Would prefer a lower final drive ratio (I'm not interested in off the line speed) or add a 7th gear! Regardless, I enjoy the car when I drive it and my friends enjoy driving it too."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"Really fun powertrain"

Paul F., VA (2014 Ford Focus)

"The transmission is terrible. Jerks when starting from a stop. This is a known problem with the design of this transmission and Ford has no fix for it."

Anonymous, MA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Acceleration is excellent, handing is above expectations for it's class and orig. cost. It is fairly comfortable."

Larry E., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"This has got to be the worst engine/transmission combination in any Ford I have ever driven. Only 45K miles on the car and it has already had a recall repair on the Dual Clutch set up, and it is on the fritz again already. Engine has plenty of power, just can't match up to the horrible transmission."

Eric M., NC (2014 Ford Focus)

"under normal quick acceleration - and great gas mileage even in DC Metro area traffic - 28-40 mpg (40+ is on interstate trips between DC and Philly) granted I rarely run the AC - love the fresh air w sunroof & windows open during commute before being cooped up in a government office building all work day)."

Anonymous, MD (2014 Ford Focus)

"Very crisp handling and maneuverable."

Anonymous, CT (2014 Ford Focus)

"Car accelerates very, handles well, and is somewhat fun to drive"

Don M., MD (2014 Ford Focus)

"We had to have the clutch replaced (under warranty) and it is still not working correctly, especially when the A/C is running. It is still under warranty and we need to take it back again. The car will not always accelerate smoothly, it will buck and shudder."

Elsbeth C., NC (2014 Ford Focus)

"Sporty, fun to drive Hesitation"

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Ford Focus)

"Accelerates from a slow stop very poorly."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"fun to drive. reasonably fast, low to ground. just really enjoy it."

William B., MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"good handling acceleration good mp"

Anonymous, NH (2014 Ford Focus)

"Acceleration is good but not as good as competitors like Subaru or VW GTi. Handling is great, not your typical FWD understeer but you can actually get oversteer."

Dale K., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Drove cross country trip. 8,000 no problems! Great gas mileage, very nice car!"

Dennis K., MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"Transmission problem which was a problems with that years transmission.....was finally corrected and paid for by Ford"

Anonymous, OH (2014 Ford Focus)

"Ford has replaced faulty automatic transmission clutch 4 times since Sept 2015."

Nancy D., NH (2014 Ford Focus)

"Grip and handling above average for Ford Focus, and the Electric maintains that. Lively around town, just adequate at highway speed."

John K., NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"The problem transmission hesitates bad sometimes or the car jerks when shifting to second gear"

Anonymous, VA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Just recently, when there were 4 adults (160 - 260 lbs.) in the car, the engine sputtered when going up a somewhat steep hill at a slow speed (25 mph)."

F G., NJ (2014 Ford Focus)

"Once the vehicle gets into third gear if drives nicely, for a small vehicle. The poor transmission provides for a choppy and stalling ride in the first two gears."

Robert O., NV (2014 Ford Focus)

"My 2014 Ford Focus is like driving a small sports car. Acceleration is good, it holds the road great, and it is fun to drive. Occasional slight jerking with 1st and 2nd gears. Not really a problem. Downshift is good when braking in "S" mode and I can also go to manual shifting. I like this car."

Carl N., PA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Tight handling and vehicle response."

Daniel M., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Transmission shifts a little rough at slow speeds, but the handling and acceleration are good for a compact car."

Anonymous, IL (2014 Ford Focus)

"Acceleration, and even more so, handling, are great. I am tall and have a lot of problems fitting in cars, not this one (e.g., I don't fit in the Fusion, knees bang steering wheel when moving between pedals). Seats are excellent (though I wish the headrest were 1/2 inch further back). However, the windshield has unpleasant glare/reflection. The dashboard reflects onto the windshield. Glare can be unpleasant. Side mirrors also reflect so strongly that they partially block the image they are showing. Fix it all with polarized glasses. But, that should not be the case."

Matthew M., NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"Best bang for the buck out there. Handles daily duties well, but beats competition in performance and driving Dynamics."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Ford Focus)

"Acceleration and handling are very good. Transmission problem was fixed by reprogramming the transmission computer."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"For the most part, handling is very good. My biggest complaint is with the acceleration, because of the problems with the transmission. The stuttering of the transmission in first gear is distracting and disconcerting. It feels unsafe when you are trying to get across traffic."

Anonymous, MO (2014 Ford Focus)

"Automatic Transmission shudders and shifts erratically."

Peter E., MD (2014 Ford Focus)

"Takes a long time for the vehicle to start moving after I put it in gear. It is sometimes a dangerous problem when there is other traffic near. The transmission shutters, jerks or doesn't move, just sets there & revs the engine."

Paul B., MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"The problems with the transmission are well documented. Definitely affects the acceleration, which is not at all smooth."

Thomas H., IN (2014 Ford Focus)

"excellent"

Anonymous, CT (2014 Ford Focus)

"Hesitation in transmission when accelerating."

Anonymous, AZ (2014 Ford Focus)

"Transmission needs to be changed."

Eva S., TN (2014 Ford Focus)

"Its fast for a low priced car. Handling is very impressive."

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Ford Focus)

"Acceleration is a little sluggish especially when entering a highway."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"The transmission used in this automobile is horrible. At slow speeds or stops, the front end (from wheels to steering wheel) vibrates. This has been discussed on many online forums, and Ford has recognized the issue. Unfortunately, they did not fix it."

Valerie H., NH (2014 Ford Focus)

"clutch design sucks. i have already had it replaced after many problems. car still shudders going in/out of 2nd gear."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"This is an excellent car, it drive wonderfully."

Gregory P., VA (2014 Ford Focus)

"The Ford Focus has a known issue with the automatic transmission. It has erratic shifts at low speed, especially after slowing or stopping."

Steve L., AL (2014 Ford Focus)

"The transmission of the car causes significant shuddering, shaking, vibration, when accelerating from a dead stop."

Anonymous, MN (2014 Ford Focus)

"When first purchased, horrible acceleration at speed when driving home from dealer. They fixed that part, but then the vehicle had acceleration problems at low speed. Finally, some 3 years later, a different dealer fixed the problem by replacing the clutch, they said. Apparently there is a class-action settlement about this (for which I've received a notice). Previously I liked Fords, but never again!"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Good for a smal car"

Anonymous, QC (2014 Ford Focus)

"It's very zippy."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"It accelerates like crazy! Very fun to drive. Handles very well but seems limited by the tires."

Albert S., NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"Handles exceptionally well for an inexpensive car. Acceleration is not linear as appears to be geared for fuel mileage and takes time to downshift and accelerate."

T B., VA (2014 Ford Focus)

"The clutch slips when accelerating."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"Excellent handling on twisty roads."

Robert M., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Fuel mileage. Styling of car."

Laurie G., CT (2014 Ford Focus)

"worst transmission in any vehicle I have owned on over 45 years of purchasing automobiles."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Ford Focus)

"I feel that a large engine would be better. Handling is good no complaints."

Charles C., MA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Terrible. After 2 repairs, i finally resigned myself to having a poorly driving car. It either accelerates way too much, doesn't accelerate at all, tach surges but the transmission appears to be disengaged, rolls back at stop lights. Just not good."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Ford Focus)

"Great cornering and handling. Acceleration is quite adequate. Ride can be harsh compared to a larger car."

David M., MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"At touring speed, my Focus is responsive in both power and handling. At slow speed or from a starting point, the stuttering of the transmission (hesitation, bumpiness, shudder) is frustrating and unacceptable. Two visits to the dealer have not cured the problem."

Daniel M., TX (2014 Ford Focus)

"problems with the transmission in accelerating in first gear. has been replaced twice."

Anonymous, WI (2014 Ford Focus)

"The automatic transmission moves through low gears like a person who has never driven a manual transmission! Dealer said that is the nature of that type of transmission and I found many similar complaints on the Internet. I have had the car for the months and cannot get used to the shuddering and hesitation."

Anonymous, MA (2014 Ford Focus)

"The transmission is very inconsistent and somewhat nervous. It does not present a feeling of dependability. This car is not one to be driven for a long time."

Kenneth C., GA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Auto transmission shift issues when changing speeds, slowing then accelerating."

Steve L., AL (2014 Ford Focus)

"transmission was rough take off and shifting from about 6000 miles until fixed about 40000 miles"

Anonymous, MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"The lousy transmission makes acceleration a challenge. Handling is fine."

Anonymous, NV (2014 Ford Focus)

"Transmission seams to buck sometimes between 1st & 2nd gear between 2nd & 3rd gear but not as much."

Thomas T., PA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Good gracious, this car is atrocious. I've had it in the dealership shop multiple times, and it never gets better. Thank goodness for the warranty, I suppose. Clutch was replaced at 39000 miles, and it still feels like the car is going to shake apart. Now there's a class action lawsuit. Honestly, this put me off Ford. I'm sure I'm upside down on this car, but I'm about to just take the financial hit and buy a Subaru (literally. Am test driving this afternoon). Never again, Ford!"

Anonymous, KY (2014 Ford Focus)

"It drives and handles like a rally car. It has a European feel and quality to it, much like a German built car, but at a lower price point."

Mathew D., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Acceleration is ok but should have better 0 to 60 for the amount of HP this car makes. it really needs a limited slip diff. Handling and especially cornering is exceptional on twisting roads."

Dale K., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Transmission is terrible, it always slips when accelerating, and Ford says there is nothing that can be done to fix this problem"

Anonymous, CT (2014 Ford Focus)

"I am most impressed with the power this car has going up hill, passing, and steering in the mountains, especially given the gas mileage: 40+ on highway driving!"

DOUGLAS B., AZ (2014 Ford Focus)

"Handles good, but you know its a front wheel drive car. Have to keep grip on steering wheel after hard turn or it will straighten out to fast"

PHILIP B., AZ (2014 Ford Focus)

"Very smooth and quiet acceleration and good handling except for some excessive torque steer when accelerating out of a corner."

Anonymous, MD (2014 Ford Focus)

"Acceleration is pretty good for an electric car. One of my biggest complaints about this car, though, is the terribly turning radius. My truck does tighter u-turns."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"The transmission slips even after they claim the fixed it. This is a safety hazard and could cause an accident. It really concerns me when driving, especially when making a left turn through traffic."

MICHAEL G., IL (2014 Ford Focus)

"While accelerating, the transmission jerks and falters as it shifts upward. When I took it in for service, the rep smiled mournfully and said, "That's just the way it works.""

PATRICK Q., MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"Transmission is a complete failure in design. Car will be worthless in 2 years. Several lawsuits going on right now against Ford."

FRED P., IL (2014 Ford Focus)

"The transmission shifts very roughly. Had a recall notice for the transmission for software programming. Still having the issue to a slight degree when the weather outside is warm or have been driving for a while."

PETER T., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"It inconsistently has a hesitation if I'm accelerating after a stop -- caused me to jerk ahead a few times. On icy roads this was the most unnerving."

JOANNE T., WI (2014 Ford Focus)

"Probable trans problem starting. Stutter occasionally when accelerating. Believe it is in the transmission clutches. Do not believe it is in the fuel delivery system."

Anonymous, SC (2014 Ford Focus)

"It accelerates and handles well, and is simply fun to drive."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"This model has transmission issues that affect the quality of driving and driving safety."

FLOYD R., UT (2014 Ford Focus)

"Drives like a BMW (we have the stick shift)"

KEVIN B., MD (2014 Ford Focus)

"I love to drive this car, the handling is superb"

KRIS S., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"The most fun car I've ever owned."

MATT M., PA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Variable transmission is awful on take off from full stop.Hate it. Handles ok."

MARTIN G., FL (2014 Ford Focus)

"Transmission refused to shift properly, especially if I was in stop and go driving."

THOMAS K., ME (2014 Ford Focus)

"Head snaps back on acceleration. Very fast from complete stop. Almost "touchy", it takes some getting used to. Something to do with its transmission. I like it though;)"

KURT S., IL (2014 Ford Focus)

"Acceleration is NOT as good as I would like for an EV. My Nissan Leaf was very fast from a standstill, but the Focus seems just a tad slow. Once you are moving, it accelerates well, but I expected more "pit of the stomach" fast acceleration like most other EVs. It does handle well, and for a small car, it provides lots of safety features, (ABS and traction control)."

BRONSON B., GA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Transmission is very clunky. Stop to 50 mph very jerky. Only way to get it somewhat smooth is to punch it. Very unhappy with shifting in this vehicle, sometimes it doesn't respond as it should, delays."

RICHARD R., MD (2014 Ford Focus)

"so-so handling and weird acceleration - it always "bucks" when trying to accelerate from a complete stop."

LEN F., IN (2014 Ford Focus)

"Transmission seems to slip intermittently. It has been recalled; but, dealer makes me wait 1 month to come in for fix. I keep forgetting to go in"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Great handling and easy to drive."

Anonymous, NM (2014 Ford Focus)

"there has been a hesitation on acceleration when, stopping on a incline, when I took it back to dealer, at first they knew what I was talking about, but when I pick-up my car; the gentleman said, 'oh it's a standard, I thought it was an automatic, we couldn't find the problem.'"

SUSAN G., NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"The transmission issue is not unique to my vehicle. In fact, there was finally a recall after my 4 attempts to fix the transmission."

ADAM B., FL (2014 Ford Focus)

"Transmission is not smooth, often seems to be in wrong gear also. Sometimes I drive in Sport mode so it hols gears longer. It upshifts too soon"

ADAM S., WA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Mostly OK, but acceleration is a bit ragged (jerky) starting out from dead stop. I think they have programmed the engine control/shifting to emphasize jackrabbit starts. I'd prefer smoother handling."

HAROLD B., MD (2014 Ford Focus)

"Substandard acceleration. The car has enough HP & torque on paper but it doesn't translate to the tires or the real world."

MICHAEL S., FL (2014 Ford Focus)

"Excellent handling, Sharp steering, good stopping , the 2.0L 4cyl. engine has plenty of power and gets great gas mileage. Very economical upkeep, uses regular gas and regular oil."

CHARLES H., OH (2014 Ford Focus)

"Car reacts and drives like a sports car"

Anonymous, IN (2014 Ford Focus)

"The acceleration is not smooth in this vehicle, we have had an update for it, but the service technician said it could take several thousand miles for it to adjust to my driving, but there are 2 drivers for this vehicle so maybe it will never work. The handling and gas mileage is great."

ELSBETH C., NC (2014 Ford Focus)

"Gear shifting from stop to acceleration at fast speed is still rough. Dealer explained that this is normal with the dual clutch system and is within factory specifications. At slower acceleration from stop gear shifting is smoother."

Anonymous, BC (2014 Ford Focus)

"Tight and responsive steering, ample power over a wide RPM range. Wish it had a sixth gear for even better fuel economy at highway speeds of 75 MPH."

CHARLES P., IL (2014 Ford Focus)

"0 to 60mph in less than 10 seconds or quicker, depends on how quickly you want to get to 60mph. Handling is tight drives like a sports car"

SANDY E., KY (2014 Ford Focus)

"Clutch slipping upon takeoff is horrible"

MICHAEL A., NC (2014 Ford Focus)

"Sluggish at lower gears!"

Anonymous, RI (2014 Ford Focus)

"I found the 2L engine to be more powerful than expected"

D S., FL (2014 Ford Focus)

"The automatic transmission uneven and rough, and makes me suspicious of whether it will fail in the future. I have taken it back to the dealer, who updated the software. This did not make any difference. They said that there is nothing wrong with it, that it is supposed to feel like a manual transmission. In fact, it feels like a manual transmission driven by someone who is just learning how to use a manual transmission. I normally do not buy extended warranties, but am considering doing th"

T H., IN (2014 Ford Focus)

"For the price, the acceleration is smooth and brakes are sure footed. Fun car to drive."

TIMOTHY J., CO (2014 Ford Focus)

"Such a quiet car. It does a respectable job at accelerating. It is way to easy to chirp the inside tire when accelerating hard and turning the wheel."

DAN L., IL (2014 Ford Focus)

"See above box"

Anonymous, QC (2014 Ford Focus)

"I am very disappointed with Ford. I have had the car 2 years and nothing has been fixed. The car frequently surges, jumps, and occasionally stalls when starting off. This is extremely dangerous when entering a busy hiway. When parking (slow speed, large steering wheel movement) the car frequently makes several loud pops coming from the front end. I have a hatch back. The rear door occasionally comes unlatched, you have to pull over and manually close it."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Ford Focus)

"I like the overall driving experience. The only problem is the periodic shuddering during acceleration in 1st and 2nd gear. I haven't been able to get the dealer to do anything about it, stating it's within standards, but Ford has extended the transmission/clutch warranty to 100k."

What Owners Say

"Interior headliner is water stained due to seal leakage. In winter there is always moisture or if cold, ice on the windows. Window trim falls off regularly as does the felt(?) trim pieces under the dashboard. I've owned many ford products and this is the only one I have ever been dissatisfied with."

R R., MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"Recaro seats are excellent. Ride is compliant and sporty. Noise is average for this style of car."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Ford Focus)

"Seats (std not Ricaro buckets) comfortable even driving over 600 miles a day on those few occasions. Ventilation is poor. Controls are simple and work well but the location and positioning of the vents, esp central are terrible and just blow air on your hands when they are 10-2 or 9-3 on the wheel. Not conformable when using AC at all. Ride surprisingly compliant for a sporty car, just need a bit of care over the speed bumps. Noise level is average."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"Driver's seat is very comfortable, but the passenger's seat is lower, not adjustable and not as comfortable because of the height."

Elsbeth C., NC (2014 Ford Focus)

"Car rides well without a lot of noise. I'm happy with it."

Don M., MD (2014 Ford Focus)

"I like it all expect for the road noise it handles great good mpg it's just very noisey"

Anonymous, NH (2014 Ford Focus)

"Front window is too sloped; both my husband, who is tall, and I (short) have a hard time getting comfortable - we are either too close to the roof, or our knees hit the steering wheel. The seats also are a bit hard."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"The ride is not harsh, but it is somewhat noisy. The seat comfort is very good, in my 6'3" opinion. It is a level of comfort I would have considered unattainable 25 years ago."

Francis C., KS (2014 Ford Focus)

"Very uncomfortable"

Anonymous, OH (2014 Ford Focus)

"Seats are good enough to NOT be uncomfortable. They could use a little better foundation and more cushion."

Doug T., TX (2014 Ford Focus)

"The car is quite comfortable, except for the head rests. I am short and because the head rests curve forward, my entire body curves forward and down if I have the head rests in the recommended position for safety. This is extremely uncomfortable, so I end up positioning the head rests as high as they will go although this will do me no good in an accident."

Anonymous, NM (2014 Ford Focus)

"Noise is fine; Ride is sports-car like (I like to have a feel of the road - driving conditions). But...! Still having significant issue with transmission in the vehicle - very rough in downshifting and fast accelerating (ex. slow exiting onto Interstate hwy and trying to quickly get zoom-power onto highway; very rough downshifting (ex. going between 30-40 mph, down to 5-15 mph and then back up to 35-50 mph. Ford has a recall; dealer has evaluated my car 2-3 times; made repair and extended warranty but it feel it's unsafe and not sure what else I can/should do. Can you help??"

Robert M., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Seats are comfortable only drive seat has controls of moving up and down. Hard for passagers who are older to get out side passagers door."

Laurie G., CT (2014 Ford Focus)

"noisy in cabin, poor acceleration, tight seats, rear seat very tight, good handling, bad transmission changed twice by Ford."

V N., NJ (2014 Ford Focus)

"The seats are leather and not very cushy. The back of the chair is curved in a backwards 'c' and is now t good for posture or my lower back. The headrest isn't adjustable enough. The ride is great once cruising. But sometimes stepping on the gas from a stop, the cabinet ransmission jerks into gears."

Jeanette M., PA (2014 Ford Focus)

"The ride is very smooth. Wish there was a bit more legroom in the front seats, especially since moving those seats back means squishing the backseat riders."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"not very comfortable on a long trip."

Bruce M., NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"Bucket seats appeal to most people and are very comfortable"

Amanda M., MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"Seats are not as comfortable as the rav4"

Stewart C., VA (2014 Ford Focus)

"The car is OK for running around but not comfortable for any longer trips. I feel something hard in the seat, like there isn't enough padding. The lumbar support is wrong no matter how I adjust it. As with any small car, you can feel every little irregularity in the road. I think part of the problem is the choice Ford made by putting the thin sporty tires on the care. The reduction in sidewall shock absorption seems to add to the standard small-car suspension limitations. It is a bit noisy wit"

GARY P., TX (2014 Ford Focus)

"Very uncomfortable seats, lots of road noise."

MARTIN G., FL (2014 Ford Focus)

"It is a compact car, small, I usually drive a F150 Super Crew so the Focus does present problems as far as leg room in the rear seat. Bought it for road trips to Florida because of fuel economy. That is why I love the Focus and the fact it drives like a sports car. 0 to 60 in less than 10 seconds. Depends on how quickly you want to get to 60mph"

Anonymous, OH (2014 Ford Focus)

"The Focus is among the best-riding cars for this class and is MUCH quieter than a Civic or Corolla."

Anonymous, IL (2014 Ford Focus)

"The seats are comfortable, but the driver's seat is too low, even at it's highest setting. I am 5'2" short. This is the only factor that would keep me from purchasing this car again. The driver's seat on my 2003 Focus could be raised higher, thus I could see much better, especially to park."

Anonymous, WA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Seat are comfortable, visibility is good and noise level is good"

Anonymous, NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"Very satisfied with the responsive handling although ride can be jiggly over bumps. An absolute BLAST to drive in the snow with the traction control turned off."

CHARLES P., IL (2014 Ford Focus)

"The Focus has great front seat room / leg room. Back seat can be a little tight but is OK. Because this an EV, cargo area is slim due to the battery. It is a VERY quiet car due to the EV. Climate control is excellent and very easy to use. The system quickly cools or heats the car as needed."

BRONSON B., GA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Plenty of road noise, sluggish and rough at idle."

Anonymous, PA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Love it! Just wish automatic clutch system worked better."

MARK F., NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"center console is awkward if there are drinks in the cupholders when trying to shift; driving position is somewhat awkward and turning radius is horrible"

Anonymous, MN (2014 Ford Focus)

"I find that my bursitis in my right knee flares up and carpal tunnel syndrome in my left hand acts up. It becomes uncomfortable to drive any distance."

JAKE V., BC (2014 Ford Focus)

"The left dashboard on the driver's side always gets in my way when I get in and out of the car- poor design."

Anonymous, NM (2014 Ford Focus)

"It's a little noisy on the highway. The seats are comfortable enough and climate control is good."

LORETTA G., NH (2014 Ford Focus)

"The Recaro seats are the best! Many publications, including CR, discourage the purchase of trim levels that include the Recaros."

WILLIAM R., NJ (2014 Ford Focus)

"Car has had transmission issues."

Anonymous, CO (2014 Ford Focus)

"ok for price"

Anonymous, OH (2014 Ford Focus)

"Handles excellent, stops now when told to and accelerates well, trans. makes it quick for a four cyl."

Larry E., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Very nice transaction. Picked car from on line dealer inventory. Salesman honored price from phone conversation. Do not care for the extra warranty sales pitch. Great car for under 20k"

William B., MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"If the transmission was even average, I would have considered this vehicle to be a good value. Unfortunately, the transmission is horrible."

Robert O., NV (2014 Ford Focus)

"I've got the ST model. Its fast, handles great, and works very well as a daily driver."

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Ford Focus)

"I was able to use the insider discount awarded to Costco members which gave me the incentive to purchase the vehicle through the dealership."

June S., WA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Comparable driving experience to more expensive sports cars. Great mileage, even cruising at 80 mph. Manual transmission, which is more and more rare. Lots of room to haul stuff when necessary."

Daniel H., MS (2014 Ford Focus)

"I got a new car with automatic transmission, power (tinted) windows, electric door locks, tilt wheel, blue tooth, pin striped, and such that gets over 40 MPG on the highway and does not kill you with discomfort on a thousand mile road trip, for $16,000,00 out the door. There are no negatives."

Doug T., TX (2014 Ford Focus)

"Excellent, the car has been flawless. I am meticulous about the maintanance,. The car drives well, looks go and has few problems"

Anonymous, MD (2014 Ford Focus)

"Good fuel mileage , nice ride , solid build quality . Door closes like a German upscale car"

Anonymous, PA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Fords Lack to stand behind the transmission failure and dealerships unwillingness to help. The dealership suggest getting an attorney"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Don’t know how easy it will be to sell with a faulty transmission"

Jeff S., IL (2014 Ford Focus)

"I think it is hard to beat for the combination of good mileage, reliability, and ride, at a reasonable price."

Thomas H., IN (2014 Ford Focus)

"Mileage is what I expected Only negative is gas rank is small!"

Joanne L., FL (2014 Ford Focus)

"Excellent price and rebate availability for the feature on the vehicle"

Steve L., AL (2014 Ford Focus)

"Good"

Anonymous, QC (2014 Ford Focus)

"Leased at a low monthly payment with $0 down. We charge it at work very often for free. Otherwise, it's charged at home on the 120V charger included with the car. It uses very little electricity. No oil or filter changes required."

Albert S., NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"great energy efficiency, good styling, less expensive than comparative gas version,"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"This year's Focus has widespread problems with the drive train and more specifically the clutch on automatic transmissions. I've had to replace the clutch assembly twice."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Ford Focus)

"With dealer incentives the car was 5000 below MSRP."

Dale K., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Initially, the purchase price was about 75% of the list. The cost of operation is low, and highway gas mileage is 38=40 MPG"

STEVE L., AL (2014 Ford Focus)

"Great value for the car did have clutch problem but covered under warranty"

WILLIAM W., VA (2014 Ford Focus)

"Car is enjoyable to drive. It handles very well. Gets great highway mileage, better than stated. Too bad the manual transmission is not a 6 gear. Back seat leg room could be more but I never sit there."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"I got great manufacturer incentives which totaled 3k off sticker price of $20,000. However they try to get you to take their more expensive loan through Ford credit. Don't do it. You can get a cheaper rate at your credit union or bank. One of their incentives was tied to taking the car loan from Ford credit. I did then immediately paid it off with my credit union loan."

LORETTA G., NH (2014 Ford Focus)

"I think I got a good deal with several discounts Ford offered and because I worked for State Farm Ins"

Anonymous, IL (2014 Ford Focus)

"Our vehicle was featured in an ad to get folks into the dealership and after various incentive offers, we paid under $14000 for it! It is one of the few vehicles with automatic transmission that we can tow behind our RV, which is why we bought it."

JOHN H., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"We went into this lease with rather low expectations, it being a low-content car, so we basically got what we asked for. THr one exception is the Bluetooth connectivity that was a little more than we expected at the price. Ours has the SFE option which is supposed to boost highmay mpg to 40, which we never saw."

RICHARD S., CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"excellent mileage. car was less expensive than gas powered focus and it came fully loaded."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"I believe I got a very good value on a very low mileage used car with every thing I was looking for and even some things I really don't need."

CHARLES H., OH (2014 Ford Focus)

"Unsatisfied with fuel economy and some rattling noises, other than that it's a good car"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"I overpaid for the Focus, which is no one's fault but my own. Haven't purchased a car from a car lot in a long time & it showed. The Focus does hold it's value as well as the Nissan has."

Anonymous, OR (2014 Ford Focus)

"The value is great! For a few thousand dollars more than I paid for my 2001 Focus, I am getting over 10 MPG more, plus it is a LOT more comfortable to drive, especially on long trips! Excellent value!"

DOUGLAS B., AZ (2014 Ford Focus)

"We couldn't find a competitive vehicle with comparable options similarly priced. Outstanding value."

KENNETH S., TX (2014 Ford Focus)

"This car has held good value, I will soon trade it in on a 2016 model. This is a Focus ST"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Focus)

"I got a fully equipped, fast, good-handling, economical car for under $27K (after discounts). Ford has come a long way in the past 10 years, and they're now providing excellent cars at a good price."

THOMAS K., MD (2014 Ford Focus)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"It is nice looking, but nothing special. Not unique"

LEN F., IN (2014 Ford Focus)

"Love the hatchback styling. Lots of cargo room and the ability to fold the rear seats completely flat if needed (like a big trip to Costco)."

MICHAEL S., FL (2014 Ford Focus)

"I like the way the car looks -- it's cute, sort of like a duckling with its head bent forward and its tail feathers sticking up in the air. However, the valance on which the front bumper sits is just a tad too low -- scrapes too easily on curbs, etc. I've had the car in twice to reinstall or replace the valance."

KATHLEEN B., CT (2014 Ford Focus)

"Bought this car for my wife's primary use. Didn't expect people to turn heads or inquire on it; after all it is a Ford Focus. Surprisingly, many people have complimented us on the car and I must admit, it looks very sporty with the oversized tire/wheel combination and Titanium package."

KENNETH S., TX (2014 Ford Focus)

"It is sporty looking and a beautiful (cherry red) color."

JOANNE T., WI (2014 Ford Focus)

"love it. A little smaller inside than my 2011 civic"

MARK F., NY (2014 Ford Focus)

"Rear windows are too small, hard to see out back. Front grill is big and monotonous."

GORDON C., OK (2014 Ford Focus)
