What Owners Say
"Lots of vibration and hesitation on when accelerating"
Anonymous, OH (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Even when brand new, 6-speed automatic transmission shifted smoothly only when gently accelerating. With full- or close to full-throttle acceleration, some shuddering at up-shift points; shifting worse when car not fully warmed up. Apparently transmission controls were not smoothly transmitting power from one gear clutch to the next higher gear clutch. Ford dealer investigated when I had car in for other service at 55,000 miles and replaced a clutch pack and a transmission seal under warranty. The oil leak was minor (I wasn't aware of it)."
Anonymous, FL (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"2 clutch system. Needed adjustment. A few miles later back to same problem. Starting off from a stop....car vibrates due to clutches. Ford recalled. Ford knows about focus problem."
Anonymous, MN (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"The engine would bog down because the transmission wouldn't shift down at the right time, and also much of the time the shifts upward were hard and noisy. The software was updated once, there was no improvement, when we took it in to th e dealer the second time, they replaced the clutches and the car has been fine since then, that is, for the last 5800 miles."
Stephen G., VT (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"From 1st to 2nd gear the car shudders"
Tony W., MO (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"It was a recall issue that was present at the purchase, but the dealership did not reveal it and precertified the vehicle."
Anonymous, TX (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"When accelerating from a complete stop the vehicle has a tough time shifting and has a loss of power."
Kenny M., CO (2015 Ford Focus)"I used to have a 2012 Ford Focus that had shifted roughly and slipped. I traded it for a new 2015 after several service visits. The 2015 ran fine for a year but soon began doing the same thing. Bad decision on my part. I would not recommend this vehicle."
Anonymous, NC (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Ford took care of it."
Anonymous, TX (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Car shakes roughly when shifting, sounds like there is something tumbling inside of transmission"

Anonymous, NY (2015 Ford Focus S 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Bucks and studdders when starting to move"
Anonymous, TN (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"The transmission has been "notchy" since I leased the car. Sometimes it pops out of fourth gear if it is not very firmly shifted into that gear"
Anonymous, VA (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Not a smooth transition between gear changes, vehicle will often jerk when shifting. Here's the kicker, apparently this is a known issue for this model because the dealer can't get us into see the car until July (we made the call back in March)"
Patrick J., VA (2015 Ford Focus ST 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"hesitant shifting, shuddering, shaking when starting or re-accelerating under 40 mph"
Anonymous, AL (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Car shudders upon acceleration after stop. Usually fine once the automatic hits 2nd gear. Dealer service (and extended warranty for this problem) fixes it. And then it comes back."
Anonymous, CA (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"The dealer replaced the clutch. A second dealer reset the computer and shifting problem was gone."
Anonymous, (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"This is the 2nd focus I have owned with a lemon transmission. Both purchased from the Sam's dealership. The first, a 2012 focus, got the transmission replaced at 75000 miles by the dealer. I traded it in on my current one because they said they'd fixed the problem. They didnt and I've gone thru the class action lawsuit all the way to having fomoco calling me to tell me they wont help me because I haven't taken the car in for repairs. My reasoning is I am afraid they will do the same thing to me with another car. The class action lawyers will not help me and the local lawyers wont take it either. My 2015 focus has a mind of it's own when it wants to act up. I have driven it sparingly to work and on very short trips gingerly everywhere I go. I am at my waits end and would love to stay a ford and american car buyer but subaru is calling loudly. Any help u can offer would be appreciated. Thank you, Bruce Wood."

Albert F., VA (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Occasionally when on Cruise Control going up a steep hill, at the top of the hill, the transmission stays in the lower gear too long on the way down. Have to turn off Cruise."
Anonymous, AZ (2015 Ford Focus Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Similar to the computer issues I previously described, the transmission does not transition smoothly through the gears....STUTTERS."
Anonymous, CA (2015 Ford Focus)"Seemed like clutch was not grabbing when transmission shifted"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Ford Focus Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Transmission studders in lower gear range, especially in hot weather."
Gary M., NY (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"I was on the turnpike at night and a message flashed to turn the car off because the engine was overheated. I ended up waiting about 10 minutes before I could resume driving. I have already replaced the TCM in my car. Now, it is back, again, to making noises, difficulty resuming driving after stopping at lights and inconsistencies in steering. There was another recall this past year regarding the transmission and Ford stating that the warranty will be extended. I have complained about the inconsistency in resuming driving after stopping and the noises while the car resumes. Of course, when they test it, they don’t see these problems. I take it back to the dealership because of the extended warranty. My main concern is my safety when driving, especially at night. My car has such a low mileage because I hate driving it. I have driven Ford for nearly 50 years and have never experienced any problems, which is why I continued to purchase a Ford. I wrote to Ford about 2 years ago regarding the car’s poor performance and got a perfunctory statement about to continue taking it to the dealership for any issues I have. I am very sorry that I didn’t fight to have this car replaced years ago. My car is still unaligned and, of course, I’m the only one that sees it. It is my understanding that Ford has discontinued the Focus car, and I can understand why. It is a lemon!"
Carol S., PA (2015 Ford Focus)"Transmission would overheat and shut off as a safe guard for the transmission. This has happened several times and is now shifting hard and slipping. It is scheduled for it's third transmission repairs in the last year."
Christopher E., TX (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"The transmission STUTTERS between 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears whenever you go from a STOPPED position. I'm told that is the new computer and belt gears that is causing it and that it cannot be fixed... It prevents the car from accelerating smoothly or in case of needing to accelerating quickly to get across traffic, prevents a safe transition. VERY ANNOYING, and UNSAFE."
Anonymous, CA (2015 Ford Focus)"The TCM was reprogrammed but did not solve the problem. Service department has indicated that they can do nothing else unless engine light indicates a problem. Ford has extended the warranty on the transmission"
Anonymous, FL (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"I had a letter from Ford about the T.C.M. regarding the transmission slipping and multiple operations systems failers such as starting and charging systems failures. After the transmission was repaired the transmission control module intermittently wouldn't allow the car to start. The battery wasn't charging. Leaving us stranded more than once. At no time was a battery warning light shown and the and the electric power steering shut down. After the battery and alternator was replaced we still had problems. Dealer couldn't find the problem until I told them about a tsb I received stating potential causes but the t.c.m. After the T.C.M. we have only had one episode of a technological glitch which hasn't occurred since."
Anonymous, CA (2015 Ford Focus Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"wil not shift or down shifts dealer reflashs computer"
Anonymous, IA (2015 Ford Focus S 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"I complained to the dealer since I purchased the car, about improper shifting they assured me that that was within normal parameters. I had the car in for an oil change and they said my transmission required attention. They replaced the two clutches and replaced the computer. The Focus operates very well better than when I purchased it. It operates now as a good gear transmission should."
Norm H., ON (2015 Ford Focus SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Shifting from purchase date was jerky not smooth. Took Ford over a year to realize problem was common and to get new parts designed, manufactured, issue recall, and install new part."
Anonymous, OR (2015 Ford Focus Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
