The Ford Fusion is agile and satisfying to drive, with a sporty feel. Its V6 engine and automatic transmission make for a smooth and responsive powertrain, the four-cylinder option is a bit coarse however. Additionally, Fusion's interior is well made and space is generous.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“It came with the performance package and the handling is like it was on rails. It goes where you point it. The brakes are Brembo double piston calipers, and they really stop if you have to suddenly. The only downside is the low profile performance tires, as in town on potholes and large concrete cracks and joints, it rides rougher than the standard fusion. It is fun to drive in mountains and on long trips.”

JACK B., NE (2009 Ford Fusion)

“Extreme blind spots when backing up. Difficulty with all mirrors, especially the rear view.”

WILSON H., CA (2009 Ford Fusion)

“Very balky on hills Otherwise a wonderful car.”

Anonymous, CT (2009 Ford Fusion)

“The acceleration of 6 cylinders is great. The ride is very comfortable. We do not have any negatives with this vehicle.”

HUBERT W., VA (2009 Ford Fusion)

“The acceleration and handling is superb for this type of car (family sedan). Drives like a more expensive sports vehicle which makes it enjoyable for highway driving. Steering is quick and easy with minimal "play" on the wheels.”

SALLY H., FL (2009 Ford Fusion)

“I have the 6 cylinder model and the power and handling is some of the best I've experienced in this size vehicle. Passing other cars is a breeze and bumps are minimally felt if at all. I am extremely satisfied with this car.”

THOMAS S., MI (2009 Ford Fusion)

“Noisy acceleration, but great when up to speed”

Anonymous, MN (2009 Ford Fusion)

“This was the best driving car that I ever had. Until the ETB gave out on the highway at 100 kpm. Scary!”

JIM S., ON (2009 Ford Fusion)

“BAD: acceleration, power, noise”

IRWIN K., CO (2009 Ford Fusion)

“The 6 cylinder engine is noisy on acceleration.”

EDWARD G., CA (2009 Ford Fusion)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Seating feels solid and is very comfortable.”

Anonymous, IL (2009 Ford Fusion)

“Leather seats and warmers, climate control, sync, mood lights.”

Anonymous, CT (2009 Ford Fusion)

“It displays the best, most reliable and quick responding heating/cooling system of any vehicle I have ever owned.”

JOHN Q., GA (2009 Ford Fusion)

“After having test driven several other makes of sedans, the first time I sat in the driver's seat of the 2009 Fusion I was immediately impressed with the comfort, support, and roominess compared to the other midsize cars I tried.”

JONATHAN F., MD (2009 Ford Fusion)

“The head rests jut forward into your head, making it so the seat has to be in a reclined position. That is uncomfortable, I don't want to lie down in my car. They should have adjustable head rests.”

Anonymous, IL (2009 Ford Fusion)

“Comfortable seats. Good on the road.”

EUDELIA R., TX (2009 Ford Fusion)

“Seats very uncomfortable for passenger. Also the climate control has been a problem since we bought it. Air routing is goofed up and not fast at cooling or heating. Very frustrating and dealer can't seem to fix this”

CAROL P., IN (2009 Ford Fusion)

“Bluetooth hard to work.”

Anonymous, MI (2009 Ford Fusion)

“the front seat headrests are in the way of my vision when backing up”

Anonymous, NJ (2009 Ford Fusion)

“It is still as quiet as when it was new.”

SANDRA B., FL (2009 Ford Fusion)

“Driver seat control quit working. Ford dealer wants $700 to fix. Air conditioner has a bad part in the dash that they have known about for several years but will not change. Cost of repair $600 to $700 to replace a $50 part. Finally got a recall notice on the airbags, a deadly problem that Ford and Takata have known about for years. Ford's solution. Don't call us we'll fix this deathtrap when we feel like it. Meanwhile drive this grenade at your own risk.”

CHARLES B., LA (2009 Ford Fusion)

“its a very good family car, easy on gas (31 to 35 mpg) in the summer and (25 to 29mpg)in the winter. never had any problems with the car. the only thing i don't like is it picks up speed on cruise control going down a long hill.”

GENE N., PA (2009 Ford Fusion)

“well built chassis w/ excellent sound system but best value for investment -has 206,000+ miles and still going strong”

DAN J., SC (2009 Ford Fusion)

“I got a super good deal when I bought it. I bought it toward the end of January 2009. It only had 8000 miles. It was the SEL model and had all of the options. I only paid $15,500 for it. I haven't put a dime into it except maintenance costs.”
