0 to 60 mph (sec.) 0 to 60 mph (sec.) The time in seconds that a vehicle takes to reach 60 mph from a standstill with the engine idling.
Transmission Transmission Transmission performance is determined by shifting smoothness, response, shifter action, and clutch actuation for manual transmissions.
Fuel Economy Fuel Economy We perform our own fuel-economy tests, independent of the government's often-quoted EPA figures and the manufacturers' claims. Using a precise fuel-flow measuring device spliced into the fuel line, we run two separate circuits to represent city and highway consumption.
CR's Overall Mileage CR's Overall Mileage CR's overall mileage is a composite of measured fuel usage on a prescribed city course and highway cruising; and CR's 150-mile test trip of mixed driving, if tested. In recent road tests, we've discontinued the 150-mile trip test.

Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2012 Ford Fusion owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

“It stopped working”

Marilyn G., FL (2012 Ford Fusion Unsure Unsure)

“compressor started making whining problems. Took it in to the dealer and had compressor replaced. Next day the compressor made noise again. They replaced the compressor again. Then again the next day it also failed to produce cool air. Thjey replaced compressor again and then found that the evaporator had considerable moisture in it,so the evaporator was replaced along with the compressor and since then it has worked normally”

Jack H., NE (2012 Ford Fusion SE 3.0-L V6)

“A/C would be working fine, but then start blowing hot air. It was a known problem by Ford, and it took four months to finally get the part needed to repair the problem. It was an intermittent problem which unfortunately occured during the summer”

Hal S., FL (2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

“Cold air would cut out”

Anonymous, ON (2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

“A/C blowing hot air”

C G., AZ (2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

“There is a part that has a history of feeling in the Ford fusion. It makes the heater go full blast and negates the use of the air-conditioner. If you use the air conditioner only the hottest of air will come out. This is about $1000 fix which has been going on long before your report on the 2012 fusion”

Anonymous, CA (2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

“sensor failure causes AC to blow hot intermitantly without warning. Repair is expensive due to location (remove dash!). Local dealer unwilling to fix and stalled until 12K warranty expired. Bad feelings, will not buy another ford car (I like the tr”

Carl Y., GA (2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

“Hot air blowing out the dashboard vents when the system is not turned on”

Peter S., AZ (2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

“A/C would switch to heat by itself”

Bruce N., MA (2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

“vent system has a gargling water sound combined with a clicking fan noise. Dealer was aware of it and provided a fix. Fix made the issue worse and needs to return to the dealer again”

Jason O., AB (2012 Ford Fusion SEL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
Blower (fan) motor

“The blower fan motor makes a constant squeeling sound. I have purchased an OEM replacement and the replacement does the same exact thing. I guess there is no option to fix this very annoying issue”

Corbin L., CT (2012 Ford Fusion SEL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

“I had the motor replaced once already, under warranty. At that time it make a horrible loud ticking noise and would only stop when I shut off the whole system. The replacement motor makes a low tick noise and will stop when I turn up the fan speed”

Anonymous, MO (2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

“The blower motor stopped working. When repaired, it turned out the dealer had to replace an electrical relay. The total cost was over $400, and the same repair had been done a year before”

Anonymous, WI (2012 Ford Fusion SEL 3.0-L V6)

“Replaced under warranty due to worn bearing”

Anonymous, NY (2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

“was loud was replaced under warranty”

Shawn K., OH (2012 Ford Fusion SEL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, IA (2012 Ford Fusion SEL 3.0-L V6)
Condenser

“had a hole in it”

Anonymous, GA (2012 Ford Fusion Sport 3.5-L V6)

Paul G., SC (2012 Ford Fusion Sport 3.5-L V6)
Evaporator

“evidently when the first compressor was replaced the contaminated air that was allowed to enter into the system caused the other compressors to fail since moisture had entered the system during following installations of the other compressors”
