In a class generally known for bland styling and a lack of driving excitement, the Fusion is a breath of fresh air with a stylish, fun to drive demeanor. That doesn't mean it's free of certain quirks that can erode one's enthusiasm. The Fusion looks upscale and stylish, and it handles like a really good European sports sedan.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"in a word... awesome. it performs exceedingly well"

Anonymous, IL (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Acceleration and steering"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Fairly good driving and handling. Acceleration is slower"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"It drives and handles excellent due to improvements made over the 2016 I also own. I can definitely tell a difference in the two vehicles. Mainly because of the engine, the 2.5 L versus the 1.5 L Eco-boost. The Eco-boost is far superior in performance and handling"

Thomas L., TN (2018 Ford Fusion)

"very smooth & peppy for a small engine, 1.5ltr. like the autostop feature"

Anonymous, WI (2018 Ford Fusion)

"very smooth transition from gas to electric and visa versa. Plenty of power with amazing economy."

Gary M., CA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"It is almost totally gutless in the acceleration department. Put pedal to floor and....nothing much happens."

Karl S., WA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Full electric mode and thoughtfulness of the various automated systems and their responsiveness"

Anonymous, WA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Acceleration is much better than I expected from a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine, and is plenty for this type of car. Car handles very well for a sedan."

Anonymous, NC (2018 Ford Fusion)

"The steering is very good and maneuvering the car around is fun."

Anonymous, AZ (2018 Ford Fusion)

"mileage; 45 is average, but I get 50 or more mpg frequently depending on weather and road conditions"

Anonymous, OH (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Good acceleration, can easily follow the traffic on highways. No difficulty on small roads. I don't try to use it as a sport car !"

Anonymous, QC (2018 Ford Fusion)

"very slow acceleration. Ride and handling are not good in this model"

David A., NY (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Great acceleration"

Miriam C., NM (2018 Ford Fusion)

"The Fusion is a plug hybrid, I get 22 miles on electric. It is cool, completely silent and smooth. I LOVE the 100% electric mode. I average 110 MPG gas+electric and I only fill up once every 3 weeks. The handling is on par with better sports cars. On the down side, the overall 0 to 60 performance is mediocre because the car tries to stay in electric mode and not use the gas engine. There is a 2 second lag when you stomp on the gas hard waiting for the gas motor to start."

Richard R., NY (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Vehicle has a nice ride and acceleration and handling is good. Turn radius is good and it handles nicely on curvy roads, etc. There is little lag for the turbo to kick in when you punch it but you get used to that quickly."

Anonymous, MD (2018 Ford Fusion)

"very pleased with the responsiveness of the Fusion. Acceleration from stoplights and on-ramps is smooth and quiet. Braking quick and smooth (granted, it's a new car, new tires, new brakes, but coming to a quick stop was easily done)."

Jay H., DE (2018 Ford Fusion)

"SMALL ENGINE STILL HAS GOOD POWER TO PASS!"

Kevin R., SC (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Stable ride responsive steering"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Good acceleration, especially when the ECOBOOST system kicks in; Smooth driving"

Steven G., MI (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Good acceleration & throttle response. Good handling & decent ride."

Anonymous, MI (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Have had Fusion Energi SE for 9 months and still have a little over half a tank of gas that came in the car originally. The electric motor is responsive for my short trips and amazingly quiet to drive. The vehicle is very comfortable to drive and handles well. Charging from a regular electric outlet in garage is convenient. Using Ford app to start and warm up vehicle in the winter remotely is great."

William W., GA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Very responsive! Steering and braking are excellent. Acceleration with the Eco-boost is surprisingly good (love the included Sports/paddle-shift as an extra perk)."

John C., IL (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Quite fast with the Eco boost. The car is efficient and gets good mileage and peppiness for having a I-4"

Graham A., MI (2018 Ford Fusion)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Seats are very comfortable and very adjustable. Car is very quiet inside. Ride is somewhat stiff, but it makes for a better handling car and is more fun to drive because you can fell the road better than in many sedans."

Anonymous, NC (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Seats are very comfortable. The controls on the side of the seat bottom are easy to use and make the seat very adjustable. In winter the heated seats work very well."

Anonymous, MI (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Comfortable and quiet. Easy to get in and out of"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Elderly passengers find this car like many others a bit hard to get up out of the seats. The seats in the C-MAX this replaced were noticeably higher as the car sat higher. The seniors found those seats much better when used by someone with reduced mobility."

Anonymous, VA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Very comfortable seats, very little road noise, rides very well"

Anonymous, ME (2018 Ford Fusion)

"The fusion is a low cost solution to transportation. The noise and ride are not something I would want to repeat. It is an annoying car to drive. Harsh is the word I would use to describe it"

David A., NY (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Seats have premium leather with heating and cooling and are very comfortable. Very smooth and quiet ride."

Anonymous, AL (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Very quiet, seats are comfortable"

Anonymous, GA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Seating is very comfortable to ride in, includes heated and cooled functions"

Anonymous, MI (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Excellent love the ride"

Anonymous, CO (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Same as vehicle one."

William G., MA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Driver's seat is initially tolerable but on a longer drive (30 minutes or more) it becomes excruciatingly uncomfortable. I have had to buy cushions to be able to tolerate longer drives."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"very confortables (ventilated). Memory ( 2 drivers ) A lot of space for each passenger. No intrusive noise. Confortable ride even on bad roads."

Anonymous, QC (2018 Ford Fusion)

"This vehicle is really comfortable compared to my previous Camry. I drive many miles and really appreciate comfortable seats."

Roxann G., CA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Wisper quiet"

Mark W., PA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Power Driver and Passenger seats are the most comfortable I have ever had.Very quiet and the smooth ride some times makes me forget how fast I am going."

William G., MA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Rides and drives extremely well fr a compact. Road and wind noise are minimal, and the seats provide comfort to my 6 foot frame and my wife's 5 foot frame."

Gary M., CA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"This car is quiet inside, almost eerily so. It has active noise cancellation which I assume is the reason, but the solid construction has to also be a reason."

Richard K., CA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Very comfortable seating, low road noise levels and a nice ride for the price. A good value."

Lee J., MI (2018 Ford Fusion)

"3 TIMES BETTER THAN A FOCUS."

Kevin R., SC (2018 Ford Fusion)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Good gas mileage."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"A great car for the money. It does everything well for the price which makes it a good value. Too bad it is going to be discontinued."

Lee J., MI (2018 Ford Fusion)

"This survey has a limit on data entry of 200 MPG. This car is a plugin hybrid. If you are going to collect this data for this type of car, the survey is broken. Across the life if this car (now about 6 months and 1,450 miles. It reports 634.5 MPG, and is just past its second gallon of gas. With plugin hybrids, the driving pattern matters a lot. The bulk of my trips are less than 30 miles round trip. I do drive carefully to extend the range, and charge each time I return home. Thus, the 634 MPG is accurate and an example of what can be done if the car matches the usage pattern. With a longer round trip distance I would need something like a Volt with a larger batter to do the same thing. When the time comes for a long trip to the beach, the 600+ mile gas range is nice as well, but it will knock down my average. The two previous cars got 180-200 MPG lifetime with the long trips done."

Anonymous, VA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"The Fusion is a good value and provides a good size trunk, good gas mileage and a nice ride."

Anonymous, MD (2018 Ford Fusion)

"I have the SE trim package with some very specific options (blind spot, lane departure) with the 2.5 liter engine. Ford gives great value for the price. Not as stylish as the a Sonata but overall better value"

Anonymous, IN (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Great Value"

Anonymous, NC (2018 Ford Fusion)

"The best car for the money. This car has been a staple of American drivers for years now and it is the best model yet!"

Graham A., MI (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Several to choose from, chose the one with features wanted. Not as fancy as the Fusion Hybrid I owned, but very comfortable, has a sun roof and heated seats, but no nav and no driver warning system- both of which are driving distractions. Classy but simple. Price was $9k under msrp."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Same as vehicle one."

William G., MA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"gas mileage; ride/handling"

Anonymous, OH (2018 Ford Fusion)

"PHEV rebates"

Anonymous, PA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"many standard features standard electronics package with Sync3 covers a lot good value for the money"

Anonymous, VA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"I paid only a few thousand dollars more for my Platinum Fusion Hybrid than I did for my 2010 Fusion Hybrid. The amount of technology, luxury and safety features is astounding at this price point. I was considering an Audi A4 instead of the Ford and chose the Ford."

Richard K., CA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"For the price, there is no other car that offers the features and comfort."

William G., MA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"The latest technology available at a reasonable price."

Thomas L., TN (2018 Ford Fusion)

"I was amazed at the available NYS and Federal tax rebates available for the plug in hybrid. With these rebates, I get excellent gas mileage and paid aboit the same as I would have if i bought the gas engine model. I also got good Ford discounts."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Ford Fusion)

"The Energi SE came standard with everything I wanted. Leather seating, dual climate control, automatic headlamps, etc. at an amazing price that was enhanced with government EV credit."

William W., GA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"The Ford Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid is able to exceed its predicted 19 EV miles once you learn how to drive to your best advantage. I regularly exceed 20 EV miles (up to 26) and average 49 MPG while always utilizing California's HOV lanes. With luxury comfort and a smooth, quiet ride ride in a sharp sporty looking body, and a SYNCH-3 system that provides easy navigation and excellent sound quality and options, this is an outstanding value."

John D., CA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Three days after I bought my Fusion, Ford announced it will cease making sedans. I keep my cars a minimum of 10 years, so I am very upset that I am now stuck with a vehicle that won't be maintainable in the future."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Ford was offering $9000 reduction of the MSRP towards a lease. This resulted in a lease based on a $32000 price with all options included."

Robert T., OR (2018 Ford Fusion)

"The Fusion Hybrid is comfortable and has excellent ride and handling. The SYNC system is intuitive and easy to use. The trunk space is limited because of the battery, but there is still plenty of space to carry cargo."

Anonymous, MI (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Good styling nice ride good gas mileage"

Dale W., MI (2018 Ford Fusion)

"I paid just over $25,000 and believe that I really got a great deal for my money. I bought a Camry Hybrid brand new and owned it for 12 years. I think the Ford Fusion Hybrid is a better buy and was $10,000 less at the time I purchased the car. I am very happy. I get better gas mileage now as well. The only problem that I have had so far is that it is difficult to pump fuel in extremely hot weather. I have to wait until the temperature goes down to 95 degrees or the gas pump shuts off every few seconds. The dealer believes it has to do with the shape of the gas tank filler causing it to vapor lock in the hot weather. This could be a major inconvenience for someone planning a big trip in the summer time. Plan on getting gas in the morning during hot weather months which is really best anyway."

Roxann G., CA (2018 Ford Fusion)

"Very good performance (Fusion Sport). Not inexpensive, however, very good performance."
