This rather primitive rear driver continues to command a loyal following. The base model's 3.8-liter V6 generates more noise than power. The 4.6-liter V8s are much stronger and more in character with the car. Unfortunately, only the top-of-the-line SVT Cobra version gets an independent rear suspension. The manual transmission is balky, and the clutch feels heavy. The front seats aren't especially comfortable, and neither one scoots forward to allow for easy access to the rear. The SVT Cobra packs a supercharged, 390-hp engine and a six-speed manual transmission.
