Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. Road Test

An acknowledged icon among American sports cars, the Mustang continues to generate a lot of buzz among the media and enthusiasts. Our tests show this version of the Mustang is a major upgrade over the previous model in terms of style, comfort, and performance. With this redesign, Ford reached into the vehicle's early history for styling influences, as the interior and exterior are reminiscent of early Mustangs.

We tested a GT coupe with a 300-hp, 4.6-liter V8 and a five-speed manual transmission. The base model has a 210-hp, 4.0-liter V6 with a five-speed manual or an optional five-speed automatic. Despite the use of a solid rear axle the Mustang is agile and capable, but the ride is stiff and jostling at low speeds. As is typical of many coupes, rear seating is tight and rear access is difficult. Overall, the Mustang remains true to its formula as a quick, stylish and affordable car. Side airbags are standard.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2007 Ford Mustang owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"dashboard"

Kathryn C., NJ (2007 Ford Mustang 4.0-L V6)

"When there is heavy rain water leaks into the cabin from somewhere up front under the hood. It was fixed once several years ago, but it still happens on occasion"

Ronald C., SC (2007 Ford Mustang Base 4.0-L V6)

"there is a leak on the passengers side coming down from somewhere in the engine area, trickling down past the fuses onto the floor"

Byron J., BC (2007 Ford Mustang GT 4.6-L V8)

"There is a leak between the convertible top and the rt. rear window"

Anonymous, MI (2007 Ford Mustang Base 4.0-L V6)

"Vehicle is a convertible. Top is wearing through in places. Storage well liner is cracked, allowing leak into rt. side door & rt. side floor mats. Currently replacing the top and the well liner. (Well liner no longer available. Liner being custom made by crafstsman.)"

Anonymous, MI (2007 Ford Mustang Base 4.0-L V6)

"The car developed water leaks through the dashboard passenger side. Multiple attempts to fix occurred. Created mildew problems and leather disengaging from the sides of the door due to the humidity"

Anonymous, (2007 Ford Mustang Base 4.0-L V6)

"Under the hood, at the base of the fire wall, there are 2 (left and right side) drain channels that end with some type of a rubber gasket. Unbeknownst to me, these can collect leaves, pine needles, other debris. After a heavy rain, the interior footwell on the passengers side was TOTALLY soaked. After googling this problem, I found out that this is pretty common and you need to periodically check it to be sure it is not clogged!!! So now I clean the gutters on my house and these drain channels on the Mustang. REALLY????!!!! This is the best design you could come up with??!!"

Anonymous, (2007 Ford Mustang Base 4.0-L V6)

"Just wind noise on interstate"

Beth M., IN (2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 4.6-L V8)

"Being a convertible, water will on occasion leak into the cabin causing condensation on the inside of the windows"

Anonymous, CA (2007 Ford Mustang GT 4.6-L V8)
Seals and/or weather-stripping

"Car body collects rain water from roof in body cavity and takes about 5 days to drip out, on both sides of car. Had it fixed by dealer twice"

Dmytro S., DE (2007 Ford Mustang Base 4.0-L V6)

"As the car gets older, the seals and weather stripping are failing, faster than any car I have ever owned. Along some the seal is melting (?) out? I don't think it will be long before I develop leaks. Plan on pricing repairs"

David J., CA (2007 Ford Mustang Base 4.0-L V6)

"When it rains, water comes in on the passenger floor from the windshield"

Anonymous, FL (2007 Ford Mustang Base 4.0-L V6)

Anonymous, SC (2007 Ford Mustang Base 4.0-L V6)

"Door panel cover comes loose - adhesive does not last long. Poorly designed as it does not fully wrap around the actual panel. Easy fix, though, with aftermarket adhesives"

Anonymous, CA (2007 Ford Mustang GT 4.6-L V8)

"The dealer discovered some kind of steering arm came loose. It was covered under extended warrantee but we had to pay for the realignment"

Anonymous, VA (2007 Ford Mustang GT 4.6-L V8)

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, clutch replacement.

What Owners Say

Clutch replacement

Roger B., OR (2007 Ford Mustang GT 4.6-L V8)
