The Mustang GT does more than go fast in a straight line. Agile handling and good brakes, a tolerable ride and comfortable seats, easy access and a good view out all contribute to a satisfyingly enjoyable drive. It doesn't hurt that the V8 is a hell-raiser that sounds great and the six-speed manual has short throws and an easy shift action.

"Paint blister on hood"

Neal T., FL (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

"2 quarter sized holes opened up on my hood. Due to aluminum hood being formed with steel rollers at the factory. Surface prep inadequate, steel deposits formed bubbles underneath paint, and eventually broke through. Clear coat on rear truck decklid faded off vehicle, creating a matte finish. Also a common issue with 2013/2014 mustangs."

Anonymous, PA (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

Anonymous, NY (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)
Rust

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

Gear selector or linkage

"Shifts harder onto second gear in cold weather"

Anonymous, NC (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

Hydraulics (clutch master or slave cylinder)

"Slave cylinder malfunctioned causing clutch pedal to stay on the floor"

Anonymous, CA (2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 5.8-L V8 supercharged)
Rough shifting

"This has been happening for a long time. I'm talking years. Since it doesn't effect the car during normal driving I delayed having it looked it. The only problem I have is when I'm shifting from 2nd to 3rd (manual transmission), and I'm trying to shift quickly at high rpm, near the redline. Most of the time the shifter will no go into gear and I have to keep trying or lower the rpm's by slowing down to get it to go into gear. This only happens under these conditions and only from 2nd to 3rd. When the technician said that to resolve the problem they would have to tear down the transmission, I told him to forget about it. It's not worth spending thousands of dollars to repair something that only causes a problem when I'm trying to maximize acceleration. The only time I'm trying to maximize acceleration is when I'm trying to do something I'm not supposed to be doing anyway."

Laurence C., VA (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)

"I have BOSS 302 and the gears will grind every once in awhile when changing gears from 1st to 2nd and it's difficult at times going in to 3rd due to the gate. it will go in to 5th or between the two. MT82 is not a good transmission Ford should recall"

Anonymous, FL (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)

"The rough shifting is what lead me to discover that the transponder was going bad. It started a couple years earlier but was not often enough to find the issue. I had the transmission fixed at a local shop and it cost me $600 and about 4 hours. The Ford dealership wanted twice that amount and said they would have my car for over a week!"

Anonymous, TX (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)
Transmission leaks

"Transmission leaked causing rough shifting. Closed system meant fluid cannot be added but entire system had to be replaced out of warranty. Very expensive. Shouldn't happen on car with so few miles."

Jeb H., VA (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

"Smell of burning transmission fluid when going uphill at high rpm"

Thomas B., CA (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)

"Trans oil pan leaking fluid. Repaired under warranty"

Larry T., ON (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)
Transmission sensor or solenoid

"This was a big issue as the 6 spd auto tranny would not sift out of first gear at random times. Turns out there was a magnetic speed sensor in the tranny that would get fouled with metal shavings (go figure- in a tranny) and malfunction periodically. This was a very expensive fix according to the Ford service dept as it required a whole new harness supposedly"

Anonymous, FL (2013 Ford Mustang 3.7-L V6)

"Transmission shifted roughly"

Karen L., CT (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

"The problem started a couple years ago. It would shift really hard or seemed to be slipping. I would shut it off and restart and the issue would be gone. Then a year ago it started slipping a lot on a short trip. I took it to Auto Zone and they ran code on it so I knew what was wrong. I took it to a well known local shop after talking to the Ford dealership. The dealership wanted $1200 and almost 2 weeks to fix my car. The local shop wanted $600 and it took about 4 hours from the time I dropped it off till I picked it back up."

Anonymous, TX (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

"Control arm bushing are very noisy but I am now out of warranty. Ford had a program to replace these under warranty if people complained but my noises didn't start until the suspension was out of warranty. Now I'm looking at a $500 repair bill"

Thomas B., CA (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)

"Left front lower control arm replaced due to noisy, squeaking bushing. Replacement arm has a heat shield to better protect bushing from exhaust heat"

Anonymous, CA (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)

"The issue was only heard when the car went slowly over bumps and it was a grinding noise above the front tires. The dealership replaced the parts and indicated that it was not a safety issue"

Anonymous, MO (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

Ivan P., FL (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)
Water pump

"water pump failed, common problem"

Loyd P., TN (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

What Owners Say

A/C compressor

"Since purchasing this Boss 302 Mustang I have replaced three compressors. The last one was three months after warranty expired and six months after last A C repair. Ford refused to fix free of charge in spite of clearly being an ongoing defect. I paid another AC mechanic to replace and hope that does the trick. I have a second car I drive every day now and have not put many miles on the car since last repair. Ford treated me very badly in spite of having bought one of their showcase cars. Will n"

Mark B., FL (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)
Automatic climate control

"Spent average $500 per year trying to keep it working after second year."

Anonymous, AR (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)
Evaporator

"The Evaporator is located inside the dash. Several refills with Leak dye were necessary to make sure it was the evaporator, because of the labor cost. The warranty would not give the go ahead unless I was liable for labor if it wasn't the evaporator."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

"This problem is hidden by the dash. My warranty would not kick in unless the lead was identified and the repair facility would not foot the bill for removing the dash to look for the leak. I had already paid for two A/C recharges so I felt fairly confident the lead was there. In the end Warranty Direct paid for the repair except for the attached Accumulator (not defective) which I paid for $130.70."

Stan P., CA (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

"Gas cap does not seal. Keeps triggering check engine light"

Anonymous, NJ (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

Anonymous, FL (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

"It has no fuel cap, but it continuously turns on the CEL on the dash and when code is pulled, it is for a gross fuel leak from faulty cap. Reset too many times to count....all after the 36k warranty and Ford says you have to purchase the complete filler assembly....which is NOT cheap."

Mark M., MO (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)
Sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor)

"Warning light came on. Took to dealer to fix."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Ford Mustang 3.7-L V6)

"mustang pony "puddle light" is an led and it came loose and fell out of it's socket on passenger rear view mirror"

Anonymous, FL (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)
Gauges

"Seems that fuel gauge was getting stuck at 1/2. Had to have mother board replaced twice. Was told to remove keys from ignition when refueling. This seems to work"

Anonymous, NJ (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)
Horn

"It just quit working, they replaced switches in steering wheel"

L P., TN (2013 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Normal routine brake wear

"It used to be that when the pads were low, the brakes would make a squeaking sound and you'd know it's time to change the pads. I never heard this squeaking sound, and it turned out that I need needed the front rotors turned and the rear rotors replaced. When I asked why I never heard the squeaking sound, which would have saved me hundreds of dollars, the technician said that cars don't do that anymore. If they don't do that, then how is the driver supposed to know when it's time to change the pads. There should be some other notification system letting the driver know it's time to change the pads. Maybe Ford the adding this sound to the pads was too costly, and instead decided to rely on physical inspection to determine if the pads need to be replaced. I have lower than average miles on this car, and I don't have to equipment or the expertise to determine if the pads are low on my own. I hardly ever bring the car in for maintenance because I don't drive the car enough to need to bring it in for routine maintenance very often. I feel Ford should do something so that the driver is notified when I critical system is about to fail, or is about to cost them a whole lot more money if they don't take care of the problem soon."

Laurence C., VA (2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)

"Front pads down to 20%, time to replace."

Lance M., OR (2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 5.8-L V8 supercharged)

Power Equipment

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, remote engine start, alarm or security system

What Owners Say

Coil

"apparently the coil packs on my 3.7l v6 were slowly failing, but there was no indication of that and it seems premature given the miles on the car"

Anonymous, FL (2013 Ford Mustang 3.7-L V6)

Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbo or supercharger, timing chain or timing belt.
