The Taurus tested out reasonably well. The car is roomy, plus it rides and handles soundly. However, even the upgrade 200-hp engine lacks real punch and isn't particularly frugal. The wagon was one of the few inexpensive seven-passenger vehicles of its time.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"It behaves very well."

George H., CA (2002 Ford Taurus)

"This Ford fizzles out over 65 mph. Under powered. Mileage stinks. Typical pathetic Ford slushamatic transmission. Handling is like driving a shopping cart with a bad wheel."

Ralph B., IL (2002 Ford Taurus)

"Drives great. No problems."

Anonymous, IN (2002 Ford Taurus)

"Good acceleration and handling. No handling problems."

THOMAS S., GA (2002 Ford Taurus)

"BY COMPLETELY FLUSHING and DUMPING THE "ENTIRE" AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID, EVERY 30 THOUSAND MILES, CAR CONTINUES TO "SHIFTS LIKE IT WAS NEW"! PLENTY OF ACCELERATION; HANDLES WELL."

NANCY W., UT (2002 Ford Taurus)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"All are good. I wish this model was still being manufactured."

Anonymous, TX (2002 Ford Taurus)

"Plenty of room in the front for my legs when I'm driving. It's actually a six-passenger car. So, no big block thing in the center of the front seat to block leg room."

Anonymous, IN (2002 Ford Taurus)

"Generally comfortable, great headroom for driver and passengers, very good legroom, second row seats very good for two adults, with third row when needed. Wind noise fairly loud."

Kathryn P., OH (2002 Ford Taurus)

"the windows are a bit loud"

Rebecca R., CA (2002 Ford Taurus)

"All leather. Good support."

Anonymous, TX (2002 Ford Taurus)

"The car is an older model now, but the low position of the seats near to the road has always been uncomfortable. The design was changed in later models which was a good move. Road noise level in the car escalated pretty quickly after purchase making conversation difficult to hear."

Anonymous, AZ (2002 Ford Taurus)

"It does have a manual lumbar support. Most vehicles during this time do not."

Anonymous, IL (2002 Ford Taurus)

"UPGRADED TO LEATHER SEATS EVEN THOUGH THE AUTO IS GARAGED ONE OF THE FRONT SEAT'S LEATHER COVERING DID SPLIT."

JOHN B., WA (2002 Ford Taurus)

"This is a very comfortable car. Plenty of room and seat adjustments are easy."

Anonymous, PA (2002 Ford Taurus)

"I LOVE THE CLIMATE CONTROL; SET THE TEMP, AND CAR MAINTAINS THAT TEMP. I LIKE THE A/C MAX FEATURE....CIRCULATES AND COOLS WHAT IS "INSIDE" THE CAR....DO NOT HAVE TO "SUCK-IN" AND COOL 100 DEGREE OUTSIDE AIR. WIFE (SHORT PERSON" LOVES THE AUTOMATIC SEAT HEIGHT, ETC."

NANCY W., UT (2002 Ford Taurus)

"The Ford Taurus has a fully electronic adjustable driver's seat, and all other seats are comfortable for full-sized adults to sit for extended periods. Passengers in the rear have the ability to receive heat through extended duct work toward the feet, as well as cool air through the center console that allows for increased comfort on warm/hot days."

JAMES M., OR (2002 Ford Taurus)

"Climate control could be better. Especially air conditioning."

Anonymous, MI (2002 Ford Taurus)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"15 years of driving."

Anonymous, TX (2002 Ford Taurus)

"poor value when at 78,000 miles had to replace front struts as one snapped and cut into tire. could have caused an accident at highway speeds. 80,000 miles rack and pinion went bad, 105000 transmission failed. poor reliability."

Jack P., PA (2002 Ford Taurus)

"I bought the Taurus used and for a very fair price. Since then (2004), I have had relatively minor problems and the overall performance has been excellent."

Anonymous, CA (2002 Ford Taurus)

"This car is 2002 and to date we've had to put $5,000 of repairs into it and it runs very well. That is an average of $350 per year, which I think is very reasonable for a sturdy car in this range."

Anonymous, CA (2002 Ford Taurus)

"I got the car from my Dad who kept it well maintained and he spent a lot of money on it so its in better shape then most 02's, but its still a Ford and lives up to its name Found On Road Dead."

RALPH B., IL (2002 Ford Taurus)

"We bought this car in cash used and feel it was an awesome buy for under 2800"

Anonymous, GA (2002 Ford Taurus)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"I still think it's the prettiest station wagon ever."

REINALDO R., TX (2002 Ford Taurus)

"This is a mid size station wagon that is no longer manufactured. I like the fact that I can carry alrge items when I need to."

H H., TX (2002 Ford Taurus)

"Liked the leather seats, which are still holding up, but am disappointed the side trim interior has detached from doors in back seat. It's an old car, so it doesn't have new features like blue-tooth."
