Ford's Taurus is a roomy and comfortable sedan. But at this point, the car was showing its age, as the design had been around since 1996. Handling isn't particularly nimble, the turning circle is wide, braking is unimpressive and while noise levels are tolerable, it was louder than some competing models.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Anonymous, NY (2004 Ford Taurus)

“This has been the most dependable car I've ever owned.”

JOSEPH G., MO (2004 Ford Taurus)

“Well, I bought it at a good price. It's my wife's car, but I drive it sometimes. It's a grocery getter. Slow to accelerate (3L V-6). Comfortable enough, but nothing special. Brakes are not great but ok. A ho--hum car. Had to put a sealer in the AC system. Seems to be working (2 yrs). But, who knows when it might go again. About 55,000 miles on it. Front end bushings went at about 40,000. Gas tank vapor sensor went to the tune of about $500 total. I'm sure the drum brakes on the rear”

CLARENCE F., MA (2004 Ford Taurus)

“Great Value - It has cost an avg. of $100.00/yr in repairs and $ 1000.00/yr. for price paid.”

Anonymous, CA (2004 Ford Taurus)

“Was obtained through family connection at remarkably low price as a car for teenaged son. Vehicle is so-so but price was sensational.”
