Ford's Taurus is a roomy and comfortable sedan. But at this point, the car was showing its age, as the design had been around since 1996. Handling isn't particularly nimble, the turning circle is wide, braking is unimpressive and while noise levels are tolerable, it was louder than some competing models.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for about 420,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2019 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

"The driver's side rocker panel rusted so badly that it fell off last year. They couldn't even put another one on it, because there was no place to bolt it to. That was all rusted as well. My mechanic told me he didn't feel it was safe to drive any more due to all the rust. He was worried that the part that holds the wheels on would break and I could be hurt. I went to a Fprd dealership to see what used cars they had to offer. I noticed severe rusting in the same places as on my 2005 Taurus, but these were newer cars and trucks.
