Ford's Taurus is a roomy and comfortable sedan. But at this point, the car was showing its age, as the design had been around since 1996. Handling isn't particularly nimble, the turning circle is wide, braking is unimpressive and while noise levels are tolerable, it was louder than some competing models.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"I like the acceleration and handling very much. For an older care it has a lot of "zip," no drag when passing or going up hills. It handles well and seems to "fit me." I'm comfortable in the car."

Anonymous, NY (2006 Ford Taurus)

"The acceleration is good. The handling is tight. The turning radius is poor."

"The accelerator pedal seems touchy. Difficult to start from a stop smoothly."

Anonymous, IN (2006 Ford Taurus)

"I have had problems with low speed acceleration, and "missing" a idle and low speeds. Problem seems to be with "master computer" have replaced it twice, one under warranty.I am watching this I would be completely satisfied except for the computer. I will say that three years ago I "dropped" using local Ford dealer as maintance source. Too expensive"

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"I bought this 2006 as the 3rd owner and the price was good. Repair was done by me or by professional mechanics so total cost is not high. Good value for the money vs other import used cars for a averaged-reliability domestic car."

Anonymous, IL (2006 Ford Taurus)

"For the money there is no better value. Shame they stopped making this particular car and changed the platform. I would actually consider buying another one of these if I came across one with low milage!"

Anonymous, WV (2006 Ford Taurus)

"We bought it because we wanted flex-fuel. E85 gives you less miles/gallon but is cheaper and supports the corn industry in the midwest."

Anonymous, IN (2006 Ford Taurus)

"Has been relatively reliable, safe care"

PAUL C., MA (2006 Ford Taurus)

"It has been very reliable and comfortable to drive."

GERALD C., PA (2006 Ford Taurus)

"Again I bought the car from Enterprise car Sales. I actually bought 2 ford Taurus cars until I bought the newer Camry. I love both cars and what makes it better is I truly believe I got the best price."

Anonymous, VA (2006 Ford Taurus)

"Car economical when I bought it and has been very economical to drive for a full size car"

MICHAEL G., AZ (2006 Ford Taurus)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"I think that the outside styling is quite appealing and that it seems to me that it ages well. The seats are comfortable especially the driver's seat with its lumbar support. The soft plastic on the dash and the two tone brown and sand coloring of the dash and seats I find pleasing. I like the relatively simple controls; I don't look forward to a new car with complex electronics and unnecessay gadgets. Because the designers can do something, it doesn't mean they should. Keep it simple!"

A M., ON (2006 Ford Taurus)
