The all-new Genesis G70 is a credible challenger to German sport sedans like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It is engaging to drive, well-equipped, and nicely finished. But it falls short on a few measurements that cause it to rank midpack among its direct competitors. From the first mile, the G70 comes across as well-tuned, with a welcomed balance of performance, ride, and handling.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2021 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2019 Genesis G70 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Display screen goes blank

"The touch screen display seems to get confused while using Apple Car Play, and will sometimes just go black for awhile. Distressing when following navigation. Resets when the ignition is turned OFF then back ON."

Anonymous, CA (2019 Genesis G70 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"CarPlay would stop sporadically. After several attempts, problem was determined to be faulty wire connecting iPhone to car."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Genesis G70 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Peeling of coating on wheels. Problem showed up on all four wheels."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Genesis G70 3.3T 3.3-L V6 turbo)

"The chrome trim was molted - for lack of a better word. I purchased the care with 170 miles on it even though it was 8 months old. It was used as a display model by the parent company"

Anonymous, (2019 Genesis G70 3.3T 3.3-L V6 turbo)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Refrigerant leaks

"I leased this car new from a dealer 55 miles away. I noticed on my drive home that the AC was not blowing cold air. I returned the car to the dealer and they found that the refrigerant was low and required an evacuation and refill. I was without the car for two days but was provided a loaner vehicle. The problem was resolved the first time."

Dennis M., WA (2019 Genesis G70 3.3T 3.3-L V6 turbo)

"I had the refrigerant leak from the time I drove my car off the lot. It was refilled shortly there after. The leak occurred again approximately two months later, and this time it was refilled with a die that would be able to see where the leak was coming from if it happened again. I have not use the air conditioner over the winter so I am not sure if the leak has occurred again."

Anonymous, WA (2019 Genesis G70 3.3T 3.3-L V6 turbo)

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Pulsation or vibration

"The standard brake pads that Genesis puts on these vehicles is not up to the task. During heavy braking, they leave uneven deposits on the rotors, resulting in vibration. It turns out that this is a common problem with these vehicles (as well as its sister vehicle, the Kia Stinger GT). Genesis' first attempt at fixing this is to turn the rotors, which is only a temporary fix. In the end, I had them replace the front rotors and I paid $400 out-of-pocket for the high performance brake pads that Genesis apparently puts on it's European models. Since doing that, about nine months ago, the brakes have been great, with no more vibration and excellent braking capability."

Anonymous, NH (2019 Genesis G70 3.3T 3.3-L V6 turbo)
Rotors

"started around 12k miles, caused the steering intense wheel shaking, dealer offer to fix rotors."

Anonymous, (2019 Genesis G70 3.3T 3.3-L V6 turbo)

Power Equipment

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, remote engine start, alarm or security system

What Owners Say

Coil

"Happened three different times with three different coils. Started while accelerating onto highway. Genesis wouldn't replace the coil until if failed. Once one failed, I had to wait until the next failed before they would replace. Car died three times in a month."

Anonymous, IN (2019 Genesis G70 3.3T 3.3-L V6 turbo)

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, leaks.

What Owners Say

Other/unsure

"Vehicle slammed on the brakes for an instant and then let go. There was no reason for it to do this. We were going about 25 mph when it happened. Dealer kept the car for a week and contacted Genesis about the issue. In the end they re-calibrated the cameras for the smart cruise control. Will have to see if it happens again."

Anonymous, CA (2019 Genesis G70 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
