Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Anonymous, NH (2011 GMC Acadia Denali 3.6-L V6)

“Apparently, the ac system feeds the front and the rear on separate lines. The rear line started to leak refrigerant at 35000 miles, affecting the autos total ac. “The bulb went out on one of my running lights”

Anonymous, TX (2011 GMC Acadia Denali 3.6-L V6)

Premature brake wear

“At 20000miles front and rear pads and rotors were replaced. 35000 later I am in the process of replacing same. From my experience, never had brake replacement in such low mileage”

Anonymous, RI (2011 GMC Acadia SLE 3.6-L V6)

“With only 34000 miles on the car, the rear brakes and roters were totally used up. The GMC dealer said that GM has cheapened the brake system and knows about the premature failure problem. I went to the GM customer service problem area and they off”

Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbo or supercharger, timing chain or timing belt.

What Owners Say

Timing belt or chain

“The timing chains had to be replaced after the Check Engine light indicated a misalignment that is caused by stretching of the timing chains. This appears to be a common problem on the Acadia. GM issued a TSB and extended the warranty to cover it on some of the earlier models, but not the 2011. It is an extremely expensive repair because the entire engine must be dropped to access the timing chains. It occurred around 70K miles which is also very premature”

P L., VA (2011 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

“Twice the check engine light popped on for a random misfire of the engine. The first time it did it, the engine was not functioning properly and dirty exhaust was emitting from the exhaust pipe. The dealer said a new timing chain was needed, but another mechanic noticed a loose solenoid. The random misfire has happened twice, but the timing chain has never happened”

Anonymous, UT (2011 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

“Known issue; timing chain stretches and they did cover the first one under warranty but had the vehicle for 14 days and did not offer a loaner. Second one did the same 2 years only with 22,000 miles and it was out of warranty”

Thomas E., ME (2011 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, antifreeze leaks, water pump, thermostat, overheating.

What Owners Say

Antifreeze leaks

“The PB from the manufacturing did not help the fix for water pump gasket leaks. They should have fixed the water pump first ,than just a temporary fix,as just adding coolant”

Anonymous, IL (2011 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)
Water pump

“The seal on the water pump shaft failed and caused a coolant leak and the water pump had to be replaced. This is another known issue on the Acadia for which a TSB was issued and the warranty extended. Again, the 2011 was not covered. This was an $800 repair”

P L., VA (2011 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

“With 38K miles the engine had to have the water pump replaced Also after the extended warranty expired the engine had problems”

Anonymous, IL (2011 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

“The dealer will not fix the water pump that has seal leaks!!”

James J., IL (2011 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

Anonymous, TX (2011 GMC Acadia SL 3.6-L V6)

“Paint on hood has paint chips”

James J., IL (2011 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)
