The Acadia has a spacious and quiet interior, with a very roomy third-row seat. Its smooth and refined 3.6-liter V6 returned 16 mpg overall in tests of the similar Chevrolet Traverse. The automatic sometimes hesitates to downshift when needed. Front- and all-wheel-drive versions are available. In our tests of the Traverse we found the ride comfortable and handling responsive. Fit and finish is very good.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“Though it is a medium sized SUV it does drive similar to a car. It doesn't feel like driving a big vehicle, and the backup sensors and camera help mitigate the truck like feel.”

Anonymous, NC (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Very fast and accelerates well”

JEFFREY C., GA (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Great handling, good accereration”

MICHAEL S., IL (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Hesitation when accelerating hard. Seems to be a common occurance.”

Anonymous, KY (2012 GMC Acadia)

“It does not give you the ride comfort that the GMC Yukon we owned previously provided.”

ROBERT P., NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Sometimes hesitates when accelerating. Turning radius not great. When turning too sharply, the car makes a clunk sound.”

Anonymous, GA (2012 GMC Acadia)

“The driving qualities are tremendous for this SUV. The engine kicks in with lots of power and the driving performance is extremely comfortable, quiet and sure footed. I did not expect this SUV to drive like a car.”

Anonymous, TX (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Engine sounds like it's in a strain when shifting through the gears. Takes more effort to turn the steering wheel than it should.”

NORMAN D., KY (2012 GMC Acadia)

“2012 Acadia seems a little sluggish when accelerating.”

Anonymous, PA (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Lots of power”

FRED D., ON (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Drives good does not get stuck good quality”

JACKIE K., WI (2012 GMC Acadia)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“A/C doesn't cool well in 90 degree plus days. Car also handles poorly in tight turn situations. Rear mirror visibility very limited.”

ROBERT P., NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Air conditioning never stays right, either too warm or too cool”

JEFFREY C., GA (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Have a large family, wife and 4 little kids, this is one of the few vehicles (non-minivan, not ready for that yet) on the market that fits four of today's huge carseats (britax). Two captain chairs in middle row is great, the bigger kids can get into back row easily and buckle themselves in without removing a car seat or popping a seat forward.”

EMERSON F., NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Very comfortable on long trips. Great amenities, ample cargo space. Exceeds expectations.”

Anonymous, WA (2012 GMC Acadia)

“There is a serious design flaw in the base of the seats (2 front, 2 rear), which causes the part of the base that covers the base to crack and fall apart. We have owned our 2012 GMC Acadia for four years and have had to have the base replaced three times and are due to have them replaced again. The GM dealerships report the problem to being the way we exit the car and/or that we are too heavy. Granted, we are not slim, trim people, but at a max of 240 pounds, I would hardly consider that too”

Anonymous, FL (2012 GMC Acadia)

“rides smooth with plenty of passenger room and luggage”

Anonymous, WI (2012 GMC Acadia)

“A/C defective 3 times”

JOE M., FL (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Seats have cool or heat when needed very comfortable on long rides”

RICHARD H., NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

“A comfortable ride for my disabled husband. The car is a quiet ride”

Anonymous, CA (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Ride is to stiff”

Anonymous, WI (2012 GMC Acadia)

“They are adjustable”

Anonymous, VA (2012 GMC Acadia)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“Downsizing from a full-sized SUV (Chevrolet Suburban), I expected to miss interior volume and performance. The Acadia delivered interior usability as good as a Tahoe, in my opinion.”

Anonymous, TX (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Rough ride, poor gas mileage, engine runs at a high rpm when shifting through the gears.”

NORMAN D., KY (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Fit and finish is lacking for amount paid.”

Anonymous, NC (2012 GMC Acadia)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“Sleek, easy to wash”

MICHAEL S., IL (2012 GMC Acadia)

“It appeals to me”

Anonymous, VA (2012 GMC Acadia)

“Styling for the Acadia is almost second to none. All seats comfortable, even the third row”

RICHARD H., NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
