The Acadia has a spacious and quiet interior, with a very roomy third-row seat. Its smooth and refined 3.6-liter V6 returned 16 mpg overall in tests of the similar Chevrolet Traverse. The automatic sometimes hesitates to downshift when needed. Front- and all-wheel-drive versions are available. In our tests of the Traverse we found the ride comfortable and handling responsive. Fit and finish is very good.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"The V6 gives strong accelration without sounding harsh. For a fairly large suv it corners confidently and is easy to park"

Richard M., NC (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Has good acceleration, handle well"

Anonymous, CO (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Though it is a medium sized SUV it does drive similar to a car. It doesn't feel like driving a big vehicle, and the backup sensors and camera help mitigate the truck like feel."

Anonymous, NC (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Very fast and accelerates well"

JEFFREY C., GA (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Great handling, good accereration"

MICHAEL S., IL (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Hesitation when accelerating hard. Seems to be a common occurance."

Anonymous, KY (2012 GMC Acadia)

"It does not give you the ride comfort that the GMC Yukon we owned previously provided."

ROBERT P., NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Sometimes hesitates when accelerating. Turning radius not great. When turning too sharply, the car makes a clunk sound."

Anonymous, GA (2012 GMC Acadia)

"The driving qualities are tremendous for this SUV. The engine kicks in with lots of power and the driving performance is extremely comfortable, quiet and sure footed. I did not expect this SUV to drive like a car."

Anonymous, TX (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Engine sounds like it's in a strain when shifting through the gears. Takes more effort to turn the steering wheel than it should."

NORMAN D., KY (2012 GMC Acadia)

"2012 Acadia seems a little sluggish when accelerating."

Anonymous, PA (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Lots of power"

FRED D., ON (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Drives good does not get stuck good quality"

JACKIE K., WI (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Still very satisfied"

Anonymous, TX (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Acceleration is adequate, especially from a stop, but the engine has to wind up more than I like to achieve that, and it is more audible than I would like. Handling is OK, but there isn't a lot of road feel, and it feels like a larger vehicle than it really is."

Keith S., IA (2012 GMC Acadia)

"I do a LOT of highway/interstate driving, which means I pass A LOT of semi-tractor-trailer-trucks! My V6 is OK in town. I really have to press my Big-As*-Red-Truck, aka BART's, gas "pedal to the metal" like mad to pass semi's. It doesn't have enough power to get the job done like my V-8 Mountaineer did. I also have owned a Ford F-250 V-10 cab/cap four door "Beast" that flew past anything & everything! So I guess I've been spoiled for anything else power-wise. Still...my Acadia Denali should be able to pass trucks better. It really strains to keep up the pressure/acceleration I ask it for. Otherwise, I LOVE MY ACADIA!"

Anonymous, FL (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Not so great."

Anonymous, NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

"This vehicle has developed a chugging or sputtering engine while climbing roads slightly up hill that car repait shops have not been able to fix. There's also a sluggishness to accelerating at times, and when the car is in park it rocks back and forth."

Anonymous, NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Superior acceleration but the vehicle is having severe problems with surging and hesitation and dealer cannot locate the problem."

Jeffrey C., GA (2012 GMC Acadia)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"very quiet and smooth engine and transmission"

Richard M., NC (2012 GMC Acadia)

"A/C doesn't cool well in 90 degree plus days. Car also handles poorly in tight turn situations. Rear mirror visibility very limited."

ROBERT P., NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Air conditioning never stays right, either too warm or too cool"

JEFFREY C., GA (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Have a large family, wife and 4 little kids, this is one of the few vehicles (non-minivan, not ready for that yet) on the market that fits four of today's huge carseats (britax). Two captain chairs in middle row is great, the bigger kids can get into back row easily and buckle themselves in without removing a car seat or popping a seat forward."

EMERSON F., NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Very comfortable on long trips. Great amenities, ample cargo space. Exceeds expectations."

Anonymous, WA (2012 GMC Acadia)

"There is a serious design flaw in the base of the seats (2 front, 2 rear), which causes the part of the base that covers the base to crack and fall apart. We have owned our 2012 GMC Acadia for four years and have had to have the base replaced three times and are due to have them replaced again. The GM dealerships report the problem to being the way we exit the car and/or that we are too heavy. Granted, we are not slim, trim people, but at a max of 240 pounds, I would hardly consider that too"

Anonymous, FL (2012 GMC Acadia)

"rides smooth with plenty of passenger room and luggage"

Anonymous, WI (2012 GMC Acadia)

"A/C defective 3 times"

JOE M., FL (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Seats have cool or heat when needed very comfortable on long rides"

RICHARD H., NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

"A comfortable ride for my disabled husband. The car is a quiet ride"

Anonymous, CA (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Ride is to stiff"

Anonymous, WI (2012 GMC Acadia)

"They are adjustable"

Anonymous, VA (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Seats are not the most comfortable."

Anonymous, CA (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Front seats are comfortable. Back seats, not so much. Drivers seat plastic interior molding has cracked and seat is starting to flatten."

Anonymous, TX (2012 GMC Acadia)

"the first car we have owned which allows my wife the read a book while I drive. She can sleep in comfort in the passenger's seat. She extensively uses the in-seat heating and cooling systems."

Ronald O., FL (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Comfortable seats, quiet and stable ride"

Walter H., IL (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Seats are great. Road noise is quite good, but engine noise during acceleration seems excessive to me. (It doesn't seem excessive to my wife.) The ride is stiff when dealing with rough road in town, but it is great on the highway."

Keith S., IA (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Front seats OK, but pre-sets not always good Back seats very good for grand children as well as 3rd row of seats"

Anonymous, MD (2012 GMC Acadia)

"The road noise transfers to the passenger compartment and is bothersome."

Anonymous, FL (2012 GMC Acadia)

"For long trips the seats are easily adjustable"

Anonymous, OK (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Very cheap seat material and the rear seat is very uncomfortable"

Jeffrey C., GA (2012 GMC Acadia)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Transmission went in my car and a friend's exact same model at 104,000 miles. Acceleration not very good. Would not buy again"

Anonymous, NY (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Heavy-duty, comfortable ride, with "decent" gas mileage."

Arlin A., IA (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Downsizing from a full-sized SUV (Chevrolet Suburban), I expected to miss interior volume and performance. The Acadia delivered interior usability as good as a Tahoe, in my opinion."

Anonymous, TX (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Rough ride, poor gas mileage, engine runs at a high rpm when shifting through the gears."

NORMAN D., KY (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Fit and finish is lacking for amount paid."

Anonymous, NC (2012 GMC Acadia)

"AWD very good mileage is poor"

Anonymous, MD (2012 GMC Acadia)

"The brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are at the same height. When I apply the brakes, I inadvertently press the accelerator pedal. This either reduces the effect of the brake or causes acceleration."

Anonymous, FL (2012 GMC Acadia)

"There is no reason for vehicles to cost what they do"

Anonymous, TX (2012 GMC Acadia)

"Has been very reliable with normal service"

Anonymous, TX (2012 GMC Acadia)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

MICHAEL S., IL (2012 GMC Acadia)

"It appeals to me"

Anonymous, VA (2012 GMC Acadia)
