The Acadia has a spacious and quiet interior, with a very roomy third-row seat. Its smooth and refined 3.6-liter V6 returned 16 mpg overall in tests of the similar Chevrolet Traverse. The automatic sometimes hesitates to downshift when needed. Front- and all-wheel-drive versions are available. In our tests of the Traverse we found the ride comfortable and handling responsive. Fit and finish is very good.

Anonymous, NY (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)
Tie rods

"Heard a clunk when we turned and they needed to be replaced. Our biggest problem was the rod that holds the fuel tank in place and the Chev Dealership Dueck on Marine Vancouver BC failed to see it because they didn't want to have to pay. Took it to an independent repair shop and they noticed it right away and said this is an old break. When we wanted to talk to dealership somehow the manager is away or maybe walked out the back door. ? Mascha F., AZ (2012 GMC Acadia Denali 3.6-L V6)

"The blower went out making both the AC (when it was even working) and the heat virtually ineffective."

Laura B., WI (2012 GMC Acadia SLE 3.6-L V6)

"The climate control blowers come and go in the front of the car constantly, and online forums reveal that this is a well known and understood design flaw on Gmc vehicles years before my 2012 model year. When the air stops moving in the heat of summer, the car is actually dangerous to drive because the temps go over 100 F very quickly! We don’t they fix it??"

"System constantly leaks refrigerant from different locations. First was the low pressure schrader valve, then leaking rear evaporator coil. GMC dealer attempted to fix the leaks twice before I took it to a competing brand dealer who was willing to troubleshoot the ac system. They found the leaks quickly and offered a repair solution. This wasn't until I already had paid over $700 to keep refilling the refrigerant after the GMC dealer "fixed" the issues"

Anonymous, CT (2012 GMC Acadia Denali 3.6-L V6)

David M., IN (2012 GMC Acadia Denali 3.6-L V6)

"The housing around the headlights melted from the heat. As search of the secondary market indicated that many other vehicles have the same problem. GM has no warranty extension on this problem and the cost of the housing around the lights was first called a dad $1800 plus labor. I was able to get the dealer to reduce the cost to $1200 plus labour which is still a non-believable charge."

George V., MB (2012 GMC Acadia Denali 3.6-L V6)

Anonymous, CA (2012 GMC Acadia Denali 3.6-L V6)

"Thank you for this opportunity to tell my melting headlight SAGA!! About one and a half years ago, or @ 77,000 miles, my right headlamp MELTED in the housing!! Took it to my local guys, who have taken care of most of my car maintenance for over 45 years. They ordered the ENTIRE HEADLIGHT UNIT, and installed it for @ $950.00. About a year ago, the left t headlamp MELTED! Same story, different side! This time I took it to my local dealership, and on the way out to the car, I passed the old right"

"Omg - the satellite radio was supposed to be this huge value-add safety feature, but it works only about 33% of the time - ha for years now. The dealership will forward you to some local car stereo shyster, start down a list of component replacements they HOPE will fix the problem, or just beg off from fixing it. Most likely, th3 issue is a corrodes antenna wire under the car trying m, but we don’t want to invest any money in this car."

Mary L., CA (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

"The Sirius/XM radio stopped working. The antenna cable for the SiriusXM radio runs under the roof. Apparently due to the heat and sun, the antenna cable dried out and cracked. The entire system had to be replaced and it was VERY expensive"

Anonymous, NV (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

"The speakers fade in and out. You turn it up so you can hear it, then it pops back in and blasts your ears. It is incredibly annoying on longer trips... it's a similar experience to having someone continually turning the volume up/down/up/down."

"loud "popping" and "static noises" come from speakers during very cold weather and last for about 10 minutes after start up"

Anonymous, TN (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

"I had the brakes replaced and the rotors needed replacing. The dealer said that you automatically do this every brake job. That they cannot be turned. This was not the case in previous cars. Have the manufacturers cheapened the calipers?"

Alan H., MI (2012 GMC Acadia SL 3.6-L V6)

Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, 4WD/AWD components, driveline vibration, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), electrical failure.

What Owners Say

4WD/AWD components

"The "Service AWD System" warning started coming on intermittently. The dealership implemented a fit sp0ecified in a GM service bulletin to resolve the issue"

Anonymous, CO (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)
Driveshaft or axle

"worn bearing in rear wheel"

Samuel W., MD (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

"At about 90,000 service, the service rep noticed grease leaking from the right front axle joint. After a full inspection, he advised that axle needed replacement. However, because it was a part of the drive train (FWD), the repair was covered under the factory warranty,"

Anonymous, NV (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)
Electrical failure

"There was a recall on the rear hatch lifting. when repaired, the battery was disconnected. This caused an actuator failure which caused the A/C to malfunction. I had to pay for the repair!"

Anonymous, FL (2012 GMC Acadia Denali 3.6-L V6)
Transfer case

"The transfer case vent is located near the cabin air intake, and has resulted in a propane-like smell in the cabin. The dealership had to modify the vent to partially resolve this problem (per GM service bulletin)"

Anonymous, CO (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, antifreeze leaks, water pump, thermostat, overheating.

What Owners Say

Overheating

"Engine overheated 3 times on vacation trip to Colorado"

Anonymous, LA (2012 GMC Acadia SL 3.6-L V6)

"Couldn't drive more than a couple miles without overheatjing. Also nhad to refill a/c coolent twice"

Anonymous, VA (2012 GMC Acadia SL 3.6-L V6)
Water pump

"Since the water pump was replaced I've had an random issue with the throttle not responding, GM is currently looking into the cause and cure.......scary in the midst of heavy traffic"

Rod C., KS (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

"The water pump failed at 60k miles (leaking coolant), seems a bit premature to me"

Anonymous, CA (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

What Owners Say

Rough shifting

"Under part throttle at moderate speeds less than 50 mph car lurches intermittently instead of maintaining smooth speed. GMC dealer ran computer diagnostics on drive train and said everything is fine. Technically, it pulled no error codes. However after doing research, we found this is a known problem, and it is unnerving to say the least, since it feels like the car is probably running out of gas and is unsettling to all passengers in the car."

Mascha F., AZ (2012 GMC Acadia Denali 3.6-L V6)
Slipping transmission

"The slip didn't happen all the time. It was small and took me a long time to realize what was happening. My dealership fixed it under warranty"

Anonymous, ON (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)
Transmission sensor or solenoid

"Three weeks after a major transmission rebuild that cost $5,000 - the car again would not drive. Dealer took it back and fixed a faulty sensor - said it was normal after rebuilding the transmission that the sensors might fail. Are you kidding me??? Pay $5k to rebuild transmission and get stranded on the side of the road 3 weeks later? They fixed the sensor for free, but we have no trust in this vehicle anymore. Transmission could fail at any minute without warning."

John S., NH (2012 GMC Acadia SLE 3.6-L V6)

Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, clutch replacement.

What Owners Say

Transmission rebuild or replacement

"transmission began getting rough, like it was stuttering when under strain around 40 and 70 mph. GMC accepted responsibility for this and rebuilt/repaired problem last month. So far it is running ok"

Anonymous, VA (2012 GMC Acadia SL 3.6-L V6)

"Transmission seemed to buck all the time while driving. Took it back to the dealer several times and they said it was normal. Finally failed completely and couldn't drive, but was out of warranty by that time and had to pay $5,000 to rebuild the transmission. Terribly frustrating - will never buy a GMC again. Ever. not just because of the faulty transmission, but also the run-around we got from their so-called transmission experts."

John S., NH (2012 GMC Acadia SLE 3.6-L V6)

"Late last year this vehicle was having a problem with shuddering and hesitation on acceleration. At first I thought it was an engine issue but it turned out to the transmission torque converter failing according to the repair shop. We had the transmission replaced at a cost of over $5500."

Anonymous, CA (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbo or supercharger, timing chain or timing belt.

What Owners Say

Engine rebuild or replacement

"We took this vehicle in several time for maintenance and service. Each time we informed them that we were experiencing an engine miss. I feel that this engine miss caused a piston rod to fracture causing a engine replacement. Note also that before the engine replacement we had the AC worked on costing over a thousand dollars. After the engine replacement we again had to have the AC worked on due to a damaged AC line which I feel was a result of the engine replacement which they claimed was no fault of theirs."

Anonymous, WV (2012 GMC Acadia Denali 3.6-L V6)

"just blew up"

Anonymous, VA (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)
Timing belt or chain

"Was replaced under warranty due to wear"

Anonymous, NC (2012 GMC Acadia SLT 3.6-L V6)

Power Equipment

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, remote engine start, alarm or security system

What Owners Say

Battery (not hybrid or electric)

"Battery has continuously discharged and can not be explained. Brought into shop at least five times (including this week). Problem is still a mystery...they keep replacing batteries"

Anonymous, TX (2012 GMC Acadia SLE 3.6-L V6)

"Battery was not charging properly during cold weather conditions. Due to the placement of the battery compartment and the type of battery required I was not able to replace the battery on my own"

Anonymous, QC (2012 GMC Acadia 3.6-L V6)

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, leaks.

What Owners Say

Other/unsure

"Just a repetitive recurrence of the warning light. About once a year. Seems to be pressure sensor under front passenger seat. Replaced and/or rewired several times."
