GMC Canyon

Competitors have surpassed the Canyon and its twin, the Chevrolet Colorado, in just about all categories. The unrefined five-cylinder engine lacks punch and doesn't offer a fuel-economy advantage over competing V6s. The older 3.5-liter version had to work hard to power our tested crew cab. Handling is sound but unexceptional. The ride is unsettled and the body constantly quivers. Despite relatively compact dimensions for a truck, the 48-foot turning circle is huge. A 5.3-liter V8 is available and electronic stability control is standard. Curtain air bags are standard for 2010 but the IIHS side-crash result is poor.
