The Sierra full-sized pickup is competent all around. The interior is quiet and roomy, handling and braking are good for a truck. The four-door extended-cab versions are also the only such pickups with habitable rear seats. The front seats are not particularly supportive. Four-wheel-drive models offer a selectable system with a full-time mode.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Acceleration is good."

Anonymous, TN (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"I drive it less than 5,.000 miles a year. This year I drove it only 3,000 miles. I bought it to go camping and to tow my 16ft Fisher runabout boat. As I get older I do less of both."

Anonymous, CA (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Quadrasteer What else is there to say. Love it. Same opinion from others I've met that have it"

JOHN W., CA (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"you step on the pedal and it get up and goes"

Anonymous, OH (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Good acceleration, good handling, tows well"

Anonymous, GA (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"It has 4 wheel steering. Great handling. Used to tow a 5th wheel trailer with it. Great even without the trailer. Had jitter problem, dealer said 4 wheel steering cutting out. Independent shop said all it needed was fluid change in rear axle. changed fluid. Runs like new."

Anonymous, CA (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The 5.3 has plenty of power."

Ken L., OR (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Good gas mileage"

Anonymous, NM (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

Anonymous, IL (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"very good acceleration and ride. great for a truck."

Tom T., TN (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"I've had this truck for 14yrs. It has been a real good investment. Once I got past 100,000 miles acceleration hasn't been that great. I've had it tuned up but it is beginning to show its age. The 03's had steering column issues, which transmitted a lot of road handling noise into the cab. This truck doesn't take rough roads well."

Anonymous, MO (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"For an older truck, the handling is still tight and she will go when you hit the gas"

Anonymous, OH (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"This truck has given great performance, it handles like a car and gets very good gas mileage."

Patricia M., WA (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Purchased the truck for towing a 5th wheel trailer. It has the tow package and 4 wheel steering. No more 5th wheel trailer but love the handling and the turn radius for every day use."

Anonymous, CA (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

Anonymous, ON (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

John M., TX (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"very comfortable ride, I can select stiff or softer suspension. I can have it stiff for hauling or a load and more comfortable for normal driving. leather seats are very good."

Anonymous, CA (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Ride is excellent for a pickup, not harsh like older trucks. Low noise level. You can adjust the AC temp coming out of the vents (not always cold or off)"

Anonymous, CT (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"For the longest time, those seats cradled me. I went on long rides, was always comfy. Now, through the yrs, the motors don't work and I was able to set it at what I like. Still a good ride"

Kurt R., WI (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Dependable, well built, Drivers seat back wears poorly. It is the bolster on the left of the back of the front seat. Have had it repaired but has come back again."

GREG F., IN (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Transmission failed at 50,000 miles, fluid leaks from Day One, CD Player failed after 30,000 miles. Emergency brake failed at 45,000 miles. Complete piece of junk."

STEVE B., CO (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The value of this pickup is fantastic. It has over 145,000 miles and still works great. The air conditioner has never been serviced; it cools very well. The upholstery has not torn. This vehicle was a good buy."

Anonymous, TX (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"the looks are very exporter to me"

Anonymous, AR (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Value was reasonable"

Rebecca D., VA (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"It has been a very good truck for a very long time. well worth what I paid for it."

Anonymous, CA (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"I bought this truck new in 2003. It has been a very solid performer. I have had just maintenance items to contend with. It gets good gas milage, and performs solidly every day. I am glad I bought it, because I have gotten my money's worth out of it."

Gregory W., TX (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"This Sierra Denali came with Quadrasteer standard, which is terrific and has been extremely useful as well as reliable. This was not an inexpensive truck, but I bought it new at a large discount and it has been very reliable with no major mechanical or electrical failures."

John B., NM (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"It was the top of the line for that yr. I ran into money from flipping houses. It cost a lot, but for the value after all these years,,,I'm glad I spent the money"

Kurt R., WI (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Too many parts rusted out underneath the truck. Including break lines 3 times. while driving on the highway (Bad safety issue) GM dealers could of cared less about issue and I paid full price (no recalls or service warnings)."

Robert G., MA (2003 GMC Sierra 1500)
