The Sierra has been a good choice for years, and the redesigned 2014 version is an even better performer. With this overhaul, the model landed some solid punches in the ongoing pickup wars. Handling is more carlike than in most others and the cabin is as quiet as a luxury car's. An assist system makes the tailgate easy to lift and prevents it from dropping open, easing cargo-handling duties.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"The acceleration power of the Sierra is great. Even pulling a 7200 pound RV the power is great. Handling is easy for driving and with parking."

August A., LA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Very good acceleration, good control even though I have a 2" levelling kit. Handy to have a large switch that is easy to use for kicking out the traction control in severe conditions."

Dave H., AB (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Great acceleration, cabin is easy to use controls easy to use."

Anonymous, PA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"very quick for a vehicle of this size and weight. it handles very well especially when you have snow or other slippery conditions. The auto track feature gives you great piece of mind that the 4 wheel drive will kick in when and if required."

Richard C., ON (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Great handleing matching maching"

Anonymous, IL (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"It has a car like ride and adequate acceleration."

Linda C., CO (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Quick easy to drive"

Anonymous, FL (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"A six thousand pound pick-up that drives/handles like a performance vehicle but is far more comfy."

Anonymous, MI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"While slowing to a stop and than accelerating you experience a hesitation and than a gear slection, at times it's a high gear and other times a low gear. Either way it is not a comfortable feeling."

Anonymous, NV (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Has a V8 engine which provides plenty of power for passing & towing"

Anonymous, NY (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Performance is very good. The drive train clunks occasionally, especially if you catch it in the wrong gear. At speed, gear changes are nearly seamless. It has sufficient power that it could probably spend more time in V-4 mode and get better mileage."

James M., OK (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Sure steering, great handling, more than adequate power."

Anonymous, MN (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"6.2 and the new automatic transmission has lots of snap with good gas mileage. Handles sweetly even pulling a heavy load"

Anonymous, MI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Wonderful ride"

Bert M., MO (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The 2015 GMC Sierra handles excellently. Maneuvering the vehicle is easy even when towing a trailer. The engine power is strong and steady."

Anthony C., GA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Onstar!"

Anonymous, KS (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"power and acceleration"

Reggie P., TN (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The 6.2 liter engine pushes this truck faster than my GTO I had in the late sixties. It’s very responsive and fun to drive on the road. My gas mileage it better than my last Sierra that was equipped with the 5.3 engine."

Anonymous, IL (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Very powerful and smooth"

Anonymous, UT (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"I have the engine that switched to 4 cylinders as needed and it really produces great mileage for a four wheel drive truck. Kicking in the V8 is automatic and smooth."

Andrew C., OH (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"acceleration is good at all times"

Anonymous, TX (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"power"

Reggie P., TN (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Transmission shifts are not smooth, acceleration is adequate, handling ok."

John S., WI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The handling is not bad for a truck. It does have a tendency to hesitate when accelerating."

MICHAEL Z., AB (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"My Sierra has the 6.2L engine and the performance is awesome for a pickup."

JOSE G., TX (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Poor headlights, upgrade was required and GM changed the lights in 2016. Rough shifting and poor idle, required a new transmission. This vehicle has been a disappointment !"

Anonymous, AB (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The 6.2 engine along with the 8 speed transmission has great acceleration, maintains highway speeds effortlessly even when pulling a heavy trailer. When running with no excessive load the mileage is almost as good or as good as those with small motors having less power."

DENNIS O., MI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Rough when down shifting coming to a stop. Seems to shift at inappropriate times. "clunky" at slow to moderate speeds."

JACK R., TX (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"I have this vehicle with the 6.2L with the 8 speed transmission, and it has awesome acceleration and better gas mileage than my F150 with the 3.5 Eco-boost."

ISA S., MI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"420 horsepower , excellent acceleration, 23 mpg on the hwy at 80 mph"

WILLIAM C., TX (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"a little slow drives well"

Anonymous, MA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"For a large, bulky truck the 6.2L V8 in my truck gets it moving. From a stop to 60 mph takes about 6 seconds. There is a little fishtailing that happens in wet or snowy conditions, but that is to be expected from a truck. The body lean in the corners is minimal due in part to the magnetic ride shocks."

Anonymous, MO (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The 5.3L V-8 is outstanding for towing my boat. Good fuel economy on the road, much improved over my older 2002 model GMC."

KARL W., TX (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"After only 2 years my drivers seat is pulling apart at the seams! Very disappointed."

Anonymous, WI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The seats are very comfortable. The noise level inside somewhat interferes with conversations with back seat passengers, depending upon road conditions. The ride is very comfortable."

August A., LA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Seats could be more comfortable for such a expensive vehicle. Drives great and I appreciate the grade braking. Back seats should have seperate air and heat. Passengers complain about temperature constantly I am a GM person but they need to take some tips from Ford on their space and comfort in a truck."

Keith C., WV (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The best riding truck on the market. The cabin is spacious and well designed ergonomically The seats are comfortable and afford you plenty of room for us bigger guys."

Keven G., MS (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Quiet beyond belief for a pickup."

Anonymous, WI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"you would not know you were in a truck, the interior is very nicely appointed, the seats are comfortable and there is very little road noise."

Richard C., ON (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Have had an issue with the rear suspension producing noisy squeaks. The leaf springs have been replaced, but recently I have noticed that the noises are returning. The truck has also had a more rough ride compared to my previous truck."

Anonymous, AL (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Having heated and cool seats is great. The heat helps my bad back. The cool settings are great in warm/hot weather. Noise and ride are a little better than past truck that I've owned. Stating that, well it's a truck with four wheel drive and the ride is definitely rougher than a car. I will say this truck is easier on my back than past trucks."

Roxanne P., OK (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Good, economy and quiet smooth ride Bad, leather seat wear from entry and exit"

Anonymous, TX (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The Sierra has the best comfort of any vehicle we have owned."

Barry W., MI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Have the SLT package. Low road noise. Very comfortable seats. Have driven several hundred miles daily on multiple occasions. Arrive at destination relaxed and comfortable. The Z78 suspension is firm. I am a truck person and enjoy this. Gives more feel for the road."

Michael P., SC (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Very comfortable and the ride is outstanding. No outside noise."

Michael B., GA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 is the most comfortable truck I have ever driven. The seats adjust easily and are heated and cooled. Road noise is greatly minimized. The ride is as smooth as a high end passenger car."

Anthony C., GA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Smooth and very comfortable ride."

Brian M., GA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"For a pick up truck, the ride and noise level is minimal. The seats and ride are extremely comfortable"

Anonymous, CA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"The seats are reasonably comfortable but not as good as they could be. The window seals whistle at road speed and always have since purchase. Dealer says nothing can be done."

Anonymous, WA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Very comfortable seats, quiet interior, great, smooth ride."

Anonymous, MN (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"power and acceleration"

Reggie P., TN (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"It’s a heavy truck that gets used as a truck half of the time. It’s the Denali model and is extremely comfortable and quite. The 6.2 engine makes it easy to pull a loaded trailer. It’s fun to drive because it’s very responsive on the road. The air conditioned seats are amazing. The Bose sound system is as good as it gets."

Anonymous, IL (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"smooth ride"

Reggie P., TN (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Quiet ride, comfortable seating, although stiff"

Anonymous, PA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Rides very well for a truck, low cabin noise comfortable seats"

Anonymous, NH (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"So far everything is functioning well, no problems."

Anonymous, BC (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Ride and quietness are exceptionally good. Seats aren't quite as good as I would have expected in a mid range (Kodiac package). Not too bad but wonder how good the seat part would be if I was heavy. I weigh under 170 pounds. Biggest disappointment is no lumbar adjustment for passenger seat. My 2002 GMC low end work truck had that."

Bruce D., ON (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"drives like a luxury auto not a PU Truck. It is quiet and very comfortable"

Anonymous, AL (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"very comfortable seats- best I ever had. Noise canceling actually works. For Max towing option it rides very nicely"

Anonymous, MI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"This is an extremely comfortable ride. Nicely contoured seats, good amount of space front and rear seat. I wouldn't want to drive across country in the rear seat but it could be done. We have no problems with noise at all"

Anonymous, MT (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Seats leave a lot to be desired. Ride and noise level very good for a truck."

John S., WI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Good lumbar support.solid ride"

Anonymous, NY (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

Andrew C., OH (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

Anonymous, MI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"Seats very comfortable. Styling and power is very good. The Nav. and dash conrols for radio and cd, etc and all the apps that you have to put up with....needs to be remodeled to the point that the customer can use it. It can get complicated to use and too many controls to use and know what they do."

Anonymous, AZ (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"No telescoping steering wheel makes it more difficult to find the right comfort position"

Anonymous, TX (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"(Negative) A common problem with GM trucks is that the front seat pads tend to loosen up from the chair frame over time causing the user to feel a tiny bit of slip motion when braking, turning, or accelerating from a stop position. This slipping feeling drives me nuts. Also the chair fabric stains way too easily. (Positive) Love the new lumbar support feature and the multiple comfort chair adjustment settings."

JEFFREY B., NJ (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"This is the only truck my wife can see properly to drive. Power seats get her high enough, other trucks she could not safely drive."

KENNETH K., IL (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"1. Seat is not comfortable for me. Don't like the way it supports my back. 2. Ride is good, except it tends to shudder when it hits railroad track crossings etc. 3. My Sierra does not have an upgraded dash or a touch screen. Pain in the ass to use Bluetooth etc while driving."

What Owners Say

"The quietness, ride and acceleration of this vehicle is very good."

William W., MI (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

"It is an OK pickup with several nice features in the cabin and outside the cab. Handling is below average but pretty good in ice and snow. The tech is average good but not all that user friendly. The seats are uncomfortable! Towing at higher freeway speeds exceeds the suspension stabilization and induces a frightening and dangerous sway in the truck and trailer! The price addition for my Denali model was definitely not worth the extra money! I wouldn't do that again! The transmission is v..."

Michael B., GA (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)

Anonymous, IL (2015 GMC Sierra 1500)
