2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
These trucks are much stiffer and ride less comfortably than the standard Sierra 1500 (1/2 ton). They are designed for hard work with a 3/4-ton load capacity. The ride is bouncy but the available engines include a relatively refined, Isuzu-developed 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 mated to a smooth six-speed automatic. A huge 8.1-liter V8 is also available. These trucks are intended for commercial use or heavy-duty towing.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"It is easy to drive, put it on cruise and it pulls RV's up and down hills like the trailed vehicle was not there. I honestly cannot report anything bad about this truck accept it is so good it keeps from buying anew one,"

John K., ID (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"Acceleration sluggish when needed ."

Anonymous, AZ (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"plenty of power for pulling travel trailer."

John G., OR (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"I have the turbo diesel so when I hit the accelerator, it rises to the occasion. I never have to worry about getting up to speed on the short on ramps around here."

Anonymous, WA (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"It is a good running truck that I have taken care of with a 6.6 liter motor with a Banks engineering package that I added ."

John H., WA (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"Rides a bit rough, (but it's a 3/4 ton), very good acceleration."

Anonymous, SC (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"I like just about everything about my 2006 GMC Truck. I have low miles on it and it is dream in towing my RV's. The MPG is not great. The truck still looks new and when towing and the transmission is in the tow mode, it performs very well. The engine is quiet and the oil was clean after the last change after 6000 miles. I have been offered good money for the truck but would just have to turn around and spend another $30,000 to $35,000 to replace it with a new truck that would not do a better job..."

John K., ID (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"Excellent tow vehicle with the 8.1L V-8 Plenty of grunt to power up and down all the hills with 29 ft. trailer in tow."

Darlene K., UT (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"Dependable and does the job."

Anonymous, OR (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"Very powerful 8.1L V-8 gas engine. Get's the job done. Truck handles towing duties very well. Rides decently enough when unloaded."

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The steering section develops noise after 3000 miles."

Anonymous, AR (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"We found a better ride and less noise when we changed to a less aggressive tire. So it's important to decide what's important to you on each trip"

Jennifer P., CA (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"I have had this vehicle since 2006. Bought with approximately 8000 mils on odometer from a fiend. Use for pulling RV.s and all around driving. It is a beautiful truck, Silver color that still looks new. It is a Duramax 2500 Diesel Quad truck and I have never had any major repairs or problems. I really like the way it handles, the quiet engine noise, the power to pull, the ride etc. It is the best vehicle I have ever owned and I am constantly asked by others if I would be interested in selling it."

John K., ID (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"interior package very good, seats are comfy, rides well empty or towing camper."

Anonymous, WI (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"Leather seats heated and comfortable"

Michael H., IA (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"Inadequate legroom for driver and very inadequate legroom in rear seat. Lower pillar posts interfere with your feet especially when exiting back seat."

Richard G., NV (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"Nice adjustments for both driver and passenger seats. comfortable."

Gail M., CA (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"The legroom in this crew cab, front and rear is inadequate. Since I got it I have found out that GM crewcabs are the worst in legroom. I would NOT buy another GM unless they get competitive with much more legroom."

RICHARD G., NV (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"In high cross or head winds the passenger door makes wind noise and we have no been able to get that fixed."

Anonymous, OR (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"Great climate control, rides good for a heave truck. Controls and steers well whether towing or not."

KAREN K., WA (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"Front and rear seats feel good 400 mile plus trips."

RAYMOND H., CA (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"For a diesel, it is amazingly quiet. I find it very comfortable and we both have very long legs. It has a heavy duty suspension, but doesn't feel stiff going down the road. It pulls our 5th wheel with no effort."

LORNA W., WA (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

Anonymous, SC (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"Great payload capability. The whole truck was well Designed and the features well thought out"

Robert F., MI (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)

"I did not pay very close attention to the financing numbers when I bought this vehicle and would have been much better off selling my trade-in on my own. Also, this was bought close to the end of the month and I felt the dealership was trying to make its monthly numbers and the sale was somewhat rushed - the transaction was completed about 10:30 at night."

THOMAS P., UT (2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD)
