Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

"System just failed. Common problem with Honda Accords of this year. At 36,018 miles the compressor failed and Honda wouldn't pay - 18 miles above the 36,000 threshold, they said. Go figure. Never will buy a Honda again for that reason. The airbags"

"The temperature control system has had problems since I first purchased the car. The main vents would not work and I took the car into the dealership several times, while it was under the 7 year extended (paid extra for) warranty. They always said they found nothing wrong. It It still does work correctly and the problem is intermittent, so it difficult to know if it will work or not when I take it to the dealer service department"

Anonymous, CA (2004 Honda Accord LX 3.0-L V6)

"The climate gates controlling airflow won't open and close properly. If the AC was on cold but the interior needs heat, it blows out cold air until I do the following in sequence: turn it on "Max Cold" then "Max Hot" then back to a temperature such as 72 degrees. The gates then allow heat to flow out of the floor vent as it should. Then I have to do the opposite to get it back to cool air blowing out the dash vents"

Tim C., FL (2004 Honda Accord EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"No a/C, sudden failure"

Anonymous, NV (2004 Honda Accord Unsure 3.0-L V6)

Kathleen H., IL (2004 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"I have to bring the car into the shop to switch between heating and cooling. It requires moving a part, which is partially broken between the settings. It costs $25 for the mechanic to make the switch, or up to $1000 to take the dashboard apart to replace the small broken part"

Anonymous, TX (2004 Honda Accord EX 3.0-L V6)

"Losses all refrigerant within 3 day of a full recharge. Replaced o-rings and fill valves neither of which solved the problem. Leak isn't visible, could be inside the compressor or in/around the evaporator under the dash. Due to age and milage, considering replacing the car rather than repairing"

Aaron J., CT (2004 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The air conditioner recently quit working. We are now in the process of diagnosing the problem. Our mechanic has refilled the refrigerant and we will return when the refrigeranthas again dissipated"

A FAILURE OF THE SPS CAUSES THE AIR BAG SYSTEM TO DEFAULT TO FULL INFLATION PRESSURE, REGARDLESS OF THE SEAT POSITION. FULL DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY FOR SMALLER DRIVERS IN A FRONTAL CRASH.
Summary:
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE SEAT POSITION SENSOR (SPS) DETECTS THE DRIVER'S SEATING POSITION AND ADJUSTS THE AIR BAG INFLATION PRESSURE ACCORDINGLY. THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE SPS WAS ATTACHED TO THE SEAT FRAME IN THE WRONG LOCATION AND MAY HAVE BEEN OVER TIGHTENED. THE SENSOR WIRE MAY BREAK AND CAUSE THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT TO BE ILLUMINATED, AND THE SPS TO FAIL.
What should you do:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SEAT POSITION SENSOR WIRING SUBHARNESS. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON OR ABOUT FEBRUARY 8, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.
