Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Great handling and acceleration"

WM T., VA (2001 Honda Civic)

"Acceleration from a complete stop is mediocre. W/ the air con on, acceleration is even slower and braking to a complete stop takes a longer distance. However, it is responsive when the brake isn't applied. Can zip. Love the fact that driving 65-70 mph on the highway w/ air con on doesn't reduce mileage significantly. I have recorded every gas purchase, incl. gallons pumped and amount paid since I bought this used car in 2004. It has been reliable transportation allowing me the time to choos"

KANG C., NJ (2001 Honda Civic)

"Low to accelerate"

WILLIAM C., VA (2001 Honda Civic)

"I am not a large woman so I like a small car. It is easy to manage whether driving or parking. I like a two door car for the look and since I am not putting kids in anymore it's no problem. Of course my kids just got in any way the found and say however back in the day. Overall just live my Honda Civic"

CHARLENE D., OK (2001 Honda Civic)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The road noise has always been fairly pronounced in this car, a common problem with the Civic line. I have had to repair the air conditioner a few times, including presently. The seats, however, are very comfortable and supportive."

Anonymous, LA (2001 Honda Civic)

"Very loud, very hard ride, climate control slow to warm up or cool down"

WILLIAM C., VA (2001 Honda Civic)

"It's a fun car to drive. You could drive it for hours. Definitely a drivers car. Not so much a family car."

BRIAN P., OR (2001 Honda Civic)

"Rough riding on road, feel every imperfection of roadway"

STANLEY S., OK (2001 Honda Civic)

"Seats have multiple adjustments and front leg room"

SUSAN D., MD (2001 Honda Civic)

"The car is easy to get in and out of, and the seat is reasonably high. I've tried newer Civics and found them too "low slung"."

Anonymous, NY (2001 Honda Civic)

"I love the way the seats seem to snuggle around you."

SANDRA S., TN (2001 Honda Civic)

"seat adjustment allows lifting driver's seat which is great for a short driver"

STUART N., CA (2001 Honda Civic)

"a little too noisy"

HOWARD P., NC (2001 Honda Civic)

"It is aloud ride. While doesn't often bother me,it istiringon a long ride"

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"good price low maint costs keeps going"

Anonymous, ON (2001 Honda Civic)

"I'm still driving my 2001 Honda Civic. I turn the key, it starts. Every time. Unless I just jinxed myself by saying that."

CHERYL H., TX (2001 Honda Civic)

"Purchased new, my Civic was affordably priced and has provided reliable performance for 15 years. There have been some significant repairs needed, but the car still meets my needs."

Anonymous, PA (2001 Honda Civic)

"Never had any major problems with my Civic. Just got new brakes for the first time at 125000 miles!!"

MARY E., WI (2001 Honda Civic)

"It's a great car. Other than routine maintenance (occasional battery replacement, tires, scheduled oil changes, replacement of interior air and oil filters), only one major problem with a worn out engine part at 135,000 miles in early 2014, resulting in repair costs of about $2000. Not bad for the then 14 year old car. Local Honda dealer provided a loaner car at no cost for the week and a half it they had it in for repair. Excellent car, excellent service."

FRAN H., NM (2001 Honda Civic)

"over 400,000 miles, one run in with a deer and still going strong, great gas milage"

Anonymous, NC (2001 Honda Civic)

"I'm amazed that the car has lasted for 180,000 miles with no major service problems. I think it was a good strategy to go with a basic small car, but to get the best quality vehicle in that class."

ROY B., CA (2001 Honda Civic)

"This car has over 200,000 miles and has never had what I would call a serious problem that cost me significant dollars to repair. And the gas mileage has been outstanding in the 15 years I've owned it. When I first bought it new and for several years after, it got 39 miles per gallon. As it has aged the gas mileage has dropped a bit to 36 miles per gallon, but still darn good when you consider it is not a hybrid....just a regular gas engine."

Anonymous, WA (2001 Honda Civic)

"reasonably priced."

Anonymous, NV (2001 Honda Civic)

"Excellent Mileage (HX Model) Not very good regarding tolerance to rust both from the body standpoint and also exhaust components. Had to replace catalyst due to rusty flanges in the system. Very expensive repair even buying parts from aftermarket."

CRAIG M., MI (2001 Honda Civic)

"15 years of low cost ownership and high dependability. Always has started up except for one unexpectedly dead battery."

Anonymous, MD (2001 Honda Civic)

"It's been paid off for 12 yrs and has had few problems other than normal wear and tear. The repairs I've needed were inexpensive due to a ready supply of parts."

ELIZABETH L., IN (2001 Honda Civic)

"These little cars are built for the long haul. We push her to the limit and she keeps on pushing. You pay for what you get. She's not pretty and drives like a tank but great gas mileage and keeps on going."

Anonymous, MI (2001 Honda Civic)

"With person age, getting in and out."

JAMES H., WA (2001 Honda Civic)

"Extremely reliable. Low cost to maintain and operate."

Anonymous, ON (2001 Honda Civic)

"Like the Energizer Bunny, it just keeps going and going."

KEN B., CA (2001 Honda Civic)

"the car is 15 years old and still going strong. all major expenses were pretty much expected (timing belts, brakes, etc) and a clutch will be needed eventually, but still good."

Anonymous, NJ (2001 Honda Civic)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"The fabric on the inside at the back of the roof and on the back doors is detached and coming more and more loose and flaps around. Also the backside fabric and foam of the sunshade visor (the side facing the sun) on both driver and passenger side is full of holes and disintegrating."

Anonymous, BC (2001 Honda Civic)

"The one thing that bothers me is the headliner is coming loose. The rest of the car is holding up quite well."

Anonymous, WI (2001 Honda Civic)
