Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2018 Honda Fit owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Electric System

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

What Owners Say

Heated or cooled seats

"The driver's seat bottom did not heat. It was repaired."

Anonymous, IN (2018 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Seat heaters became very slow to start, and wouldn't really heat. Honda has heaters on back order--we are waiting for new ones."

Robert K., ME (2018 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Interior lights

"the interior map and dome light were not working when I brought it home from the dealership. It ended up being that there had not been a fuse installed."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Tire pressure monitor

"Tire pressure indicator is always on. Dealer reset it and said it was fine. Then it came back on and stayed on, but tires were fine. Then we had a slow tire leak and didn't realize it because the TPMS was already on. Had to buy 2 new tires. Tried to work this out with the dealer and got no response."

Anonymous, (2018 Honda Fit Unsure 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Display screen goes blank

"The display said it lost power. The GPS didn't work. The right side camera didn't work. It eventually rebooted and worked. This has happened about 6-8 times. It has never been diagnosed or fixed."

W H., IN (2018 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Navigation ceases, then restarts itself, sometimes only after turning the car off and restarting it. It has happened once every 3 or 4 months since we bought the car. Service technicians have not been able to duplicate the problem."

Anonymous, IN (2018 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Have to reprogram the voice commands multiple times for phone pairing."

Bob D., NC (2018 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

What Owners Say

Loose exterior trim or moldings

"The splash guard was falling off and had to be replaced."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Chips in paint upon delivery, dealer says they will fix"

Sol S., FL (2018 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, oil leaks.

What Owners Say

Engine mounts

"There's a design flaw with the transmission mount. After a short period of time (< 3000 miles) it develops a creak you can hear every time you engage the clutch from a stop. It sounds like a problem with the clutch, but it's actually the rubber stopper on the transmission mount that rubs against a metal stop. I had a 2015 Fit with this problem and it took a couple visits to the dealer to convince them to work on it. Finally they got advice from their technician hotline and replaced the transmission mount. It fixed the problem, but after a short period of time, it reoccurred. On this 2018 I didn't bother to have it fixed, because the noise would come back again. It's a design flaw that Honda hasn't addressed, but I consider it a SERIOUS problem since likely every MT car will make this noise and there is no fix for the customer. You just have to live with it. It's loud enough that passengers ask what's wrong with my new car."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Fuel System

Check engine light, sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor), emission control devices (includes EGR), engine computer, engine computer, fuel cap, fuel gauge/sender, fuel injection system, fuel pump, fuel leaks, stalling or hesitation.

What Owners Say

Fuel injection system

"Car began idling somewhat. One day I was driving when suddenly all the warning lights started flashing on the dash. Immediately called the dealer, they said to not drive it and have it towed in. They ran diagnostics on it and it seems fuel injectors were faulty."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Refrigerant leaks

"Honda AC usually develop problems after 2-3 years. This fit is typical."

Anonymous, (2018 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Squeaks or rattles

"A strong rattle inside the driver's door was repaired twice and has not recurred."

W H., IN (2018 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Power Equipment

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, remote engine start, alarm or security system

What Owners Say

Battery (not hybrid or electric)

"I inadvertently left the map light on and didn't use the car the next day - so it sat in this condition for more than one night. It completely drained the battery to the point where it could not be jumped or charged with any of the typical consumer devices. It had to be towed to the dealer for a battery replacement as it caused the battery to sulfonate and it would no longer hold a charge. It's disappointing that there's not a timer or some kind of fail safe that would prevent the customer from killing their battery by making such a simple mistake."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
