The Odyssey is big and spacious, yet it doesn't feel bulky. The Honda provides good handling, comfortable seating, and offers an ideal combination of acceleration and fuel economy. It's an excellent choice for people who need plenty of interior space.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Well, it's a big giant minivan., not a sports car. But it accelerates fast enough to pass safely on 2-lane rural Iowa roads, and the handling is not sloppy. My husband drives it like a sports car anyway. Whenever we took long family trips and he did most of the driving, it would suffer a dramatic drop in brake wear right after. Now that our kids are grown and we use our other car for trips and I'm mostly the only driver, it almost never needs anything other than routine maintenance. It also mov..."

Joan J., IA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Always seems to have enough acceleration & braking for the vehicle size"

Anonymous, UT (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"For something as mundane as a mini van the Odyssey has really excellent acceleration and it handles much like a car. I find the suspension very compliant for a vehicle of this size and it handles potholes and rough city roads with poise. it's generally pretty fun to drive - for a mini van."

Anonymous, TX (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"After a few years the transmission started to slip. There was a recall on replacing it. I still had to pay 50% of the replacement cost."

Curtis M., WA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"One of the easiest handling and most comfortable vehicles I've owned. Easy to park, great on acceleration and cornering. I've always felt safe. Very reliable"

Anonymous, CA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Best mini van I've owned"

Anonymous, MA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Transmission died and had to be replaced when car was around 6 or7 years old (more or less)"

JOSEPH R., CT (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Not very peppy acceleration."

Anonymous, WA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Car drives and handles very well, but it is getting older, so a little less acceleration power and more squeaks and rattles on previously quieter vehicle."

Anonymous, TX (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Nice handling for such a large minivan, Very small turning radius for such a large vehicle. Acceleration up very steep hills could be better. Transmission was replaced by the dealer with a rebuilt while in the last weeks of an 8 years warranty. The transmission worked well when the car was new, but not sure if it is really working properly."

Anonymous, NJ (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Good road car."

Anonymous, NV (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Great handling and navigation, especially for a minivan."

Anonymous, AZ (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"I was pleasantly surprised how well this big, heavy vehicle accelerates. The 3.5L V6 does a very admirable job of moving the van. The engine often sounds and feels like a V8. The shift points on the transmission seem mismatched to the engine RPMs. It has always held out in 1st and 2nd gear too long. The Odyssey is no sports sedan, but it handles better than the domestic minivans that I have owned or rented."

Mark H., GA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Prompt response, good acceleration, no delay, so smooth I have to be careful not to go over the speed limit."

Phyllis F., NC (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Ride"

Anonymous, FL (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats in the Odyssey are very comfortable and still look like new after all this time. The car rides well and doesn't seem too noisy. It is a very comfortable car for travel."

Anonymous, WI (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Same as the 2008...was the easiest vehicle for my wife's elderly mother to enter and exit."

Ogden U., TN (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Noise is HORRIBLE at all speeds. Entertainment system has to be cranked up to hear on the highway, then you can't talk with anyone. Have experimented with many different tires over the years with minimum effect. Along with other problems this vehicle is WAY overrated!"

David K., TX (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Great for long drives. Great visibility, comfortable, plenty of leg and movement room,"

MICHAEL B., RI (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"I've had this car since it was new(16 years) and still love this car!"

D M., NY (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Excellent vehicle all around. Great family car. Very comfortable"

Anonymous, ON (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"The dashboard light are starting to malfunction. They are starting to get dime and hard to read at night."

Anonymous, OH (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"After 15, years. I'm not sick of it! I follow manufacturer's maintenance recommendations. Other than the factiory radio failing at four years and several lamp LED failures, it has been a low maintenance vehicle. High road noise (seems characterisitic of many 2000 to 2010 Hondas of ALL models); solved with an active noise reduction system. It is noiser than my 1986 Dodge Caravan LE.."

DAVID T., PA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Lacking of lumbar support adjustment"

Anonymous, ON (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"It is noisy"

EDWARD H., SC (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Very happy with its seat comforts and ride noise."

Anonymous, MS (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats are not as comfortable for the back as in the Honda Accord 2002"

Anonymous, NJ (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"The ride is smooth and the seats adjust easily and comfortably. The climate control is easy to use for drivers as well as passengers. We love this van."

Anonymous, IL (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Like the flexibility of the seating arrangement."

Anonymous, NV (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats are comfortable. The ride is smooth and absorbs bumps. It's fairly quiet. Steering is not as tight as it once was."

Mary C., OH (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Noisy véhicule on the road."

Anonymous, WA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Extremely comfortable especially for long drives. Noise negligible, ride very smooth, seats fit my back very well."

Phyllis F., NC (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Road noise is almost unpleasantly high, now ostensibly solved with an active noise suppression system using the vehicle audio system."

David T., FL (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Little sitting fatigue on long trips, reasonably quiet and controlled ride for a minivan."

Anonymous, IL (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Road noise is above average, but tolerable. The seats and ride are very comfortable."

Anonymous, NJ (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"very comfortable in seating and luggage"

Joe-Carol C., TN (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Comfortable seats and some of the best handling that we have seen. As it ages, the noise level from road noise is beginning to increase. We can get lots of stuff in the vehicle, which is a great advantage."

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"16 years old, 368000 miles, and it's still running great."

Anonymous, TX (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Amazing choice -- I bought this van for the engine quality and interior room, with three tall kids and large dogs. Engine hums and has had no major repairs. Had to replace shocks and struts at 15 years: not bad. No breakdowns EVER since 2001."

Carolyn W., SC (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"So far got good value out of the vechicle"

Anonymous, FL (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Ourodyssey has been super reliable & gets much better gas mileage than most larger vehickles!"

Anonymous, MT (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"This van has transported many people and things over its lifetime making it an extremely useful vehicle. Further it is an extremely comfortable vehicle and a pleasure to drive over short and long distances. Maintenance is very reasonable and no expensive repairs have been required."

John G., VA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"It's one of the most economical to operate vehicles available, from its initial price to its day-to-day operating expenses. Toyota's warranties have covered almost all the problems we've experienced...although there have not been many of them."

Anonymous, OK (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"The Van has lasted a very long time and has been very reliable. If the newer models are as good I would definitely buy it. It has been the most comfortable ride on very long trips from Colorado to Texas and back again over the years."

Edward S., TX (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"The fact that I bought it nearly 17 years ago (fall of 2001) and still own it speaks volumes. I have NEVER had a major repair on this car due to a fault, nor have I had a breakdown on the road. I've maintained it within an inch of its life, and have had to replace the timing belt and brakes once, the tires several times, etc., and random belts....but these are routine maintenance. The only thing that ever went wrong with it was the AC konked out during a hot summer trip when it was almost 3 yrs..."

Joan J., IA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"A very reliable car, although a bit more pricey than other mini-vans, is a great, reliable, all around transportation."

Anonymous, NE (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Great value, as it now has 231,000 miles and the only problem has been the a/c. Good cargo space, very easy to drive, quiet, smooth handling, good acceleration."

A S., NM (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Having kept it for 15 years should be sufficient evidence of the excellent performance verses cost"

Anonymous, ON (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"I got goodvalue."

Anonymous, MO (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"At an average "payment" of $300/month, I've owned it free and clear for 5 years!"

DAVID T., PA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Versatile - can carry almost anything or anyone"

EDWARD H., SC (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Great car. Lots of room and great for travel. . To be such an old car now it runs great. Has 180,000 miles on it. I had to replace the transmission and got a lousey job. Not Honda's fault."

Anonymous, FL (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"The transmission failed at near 90K miles. Very disappointed. Expected much more mileage from this drive train."

Anonymous, MI (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Wonderful vehicle with almost no mechanical problems through all these years"

Sarah J., NC (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"It was a very good value overall. I did have to replace the transmission at 194,000 miles. Excellent gas mileage. 22 normally and up to 27 on a trip."

Mary C., OH (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"It just keeps going and going and going. I did not spend any money Other than normal maintenanceUntil I had on the vehicle for 15 years. I recently put $1500 into it but it was well worth it I love my van"

D B., CA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Just keeps on going"

Anonymous, VA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"I purchased the Odyssey new in 2001. At the time, there were waiting lists of two to three months to take delivery. Many dealers were charging $2,000 to $3,000 over MSRP. The best deal that I could find was for full MSRP. The Odyssey was significantly better than my Dodge Grand Caravan. Also, the Odyssey had many issues with the automatic transmission. Honda replaced the first one at 70,000 miles. I replaced the second one at 115,000 miles."

Mark H., GA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Outstanding quality and long term reliability. No. maintenance other than battery, tires and brake pads."

Anonymous, NH (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"We bought the Odyssey new in 2001. It had 306,000 miles on it when I bought the new Odyssey in 2016 and I passed it onto my son who drove it for 2 years. I just passed it onto my daughter so I'd say I got my money's worth. The only real issue it has had was the transmission which was a known issue. Even though it was a bad transmission, I still got 260,000 miles on it before it had to be replaced."

Anonymous, IL (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Workhorse. Very reliable. Can fit a lot of stuff in it. Versatile."

Sylvia B., WI (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Seventeen years of ownership with only routine maintenance costs (two timing belts!)."

David T., FL (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"Very reliable, roomy, handling is very-good for a minivan, mileage on the highway is good (~ 23 MPG), poor around-town (18-19)."

Joe S., CA (2001 Honda Odyssey)

"After 18 years of ownership, we've done little aside from maintenance and the car starts and runs well every day. The only major repair we've done over this time has been to have the transmission rebuilt approximately 6 years ago."

Anonymous, NJ (2001 Honda Odyssey)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"I like the newer style better because it is slightly larger and the overall body style is more appealing than the 2001 model. This car currently has 155,000 miles and it still runs and looks good. My next car is a Honda Odyssey, with the newer body style."
