Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"good acceleration for a 4-cylinder minivan. Handles well on the road and in turns."

Michael S., MD (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"It handles and rides well for a 15 year old vehicle. The V6 has plenty of power. Unfortunately it doesn't have stability control and we feel we may be ready to replace it because of that. It's our car for highway trips and the lack of stability control is a huge concern."

Michael D., OH (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"The Odyssey has been our work horse vehicle for highway driving and hauling things and people around town. it has a very versatile cargo area. We have been very satisfied during the 13 years that we have owned the vehicle. We are the second owner and have been pleased to drive this vehicle."

Anonymous, VA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Good acceleration"

Anonymous, VA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"no cost at all, this vehicle is very reliable and the engine works fine."

Regent B., QC (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"It drives like a car. Quick enough to keep up with traffic. Handles just fine. It's not an exciting ride but it is stable and predictable."

Mark P., FL (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Handling for a vehicle of this size"

Anonymous, NH (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Acceleration is amazing, for a van, or for any car! I tell my friends that I drive it like a sports car, and it responds like one, albeit with too high center of gravity. It even accels going uphill! This is important for me in my commute, where I do have to accelerate quickly occasionally."

Alice G., WA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"The Odyssey has great handling, stability and control. Last month was driving on Interstate when big Mower-tractor cut in front of me. Had to head for Median at 75 MPH to miss tractor, but never came close to losing control. After a tow out of the Median, and we were on our way."

Anonymous, NC (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"For a car with 210000 miles it still runs very good and with just regular maintenance. It has been very reliable."

Anonymous, VA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"This vehicle has very good acceleration, the engine feels strong, and the new transmission is flawless. The Odyssey maneuvers well, even for a van. It handles good on hills and winding roads, with the front wheel drive pulling through each corner very assuredly."

Kevin H., CA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"While not outstanding, it does drive pretty much as it did when new. The drive train is still smooth and responsive. The handling is probably just a bit off. I suspect that the shocks are getting a bit worn after 15 years."

Greg C., CA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"drives like a car"

Anonymous, VA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Great accelaration"

JOHN K., IL (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Runs like a scalded dog. Powerful acceleration when needed. Crash avoidance maneuvering is exceptional. Amazing handling for such a large vehicle. It can get up to 27 mpg highway but a pitiful 13 mpg around town. Overall great vehicle for 14 years/119800 miles. My "enclosed pickup truck". 2003 Odyssey EX. (with seats removed, you can lay 4x8' sheets of plywood in the cargo area)"

TOM A., NC (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Best."

JOSEPH J., NM (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Powerful 6-cylinder. Easy to accelerate into traffic despite the size."

"Great acceleration Heavy steering and handling"

JANE N., OR (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Engine provides adequate acceleration when getting on freeways or passing."

Anonymous, CO (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"The car drives very smoothly and very comfortably. The turning can sometimes feel like I am in a big minivan. But I am in the big minivan and I feel very safe and secure. It does not feel like driving a nice small sports car. I am getting used to the handling and the acceleration is fine. I love my Odyssey."

MEREDITH J., CT (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Handles like a car, nice to drive, good pick up."

Anonymous, FL (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"We wanted a vehicle that would be used for all family travel re: Hockey/soccer games/tournaments; dance/music recitals/competitions; vacations and just everyday stuff (grocery shopping and to/from school). This has been our war wagon! From major snow storms to sweltering heat wave this van has carried us safely everywhere! If it wasn't for the rust, I'd be keeping her! Great acceleration - powerful little engine! Handled great in snow - traction control worked great. Had a few emergency handling situations where it drove like a sedan!"

Anonymous, ON (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Quick response and handling"

Anonymous, CA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Acceleration is excellent with the 6 cylinder. Road noise can be excessive unless the pavement is smooth. Suspension has gotten very loose and sways as the van aged."

Raymond L., CA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Acceleration is great. I can accelerate up hill! The handling is great, the acceleration is great, and is a great family car."

Alice G., WA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Good acceleration. Drives better than any of the other minivans. Only issue is transmission which has trouble going into reverse when engine is hot. Have not had this addresses, and we try to go gently on it when shifting inti reverse, or just pull through the parking space so I don't have to back out."

Michael B., NY (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Runs great. Powerful acceleration when needed. Excellent handling-emergency avoidance. I finished my response but your system won’t allow me to continue. Your system said I was done but continues to require more input. If this continues, I will not respond to another CR survey"

Tom A., NC (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"The Honda's engine provides adequate power in all situations, especially when driving on Colorado's mountain interstate and other roadways."

Andrew K., CO (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"great turning radius, great acceleration"

Anonymous, CA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"The Odyssey is my baby. It is always comfortable, and is the vehicle that we take trips in. It isn't the quietest, but is still a great ride."

Alice G., WA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Comfortable seats and plenty of room. Also, very versetile interior, and I love the flipdown center table which enable me to move long pieces of lumber. Looked at newer vans and none of the had this feature. Chose to drive this to Cape Cod last week over subaru because it has more room"

Michael B., NY (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"The 1999 to 2004 Generation 2 Honda Odyessy was an excellent DESIGN that was horribly BUILT. I have never had a vehicle that had so many petty details fail (door hinges, ignition lock, electrical lights, latches, etc). One outstanding feature that survived the fiasco is the drivers seat. I would argue that the 2003 Odyessy drivers seat is one of the most comfortable, generous, and easist to get in and out of. The Second row is also very good. That said the ride has always been pretty bad--much like an old truck on springs--and the nature of the Ody to lean steering one way or the other tends to create vibrations. Does tend to ride better with a full load than just with a driver. But the drivers position --which I will miss--is no compensation for such a poorly made (and expensive) vehicle that has soured me forever on th eonce venerable Honda brand,"

John M., FL (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Comfortable on long drives. Very little fatigue for all passengers"

Mike M., ON (2003 Honda Odyssey)

Anonymous, IL (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Has been a great vehicle that has served us well. Only complaints are that we had to replace the entertainment system at one point. It burned out and was very expensive."

Regent B., QC (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"This was the first year for 5 speed transmissions. They didn't last."

Wayne P., VA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"13 years &66000 miles without significant problems"

Theodore O., CA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"What a joy this vehicle has been! We've had it for 14 years (since new), and had well over 200,000 miles on it before any problems showed up. We had to replace the transmission, and actually chose to do this instead of getting a new car, because this vehicle has "good bones". It has always been a workhorse for us, and remains so to this day. It is still quite comfortable, and the engine is strong."

Kevin H., CA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"192,000 mies, still going strong, no oil burning, did require transmission rebuild last week-1st major repair in all those miles."

A M., AZ (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Trouble free for 175000 miles."

Anonymous, OK (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"This car is nearly 15 years old and it does not drive or feel like an old car. I have never had that experience before. When I bring it in for periodic service it generally only needs minor work at most. It is real value to not have to buy a replacement. Being a mini-van, it is a bit of a guzzler, but new mini-vans are only slightly better in mileage. It probably equals the mileage of newer full-size SUV's and probably beats them in space."

Greg C., CA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Very flexible cargo /passenger space. Hauled everything form grandkids and bikes to a piano and lumber."

J H., TN (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Since 2003, other than routine maintenance/inspection/tires/brakes, the only major expense has been the transmission rebuild at 130,000. That is a fantastic deal!"

JOHN B., NC (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"This vehicle is outstanding. Excellent ride and handles great. I would just want a newer model. These are supposed to last, with regular maintenance, up to 400K miles! You can't beat that with a stick!"

"We wanted a family car that could be configured to carry bicycles inside. With the rear seats down and one middle seat removed the Odyssey easily carries two bicycles and three people plus gear and luggage."

Irene P., IL (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Stay away at this point. I have been fortunate with the transmission unlike most, I have one of the oldest Ody's at my dealership. The carrying capacity is excellent volume wise: I can get a 4' x 4' x 4' cuble in the back with the third row folded down and a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood fits in the back with the 2nd row removed. Also 10' lengths of pipes will fit entirely inside between the seats."

John M., FL (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"This is the go to vehicle for Boy Scouts, hauling lumber, moving, trips and highschoool football players"

Anonymous, GA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Purchased new, 15 years later no major repairs other than routine maintenance."

Matthew P., GA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"Bought new and now have 175,000 miles and going strong, so I'm happy. Only component which failed before I think it should have was the transmission at about 75,000 miles. This was beyond the warranty, so I paid myself. My Honda dealer wanted $3,600 for a repair. I went to AAMCO, got it repaired for $1,200 and it is still going."

James H., MA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"We've had 15 very reliable, trouble-free years, great carrying capacity, decent gas mileage, very good comfort, all at a reasonable price."

"pricey for a quality vehicle"

Anonymous, IA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"I have 205,000 miles on the car. The only major replacement was transmission about 25,000 miles ago. Has lots of dents from parking on NYC streets, so I have inexpensive insurance without theft or collision (who would steal it?) Change oil every 5,000; service annually. Major problems: noisy interior; visibility in rear is poor; too big to easily find street parking."

James S., NY (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"The size and and availability to carry large objects and many suitcases"

J H., TN (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"15 years later so it was good value."

Ron J., ON (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"In 2003, we thought $30,000 for a car was perhaps out of our budget. But this Honda was rated tops in reliability and wow, was that correct! The car is 15 years old and we're only now having to make repairs. Getting 15 yrs out of an A/C in Phoenix is a miracle! We're still hoping this car will outlive us."

Anonymous, AZ (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"It's been a family work horse, including many vacation trips. We had transmission trouble around 60,000 mile and Honda split the bill. Otherwise, it has been a good value."

Raymond L., CA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"This mini van is great. It is comfortable to sit in especially for people over 6 ft. It handles beautifully and looks amazing after owning it for 15 years. The paint job is excellent and has never faded. I will hate to give my van up."

Anonymous, CA (2003 Honda Odyssey)

What Owners Say

"My Odyssey still looks good for 13, and I love the color, the inside looks great still."

THOMAS D., FL (2003 Honda Odyssey)

"It was a simple laid out interior, no cockpit feeling up front. Had enough basic needs without a lot of extra electronic gizmos. Had ample space to carry a bicycle or a 4x8 sheet of plywood. My most practical vehicle ever owned. On the exterior, simple straightness of body."
