What Owners Say

"This minivan handles well on highway and country roads. Though I do have trouble with some shaking when hitting 65-70 mph on the highway, despite wheel balancing and alignment adjustments. Not sure if the mechanic is at fault or if it's the car itself. There is plenty of power for most situations."

"Great acceleration, good in snow, and easily, comfortably carries large family members."

"Steering wheels shakes at speeds above 60 have it checked out and was told there was no problem. I know there is a problem with this."

RICHARD G., CO (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"It is a great vehicle. It is kind of big but doesn't feel big while driving - good acceleration and handling. It has a lot of room when seats are down. The middle seats have to be physically removed in order to utilize all the space - they are pretty heavy and a bit tricky to re-install. Seats are comfortable."

CHARLES S., CO (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"VCM. Variable Cylinder Management system is bad. I guess it's because it was Hondas first stab at it but the thing stinks. It destroys motor mounts as well as causes vibrations at highway speeds. Just annoying. So bothered by it It will be hard for me to consider buying another can with some type of cylinder deactivation system. I know they have gotten better but man this one was bad."

Anonymous, FL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"It hugs the road very well making it easy to drive on hills and curves. Previous minivan not good in this area."

PATRICIA K., CA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Acceleration is still excellent even after 194k miles. I still have the original muffler on the car,yes it is still quite.I had my first brake job done at 164k miles. Engine is quite and smooth . Best car I have ever owned. Runs so good I have no need to sell it."

"Road noise is very high thus the reason we have a Toyota Highlander limited"

Ken C., CA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Seats are comfortable, less noisy than our prius."

Anonymous, CA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats (cloth) could be firmer. I've made many long distance trips over the years and find myself squirming and shifting positions in the driver's seat."

Stephen L., FL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"It is comfortable, but there is a high pitch noise that happens in the window when it rains and you are going at high speed. It is a comfortable ride"

Tiffany F., MO (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Moderate road noise. Smooth ride."

Anonymous, MI (2005 Honda Odyssey)

Anonymous, CA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"East to get in and out of and plenty of cargo space. Very reliable."

Danny D., FL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Heated seats only help some passengers. Electric seats needed for front, but neither has sufficient range of adjustment for tall drivers."

Anonymous, MD (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"For a premium model, this car has ALWAYS been very loud. It got better when I swapped out the horrible run-flat tires that came with it, but it's still a very noisy car. Wind noise, tire noise, squeaks and rattles . . . you name it."

Elizabeth S., FL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"In my 60 years of driving a wide varity of vehiicle my Honda Odyssey is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever driven. I have spent many hours in it traveling all over the north american continent inall kinds of weather and this is by far the best vehicle I have ever driven. I can ride in it for a long time an still be comfortable. the seats are very comfortable and the inside is quiet. I just love this van. Can't say enough good things about it. Best vehical i ever owned."

Marbeth G., KY (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Soft comfortable seats with arm rests, smooth quiet engine,"

Theresa R., CT (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Seats are still very comfortable even after all these years. The leather is starting to fade and crack in places. To be expected for a vehicle of this age. Some trim pieces are starting to fail leading to increased wind noise."

Anonymous, TX (2005 Honda Odyssey)

Leanna S., MO (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"noisy on the freeway"

Anonymous, VA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"The handling, cabin quietness and comfortable seating for 8 exceed my expectations."

Lee W., CA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Comfort is excellent for long distance coast-to-coast trips and even for shorter trips. Leather seats are very comfortable. Driver's seat has very good lower back support. Noise was loud the first 90,000 miles because of the factory and replacement tires. Since then, Michelin tires have a different compound. They wear longer, grip better and are much more quiet. The ride comfort seems to be above average for a 2005 year mini van."

Anonymous, CO (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Inside room for transporting just about anything."

Richard V., NV (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"I like front and middle seats, but third seats areVery difficult to get to. I don’t know why they can’t redesign this feature so there Iis a “jump door‿ like you have in some quad truck cabs so you can get into the third seat more comfortably."

Ralph H., CA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Road noise is a problem. After buying expensive tires several times the ride in the oddysey is rough- you feel every bump and there has been a slight vibration on the front end since day one. Nothing has been able to correct this issue."

Joel P., SC (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"We have taken 3 cross country trips in the van the last one we were gone 7 weeks and drove 14,000 miles. the seas are comfortable and the vehicle rides very well. The noise level at hi-way speeds are annoying, often have to repeat what we say to each other."

"Like the driving position and handling of the Odyssey. I have owned Accords for over 25 years before buying this vehicle and it has the Accord's handling while allowing me to sit higher and more comfortably in traffic. Overall great visibility and handling make the commute easier on my older frame :)"

Anonymous, WA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats are comfortable, but this has always been a very noisy car, and I wish the climate controls had more variability. I used to have a 2000 Town & Country that was MUCH more advanced in allowing the driver to choose a setting (how much air went to the feet versus the main vents, for instance)."

ELIZABETH S., FL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"The ride is excellent and comfortable. Honda Service is overly expensive. The both side sliding doors have become inoperable and cost to repair prohibitive as with most other major components on a Honda."

WILLIAM S., NY (2005 Honda Odyssey)

MATT R., GA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"It is more comfortable than most of the cars I have had in the past. I like the climate control, heated seats, and the seat adjustment. Because I am short I can make the seat move so I am comfortable driving, although I wish I could move the seat belt so it does not come up to around my neck!"

HARRIET S., PA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"The noise is very minimal compared to the previous T&C van. It was difficult to tell that the vehicle was even on when starting it due to the great noise reduction. The climate control works great and the ride is pretty smooth. The seats are comfortable, but it can be somewhat difficult to get comfortable in the driver's seat."

SHANE L., IL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Loud road noise."

Anonymous, WA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Generally, the Auto Climate Control works well. Lately, however, on the hottest days, it will cool more effectively only when the car is moving, rather than at traffic lights or in heavy traffic."

The climate control system does its job effortlessly summer and winter. Noise level is moderate but could be better. Power handling and ride are very good for this type vehicle and better than some sportier cars I have driven,"

DOUGLAS S., NC (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Takes too long to cool the cabin on a hot day."

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"I paid MSRP for this vehicle originally, but since I paid cash, it was worth it compared to financing, and I consider it the best, most reliable car I've owned. I've had it since 2005, and I'm now in the process of doing repairs and maintenance on the HVAC system, engine timing belt, valve cover seals, etc. It's still cheaper to repair than replace. Sometime in the next year, I plan to replace it with a Honda CRV."

Stephen L., FL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"The worst part of this vehicle is still the PAX tire system. The tires are only available from Honda, are very costly and simply do not last past 25,000 - 30,00 IF you take care of them.. That's absurd in this day and age."

Anonymous, TX (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"No major mechanical repairs needed - just areas I would describe as general maintenance."

Anonymous, TN (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"There have not been any major troubles or repairs required with this vehicle."

Anonymous, OH (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"The highest compliment I can pay this car is to point out the fact that we have put on 336,000 miles and continue to drive it. It moves cargo and people in a degree of comfort and space that can't be matched by any other type of vehicle."

Jeffrey B., OH (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Excellent vehicle overall. I would highly recommend an Odyssey. The only problem has been front wheel bearings which I have had to replace one side or the other three times in 145,000 miles."

Don A., WA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Good service for warranty work."

Richard V., NV (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"quality vehicle with many tech systems to make driving safe and convenient."

Lester L., PA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Maintenance has been superior, but some seals embrittle when parked outside."

Anonymous, MD (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Bad: 1) At about 180,000 miles both automatic sliding back doors stopped working, they did not automatically open or close. They were expensive repairs. 2) At about 150 miles the A/C gas leaked because of corrosion at some of the connections. The entire A/C gas line needed to be replaced. This was very expensive."

"I got my 2005 Honda in 2005 and I have no idea what I'd be getting if I bought a used one now."

Anonymous, MD (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"The van has lasted long after the final payment was made. The quality engineering and interior are fantastic."

Keith E., WI (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Bought new in 2005 for full list price, this Odyssey EX has been the most reliable vehicle we have ever owned. When we consider trading it in, the conclusion is always "why?" That, to me, is true value."

"Amazing transportation value for grandparents with nine grandchildren. We bought the Odyssey for transporting triplet girls because it accommodated car seats so well. It has been a family workhorse for 13 years!"

Keith H., CA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"The 2005 Odyssey Touring Model has almost all the features available on the newest autos - exceptions being some of the features being added to autos in the past 2 or 3 years such as lane control, proximity speed controls and the like."

"This has been a great-performing, reliable car as well as good-looking and comfortable for the whole family. it's also extremely practical for transporting large groups of kids and carrying lots of cargo."

"For the size of the vehicle the mileage is good. In 155,000 miles there have only been a couple of small repairs."

Dan K., TX (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Overall, this has been a great vehicle for us. We had AC problems at about 60,000 miles and we had to have the whole system replaced and now that the vehicle is older, the back seats won't release to go into the well, an electronic slide doors on the side continue to malfunction, both of which are disappointing. However, overall, this vehicle has been comfortable to drive and extremely versatile and functional for a multitude of activities and vacations."

Cynthia M., CA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Has the room for the grand kids and our trips. Our base model does the job well."

John S., AZ (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"I used to travel over the southeast us 2-3 weeks at a time, I have had very few issues overall. power steering pump that was replaced under warranty, a back lift gate shock also replaced under warranty and around 140k miles I had a very small transmission leak that was fixed with a seal for about $100. I did this 3-4 times till i decided to get the problem totally corrected I had the Transmision replaced although there was no other issues with it only a very small leak. and while I had the tr..."

Raymond D., GA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Honda lied by way of withholding information when the vehicle was purchased. The PAX tire system was never explained that it is Honda Only for tires and repairs. The tires do not last 20,000 miles with good care. I do not trust Honda for anything and would avoid buying another Honda vehicle."

George K., TX (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"We purchased this car near the end of 2004, the first year of the model change. The Touring trim level was not worth the money. The PAX tire system has been a problem from the first year of ownership and we finally "dePAX'd" the vehicle 3 years ago. The cylinder cutout (3-3 ECO system) was initially great as it saved 15% on fuel when highway cruising, has become a nightmare. The heated memory seats are the only Touring trim feature that proved itself worthy over time. Had we to do it over,..."

"A car built to last with proper maintenance. You may pay more initially but the value comes through in the worry free lack of repairs. It runs almost as good 12 years on as it did new."

J M., ON (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"This car is tough on tires, brakes and power steering pumps. Otherwise, this van drives smooth and handles well for it's size. We have 198k on our van and have had to complete relatively minimal repairs for the amount of miles."

Steven C., CA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"We purchased our Odyssey for a good price (via Costco discount) and have generally been very satisfied with this vehicle. But ... non-routine maintenance has been rather expensive the last few years due to problems with engine mounts, power steering system, power sliding doors, various lubricant and coolant leaks, various suspension system repairs. (BTW, the car has always been serviced per Honda's recommendations.)"

B S., CA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"great bargain and people mover. 4 times went cross country twice Dallas/NYC and Twice Dallas North FLA."

John T., TX (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Survey '05 Odyssey owners and it seems every fourth person reports a minivan from hell. The rest of us share similar--if minor--complaints, but we remain completely pleased with the performance, reliability and overall accommodation of this people/stuff hauler. We stick to the Honda recommended service intervals and replace worn parts with the exact OEM part--no aftermarket parts for our vehicles; a fact that we attribute to the longevity of the vehicle. Styling-wise, we believe the '05 represen..."

Tim A., NC (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Paid full sticker, but that's what Odysseys were selling for (if not more) in 2005. But for 12 years and 115,000 miles it's been a good vehicle for our family, with minimal maintenance expense, and it still looks & drives good. To me that is value."

"This car has lasted us over 12 years and 200000 miles. Was definitely worth the money."

Karen W., FL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"We bought our Honda Odyssey new in 2005, against my husband's wishes (he prefers to buy used). Twelve years and nearly 150,000 miles later, routine maintenance is the only reason it's ever been in the shop. I learned from a police officer friend that cops are wary when they pull over old minivans, because they can be bought cheap and used for all sorts of shenanigans. However, they don't feel that way about old Honda Odysseys, because they're usually still being driven by their original own..."

"bought it new in 2004. Have replaced the radiator the starter motor and the rods that hold up the rear door."

Anonymous, VA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"This is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Repairs, other than scheduled maintenance, have been low. The condition of this 12 year old vehicle is such that it would not be difficult to get another 8 years out of it with minimal maintenance."

Anonymous, NJ (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"It has more than lived up t its promise. Over 200,00 miles and still drives well."

Anonymous, MD (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Its been a reliable car. The value was great. Plenty of room for passengers and storage"

Mark D., CA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"no major issues with the van; perform regular maintenance"

Markus K., TN (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Engine failed VERY prematurely. This POS Odyssey engine needs replacement after only 128,000 miles. The engine has had issue since before 30,000 miles. VERY disappointed in Honda. Will not buy another Honda again."

JEFF B., CO (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"My personal value has been great, as I inherited this car, but Honda charges way too much for the Odyssey, and my particular year's model ONLY came with the stupid run-flat Michelins. Those tires were garbage--very expensive to replace, and they had horrible tread wear. Supposed to last 3 years, never made it more than 2. I finally saved up and changed the whole thing over to regular tires AND a spare, and it cost the same as if I'd just bought 4 run-flats. That sort of "value" of forcing the cu"

ELIZABETH S., FL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"This minivan has 135,000 miles and still runs great."

KEITH M., IL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Expensive compared to domestics when new, but with regular maintenance I feel total cost of ownership has been superior and vehicle is still holding up well"

I T., ON (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Other than the rust on the rear left quarter panel its is ok. Have had problems with the left sliding door."

"11-years of solid and reliable service from this vehicle. Never been in the shop for a mechanical failure. Outstanding vehicle."

SCOTT C., IL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"The Michelin PAX run-flat tires wore out at 17K miles, even though air pressures were maintained weekly. It cost $1200 to have it de-PAX'd, but not until after it took a court settlement (class action) to refund some of the $2500 I had spent for replacement tires. This killed the value of the vehicle (the Touring trim line) and artificially reduced its resale value to below that of an LX with the same mileage. If I had to do it over, I would have gotten the EX-L trim line that had the same V6"

GARLAND M., NC (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Way over priced."

Anonymous, AZ (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Bought the Odyssey used based on CR's rating and have to say you nailed it on all accounts. Only drawback was a pre-existing oil leak that I payed Honda to fix, took care of 140K maintenance as well as belts for $1200, and the vehicle is still a good value for the price paid."

Anonymous, WA (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Bought used, 2 years old with fairly low mileage, for a reasonable price. Now have gone 200,000 miles with few mechanical repairs required. Don't particularly care for the cost and frequency of Michelin PAX tire replacement, but those tires have enabled my wife to drive home safely with 'flats' a few times."

Anonymous, MO (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"No major issues for 11 years - primarily just expected maintenance. Leather seats have held up fairly well with rough use (2 boys, camping, carpools, etc)"

CHRISTINA T., IL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Very few repairs - I have always had maintenance done at my dealer"

DAVID P., TX (2005 Honda Odyssey)

BRIAN G., BC (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"With regular routine maintenance, I have avoided any unusual maintenance or reliability problems in 148,500 miles. The car just keeps going and going, because I take good care of it."

Anonymous, MD (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"The car has been very, very nice to drive. If there were a luxury minivan, I think that it would be the Honda Odyssey (back in 2005). The other brands did not compare and Honda was a step ahead and all aspects."

What Owners Say

"It appears much less like a box and more stylish than the '99 models of other vehicles. Being a used vehicle it has some scratches, dings and rust, but overall it looks good."

SHANE L., IL (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Styling is very good for the interior and exterior for that model year."

DOUGLAS S., NC (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"I like the styling. Much more than the current 'lightning bolt' design. Waiting to see what the next generation looks like."

GRANT H., ON (2005 Honda Odyssey)

"Overall, the line are pleasant to the eye. The sliding door on both sides is nice and have given no issues for the 11 years since new. Since work fine. The headlight lens are geting cloudy however."
