Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"The Pilot has plenty of power and is easy ri drive."

Kenneth J., OR (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Slow and floaty, like a boat. Huge dead spot on center steering. Lots of body roll."

Alexander M., OH (2003 Honda Pilot)

"As it has aged, the road noise is getting a bit loader, but it still handles and accelerates as well as it did when we bought it 12 years ago. Living in Colorado, there are a lot of hills, everywhere. This car does not care if it is flat, up hill, down hill, mountains, or on the plains, it just goes. You can be cruising up a mountain pass and there is still enough power left to pass other cars when you need it."

Christian D., CO (2003 Honda Pilot)

"It needs more power. Handling is not too great. The overdrive transmission is annoying on the highway as it shifts up and down a lot."

Anonymous, TX (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The steering is quick and responsive and has a very small turning radius for a vehicle of this size."

Anonymous, NE (2003 Honda Pilot)

"LOVE my Honda Pilot. Only complaints are the motor mounts had to be replaced, a fairly expensive job that Honda split with me. All door lock actuators had to be replaced. The radio has not held up in that it doesn't get very good reception. All problems surfaced AFTER my 7 year extended warranty had expired. Considering the current age and condition of the Pilot, I keep it well maintained - I am very satisfied overall."

C C., MD (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The 2003 Honda Pilot accelerates fine for as large a vehicle as it is. It doesn't have a tight suspension so cornering at higher speeds makes it obvious how top heavy the vehicle is. The pilot also has a front end vibration that seems to be fairly common based on online research."

Josh P., IN (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Te seating is very comfortable & visibility is excellent. The relatively wide wheel base keeps it stable in turns. The acceleration is quite sufficient when needing to pass."

Stephen B., MD (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The driving experience of the Pilot is unexciting; however, it performs exceptionally well in Colorado's mountains and snowy winters."

Anonymous, CO (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Good solid car. Fell VERY safe driving this. It is responsive in avoidance maneuvers, excellent braking and acceleration, ABS and traction control work great. My favorite vehicle to drive."

Anonymous, MD (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Turning radius is the best in class. I've never been in a situation where it cannot out turn anything in a parking lot."

DELBERT L., CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"It is a little sluggish during acceleration."

JOHN H., FL (2003 Honda Pilot)

"good handling, and comfort, grat to have the 3rd seat when we have company"

Anonymous, MT (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The best. Easy to drive, handles very well considering its weight. Really tight turning circle (almost the same as our Civic). Acceleration is very good, even with a load. Great driver's car for long trips."

ROBERT A., CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"I am 5'1" and the care is huge and so comfortable. It has plenty of zip for Houston freeways and handles beautifully. Seats are very comfortable. Only bad item is gas mileage is not good, 17 mpg."

Anonymous, TX (2003 Honda Pilot)

"I can feel safe in adverse weather condition. It, too, has the power that I need."

Anonymous, WA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Handling is great and because it is a V6 so is the acceleration. On two lane or multiple lane highways I can pass other vehicles quite quickly and safely."

Anonymous, ON (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Very reliable and good ride. Lots of space"

Anonymous, NY (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Car is consistently reliable, quiet"

Anonymous, CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Very comfortable seats and ride."

Anonymous, CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"i dont see reasonable reason for exterior noise interfeering with radio listeninng"

Anonymous, PR (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Ride a bit soft. Boat like for an SUV"

L T., NY (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The Piiot is very comfortable and easy to drive but alot of 'things' get caught in the center console. I have to keep something in my car to refrieve things that fall down the center console.."

Kenneth J., OR (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The front seats are very comfortable , middle seat moderately so. A lot of road noise radiates into the cabin on the highway."

Anonymous, TX (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Road and wind noise too high. Have to turn up radio to hear. Seats OK but need more support."

Joel A., AL (2003 Honda Pilot)

"very quiet smooth ride seats adjust and have proven more than adequate on long trips"

Kay O., SC (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Very noisy and difficult to listen to the radio and to talk with passengers. Driving comfort is otherwise great."

Joseph P., IA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The noise bader me now"

James H., CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Climate control has kept the cabin comfortable for 13+ years-east to control. (Much better temp control than my friend's 2011 BMW!). Seats are very comfortable, easy to adjust -I travel a lot for my work and have always loved driving this car!"

IRENE M., MS (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The third row seats are not designed for adults. At most they are good for small children. I understand that they are better in later models. The rest of the car is comfortable"

PAMLYN A., MA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"As noted with the CRV, I have very thin thighs that require support for longer drives. Somehow, the Pilot offers a touch more tilt in the driver's seat that offers me more comfort than most SUVs on the market - I tried several at a recent Auto Show."

Anonymous, ON (2003 Honda Pilot)

"bought because the rise comfort was better than Toyota it is still better than my sisters 2014 Toyota highlander hybred"

STEVE M., WA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The cloth/velveteen upholstery has held up very well for 13 years. It is still quite comfortable and plush."

RAMONA G., CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"cabin noise is excessive"

Anonymous, TX (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The seats are quite comfortable. The comfort issue I have is with air/wind buffeting when the rear windows are down. Also the A pillar is a huge blind spot for turns, especially left hand turns."

PHILLIP J., GA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"It is the first year for the Pilot, but it does have some road noise. Otherwise it's excellent"

Anonymous, CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The comfort of the Pilot is great. When I looked at the 2016 model I decided to keep the 2003 I have. The driver's seat was a deal breaker. It was too short, front to back, too narrow, and the leather in the EX-L model was hard and rough."

Anonymous, SC (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The road noise is fairly loud."

MICHAEL Y., PA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Front seats are very comfortable. Back seats are adequate. Road noise is significant."

Anonymous, CO (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The seats have broken down and are no longer comfortable."

Anonymous, OR (2003 Honda Pilot)

Anonymous, GA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Very comfortable driving position. Climate control works really well. Ride height is great for seeing what's ahead."

DELBERT L., CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Driver seat frame has broken twice, which is a major safety issue."

Anonymous, NY (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Best air conditioner ever"

Anonymous, WA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Reliability 180000 miles and no problems just maintainence"

CHARLES F., NJ (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Seats, climate control, and ride are all comfortable, but the road noise is excessive"

Anonymous, MA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The seats are not that comfortable in the upper back and the steering wheel is to far from the seat."

JOHN H., FL (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Over the past few years have trouble with the climate control for controlling temp in vehicle."

MELISSA E., NC (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Front seats are very comfortable. Middle seats are hard with no lower back support. The third row seats are useless for anyone over 4' as there is no leg room."

DENISE A., CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"This is an old vehicle & I don't expect it to have up to date features, but the biggest problem to me has always been the interior noise factor when driving at speeds over 35-40 mph. Other wise, we love it and we will probably keep it till it dies."

Anonymous, ME (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The rear climate control and vent quit working not long after purchasing this Pilot used."

KIM J., MO (2003 Honda Pilot)

"consistent good performance, low maintenance"

Anonymous, CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"very loud when traveling on interstates, this would probably be a factor if purchasing again."

JEFF H., NE (2003 Honda Pilot)

"There is road noise."

Anonymous, CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Vey nice to drive even after 130K miles. Climate controls breakage have been an on going issue since day 1. Seats are very confortable"

ALBERTO B., FL (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Road noise"

Anonymous, NC (2003 Honda Pilot)

"It's a noisy ride on the highway and you have to speak louder to be heard."

Anonymous, LA (2003 Honda Pilot)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Prize is right when I bought it first"

James H., CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"good (avereage)"

Anonymous, PR (2003 Honda Pilot)

"This car has been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. The look is still relevant, and it drives great. We will own it until it can't go anymore."

Anonymous, OR (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Has been great in the Colorado mountains and snowy winters. Very, very reliable. Inexpensive to maintain. We're at 190,000 miles and going strong!"

Anonymous, CO (2003 Honda Pilot)

"relatively inexpensive to service had to replace the rear differential and thought this should not have happened when it did when the vehicle was middle aged"

Kay O., SC (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Purchased new in 2003. No major issues until it reached 200,000 miles. Replaced transmission, exhaust manifold and repaired a freon leak in the A/C. Starting to now have problem with airbag sensor and electric door locks. It is 14 yrs old and just turned 200,000 miles so I cannot complain and will continue to drive it."

David K., AE (2003 Honda Pilot)

"This car just lasts and last. At 14 years old it still runs great and is incredibly reliable and still looks great for its age. We have definitely gotten great value out of it and I expect we'll have it several more years."

Shane B., NC (2003 Honda Pilot)

"15 years in, 205000 miles later, no problems. Extremely reliable in our winter driving in Iowa and northern Minnesota. A lot of gravel road driving with great handling in all seasons. No major mechanical problems have arisen."

Joseph P., IA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"It doesn't break"

Anonymous, NM (2003 Honda Pilot)

"We have gotten our moneys worth out of this car, it's performed great and has had no problems, just normal maintenance except for the rear wiper motor needed replacing."

Anonymous, MT (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Very dependable and long lasting"

IGNACIO P., PA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"My 2003 Pilot EX-L was fully loaded-leather seats, tinted windows, CD player and was much better priced than any other comparable SUV at the time. With 224600 miles on it and thankfully, relatively few repairs, I hope we have another several years of traveling the state together!"

IRENE M., MS (2003 Honda Pilot)

"I bought my Honda Pilot used and it had around 50,000 miles on it. I have put around 160,000 miles on it and it has given me almost no trouble. Basically I have paid about 16 cents per mile for the car and other than routine maintenance, I have less than $300 in repairs."

DAWN E., NC (2003 Honda Pilot)

"very satisfied"

Anonymous, GA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"It's been a great vehicle. Very versatile."

Anonymous, CA (2003 Honda Pilot)

Anonymous, WA (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The Pilot has been our workhorse. It has required no significant major repairs except the normal wear and tear items such as shocks, brakes, timing belt etc. It does drive more like a truck than a sedan but considering its age and mileage (>230K) who can complain."

Anonymous, NJ (2003 Honda Pilot)

"Purchased used w ~130000 at 190000 and have had minimal problems with wear or mechanics."

Anonymous, CT (2003 Honda Pilot)

"The Honda Pilot series of cars is the best ride, most quiet, and most reliable vehicle I have ever owned (22 cars). I truly expect it to last to 300000 miles with no maintenance other than tires, lube, brakes, and filters. It is a dream car !!!"

MA P., TX (2003 Honda Pilot)

Anonymous, NM (2003 Honda Pilot)
