Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"When driving around sharp curves there is a sensation of the car tipping. Other cars I have driven at the same speed and same curves don't feel like that."

Anonymous, WA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"EXTREMELY sure-footed. For a three-row SUV, very nimble, never loses traction in on-road conditions. Very stable and predictable."

JEFFREY F., CA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Acceleration and handling good, feels solid and sure. Good turning radius. Live in mountainous area with ice/snow in winter, and little if any problems with traction control. Recently (around 180,000 miles) despite having it in the dealer for timing belt & water pump replacement for $1,000, had to return due to new onset rough idle, had to replace series of sensors for an additional $900, followed by new drive train vibration; unresolved currently."

LINDA-DANNY M., NC (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Good acceleration, smooth, drive like a sedan"

JAMES V., CA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"surprisingly swift acceleration. still have to pay attention on curves. seems a little squirrelly on curves,"

MARK C., VT (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Even after 12 years, my Pilot accelerates well from a dead stop."

JAMES K., IL (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Cornering is too soft, it rolls around corners."

Anonymous, MI (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Drives alike a dream. My favorite vehicle to drive."

Anonymous, GA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"I have two four wheel drive vehicles and they do not perform as well in the snow going down the road. Off road is different, but I don't go there with my pilot ubless I get caught."

Anonymous, UT (2004 Honda Pilot)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Fits like a glove..."

JOSEPH S., NY (2004 Honda Pilot)

"the best driving experience I have ever had--seats are beyond comfortable and long trips are never a problem; lots of cargo and head space and a big car I feel totally safe in."

Anonymous, MA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"too much road and wind noise"

Anonymous, CA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Noise level is very loud when driving on freeway."

Anonymous, WA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Seats are comfortable, but would like less road noise"

JOHN P., TX (2004 Honda Pilot)

"good overall"

Anonymous, MD (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Loud road noise"

Anonymous, CA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Would like the noise to be reduced more."

Anonymous, MD (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Too firm but excellent wear"

ULOUS S., LA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Not enough sound insulation against road/tire noise. It gets very loud on the highway."

MICHAEL M., CO (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Seats are not as comfortable as our other vehicle, a Toyota Highlander; the Pilot is more like a truck. However the Pilot has served us very well. That said, I prefer the Highlander. Time will tell if it proves to be as reliable with no repairs like the Pilot."

Anonymous, CT (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Drivers seat is breaking down on the door side and the trim around the base is cracked and falling apart."

LOUIS E., CA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Seat comfort, easy for entry, over all ...like car"

Anonymous, SC (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Terrible Road Noise and Harsh Ride"

TRACY S., OH (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Road Noise"

LIU Y., CA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"ride,comfort,style"

Anonymous, MN (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Driver seat cushion broke years ago. Uncomfortable for traveling. Unsightly upon opening door. Cruise control undependable. Either it will work or it won't - so this affects my discomfort from broken seat in traveling distances 375 miles each way on a regular basis (previous five years). Also fyi, Ignition key had to be replaced. It would get stuck. CD player had to be replaced early on. All else fine. Warm seats great in winter"

BLAIR S., LA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"The automatic climate control system often blows cool air when the outside temperature is cold."

Anonymous, MD (2004 Honda Pilot)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Had it for 12 years, and it has 225,000 miles. Nothing ever seems to go wrong, I just do the maintenance and it keeps on going."

LINN H., CO (2004 Honda Pilot)

"A really fabulous value. The Pilot has been EXTREMELY dependable, durable, utilitarian and sure-footed. This vehicle now has almost 250,000 miles and still functions just as it did when we purchased it new."

JEFFREY F., CA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"holds its value. it was well maintained prior to my purchase. rust free."

MARK C., VT (2004 Honda Pilot)

"This has been a workhorse of a vehicle that has had very few issues in that twelve years we've owned it and still looks and runs good."

ELAINE O., GA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Had it for 12 years and run great"

Anonymous, ME (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Reliable car after 12 years of driving. All repairs and maintenance done by the dealer where car was purchased new. A lot of room for transporting goods and materials. Handles well in a variety of New England driving conditions."

LARRY D., MA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Still has a good sales value and have not had any repairs needed except normal maint."

Anonymous, NY (2004 Honda Pilot)

"ZERO repairs in approx 240K .. that says it.. I do maintain it to a tee and do my own work....BUT there have been NO major repairs needed in over 12 years and 240K miles.. that is value.."

JOSEPH S., NY (2004 Honda Pilot)

"It has had very little repairs that were not routine. We bought this SUV in 2006. We have traveled in it and we were very comfortable. It has been a very good car."

Anonymous, SC (2004 Honda Pilot)

"Paid $10k+ for it in 2011 w/ 140k+ mi. Except for having to replace transmission vehicle has served our family quite well. We look forward to many more years/miles in the future."

Anonymous, GA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"very low repairs"

Anonymous, MI (2004 Honda Pilot)

"It was a decent buy for the money but the high pressure sales techniques used were irritating to say the least. They also continued and eventually forced us to provide financing information after being told several times we were paying cash. Their justification for the financing data requirement was the "Patriot Act"."

Anonymous, CA (2004 Honda Pilot)

"The 2004 Honda Pilot is a workhorse. I have approximately 180,000 miles and have never had any serious problems with the car. It rides and handles very well for an SUV and has a ton of cargo room."

WILLIAM F., MD (2004 Honda Pilot)

"I have 233,500 miles on it and it drives very well."

Anonymous, SC (2004 Honda Pilot)

"I have 265,000 miles and the Pilot drives like the first day I got it. It's reliable and never had any major issues. Or minor."

JEFFREY C., NY (2004 Honda Pilot)

"When you buy a car and get 12 years and 150000 miles of almost trouble free driving you have a great value."

TOM B., TX (2004 Honda Pilot)

"2004 Honda Pilot I feel is an exceptional value. It runs great and uses no oil, the transmission or drive train at 130,000 makes a whining noise sometimes. It currently has a recall on it for several things which have not been repaired as the owner has not taken it in for this service."

Anonymous, MI (2004 Honda Pilot)
