Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"It could be peppier. I understand it's a large vehicle, but a little more torque off the line would be appreciated."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Smooth drive, can be slow to respond in economy mode"

Anonymous, ID (2018 Honda Pilot)

"My Pilot has the six speed transmission. Acceleration has improved over previous Pilot years. Video can show passenger side blind spot. But the best improvement is overall gas mileage. On road travel can consistently achieve 27mpg."

Anonymous, MT (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Although the CR report of the Pilot being ungainly, we sure don't agree. Our Piot has gone over bumpy pavement and rocky off road trails and has been put to the test of windy rural roads at 60+ mph and the handling and hugging to the road is above our expectations."

Robert C., CA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Drives great with our economy mode on. But annoying in economy. Flat roads are fine but driving through mountains the economy gas mileage was worse for us than not using economy and it couldn’t maintain speed on cruise. We saw drops of 5 mph or more."

Anonymous, VA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"We love the adaptive cruise control and lane maintenance system. While the car doesn’t drive itself, the slight help with lane maintenance makes driving safer and more relaxed."

Bill H., AR (2018 Honda Pilot)

"The Touring model comes with a 9 speed transmission which when it is enabled is not smooth."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Would like option to DISABLE Auto Idle Stop feature, rather than have to manually turn it off every time auto is started."

Anonymous, CT (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Very quiet and smooth on all surfaces. Good acceleration with eco mode turned off. Easy to drive."

Anonymous, IA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"The Pilot handles very well. Its electronic warning systems (lane departure and vehicle collision warning) enhance the driving experience. It can accelerate well if the accelerator is used aggressively."

Anonymous, TN (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Good acceleration and passing. Transmission is very responsive"

Anonymous, SD (2018 Honda Pilot)

"The handling is execellent."

Anonymous, AZ (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Drives is fantastic. Acceleration is seamless and engine power more than sufficient."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Very pleased with driving and acceleration. Mileage is extraordinary for the acceleration and cruising speeds. Safety systems, adaptive cruise control, lane departure, backup warning and camera make it super safe vehicle to operate."

Steve H., ID (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Smooth driving, especially cornering. Great acerleration. Larger than old car but drives just as well."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Very responsive, smooth, agile"

Anonymous, MN (2018 Honda Pilot)

"We were warned by CR about the 9 speed transmission and we should have listened. It's jerky at times, gear ratios seem wrong, and it seems to slip on up shifts."

Anonymous, TN (2018 Honda Pilot)

"It accelerates as fast as I need to. The pilot turns very will in tight situations."

Rita A., FL (2018 Honda Pilot)

"GOOD ACCELERATION AND 24 MILES PER GALLON"

Mike O., FL (2018 Honda Pilot)

"simple accelerating, noiseless, easy choices on steering wheel controls or buttons on consule. especialy for shifting."

W M., NJ (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Smooth, strong engine does not sound coarse under heavy acceleration. Handling is fair, but this is a large vehicle, not a sports car. Never feels under powered. Transmission operates smoothly."

Doug B., CA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Love the push button transmission but when driving under 25 MPH it's not a smooth acceleration."

Anonymous, SC (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Handles great acceleration is good"

Anonymous, MD (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Cruise control does not respond well when going up a hill. Speed will drop up to 5 kph before accelerating back to the preset speed. Adaptive cruise control does not slow down to the speed of the vehicle in front of you until the vehicle is too close. It then does a great job following at the preset distance but would be better if the cruise would slow the vehicle sooner so your don't get so far withing the preset distance. The crash detection system give false positives when you are approaching a corner and there is an oncoming vehicle. I guess more development in detecting oncoming corners is needed. The automatic engine stop when vehicle stopped is a real pain. When I am turning left against oncoming traffic I want my vehicle to accelerate as soon as I press on the accelerator pedal. Having to turn this feature off every tie I start the care is a pain."

Randy G., ON (2018 Honda Pilot)

"I love how it drives and the pick up of the engine. The eco mode is nice around the city, then it’s nice to turn it off and have more power to merge on the highway. So far I am very confident in the cars handeling, it does not float around or feel vague to me as mentioned in the consumer reports driving experience."

Brian H., PA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Good acceleration."

Brian S., VA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Only owned vehicle for about two months. Still learning about vehicle."

Robert B., AL (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Very nimble and quick in all sorts of traffic conditions"

Bruce C., CA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"The machine has power when I need it and sticks to the road better than any previous Pilot I've had."

Daniel D., OH (2018 Honda Pilot)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"great fit and love venilated seats"

Anonymous, AL (2018 Honda Pilot)

"The suspension noise is terrible over very small irregularities. I first thought the spare tire was hanging loose under the car. Sounds like someone banging the bottom of the car with a rubber mallet. Never had such from any other car, ever! Have experienced this in other Pilots of same model run. Would caution interested buyers to be careful selecting this car."

John H., SC (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Starting to get wind noise from driver door/window. Had the same issue with my 2014 Pilot. I thought they had fixed the issue but the serenity did not last."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Pilot)

"We went into buying car looking at the CRV, but when we sat in the PIlot, the seats were way more comfy. We plan on using this car for some longer car trips, so this pushed us to upgrade to the Pilot. Car is very quiet and smooth. And our kids, who generally get very car sick, have not had any issues in this car."

Ashley G., NY (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Extremely comfortable! Love the comfort!"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Drivers side seat belt is noticeably shorter due in part to where it is mounted."

Anonymous, IL (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Front seats have individual arm rests. Second row seats can be moved forward or backward to give more room for occupants or more room for cargo space/third row occupants. Moving noise level is noticeably quieter than previous Pilot years."

Anonymous, MT (2018 Honda Pilot)

"road noise, tire noise"

Anonymous, ME (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Quiet, supportive, smooth."

Anonymous, MN (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Seats are so comfortable for this 5'11" athlete. In my opinion, these seats are best in class- and we shopped nearly everything in the category!"

Anonymous, MA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"It's very similar to the other Pilots I've owned and it will replace the 2014 Pilot as the car we travel in starting next month."

Bruce W., WV (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Comfortable seats in front and middle rows. Smooth and quiet ride."

Brian S., VA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"The car is very comfortable for both drivers, one is 5’ and the other is 6’5‿. It is quiet and smooth going over bumps and rough road."

Anonymous, WA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Overall the ride is great. I find the lumbar support is lacking on long rides."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Only issue is wind noise on passenger side. It’s intermittent, so we believe there is a problem with weather stripping around doors on that side. Seats and tide we are happy with."

Anonymous, NC (2018 Honda Pilot)

"much quiter than the prev. crv. did not like prev crv noise when rapidly accelerating. or the delay from brake to gas pedal."

W M., NJ (2018 Honda Pilot)

"BAD The passenger seat will not adjust up or down, and because of this, my wife’s feet do not touch the floor. She is very unhappy. BAD This car is so noisy inside from road noise, it is hard to carry on a conversation. BAD The ride is stiff and rough."

Manuel B., OK (2018 Honda Pilot)

"nOISE IS SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN 2011 PILOT"

Mike O., FL (2018 Honda Pilot)

"One the most comfortable rehicles I have owned."

Anonymous, AZ (2018 Honda Pilot)

"The Pilot is the most comfortable vehicle I have owned. It is quiet, smooth and the seats are very comfortable."

Anonymous, TN (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Seats are very comfortable, seat controls are easy to use. Noise level is fairly good, A/C works well."

Douglas L., CA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Very comfortable and we like the electronic safety features."

Anonymous, NE (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Delighted with comfort of seats arm rests for long rides. Leather interior has bucket seats in middle row as well as front row. Has seat warmers for winter cold weather, and air conditioning in the summer."

Steve H., ID (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Rids great"

Charles W., PA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"The auto engine idle stop is very annoying and distracting. The engine stops a lot, and it makes the car do a double take and delay in starting. This also can be dangerous when you try to go and it takes more than 1 sec to move."

Ryan L., NC (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Seats are large and comfortable for me at 6’5‿. Very roomy interior. Good ride, especially on freeway. Quiet."

Doug B., CA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"It is an excellent "road" vehicle. Comfortable with a very good driving position. Easy to drive on long trips."

Tim B., VA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"This Pilot rides extremely rough, possible faulty shocks. We intend to take it to our dealer with this complaint."

Anonymous, TN (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Suspension maintains a very controlled, comfortable ride while also providing a sporty feel"

Joshua F., FL (2018 Honda Pilot)

"just great"

Anonymous, NH (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Seats are very comfortable with the heating and cooling. The second row seat backs adjust somewhat but do not recline."

Michelle L., MO (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Very quiet rides Great needs better arm rest"

Anonymous, MD (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Seats uncomfortable"

Michael-Judy W., NC (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Third row seats have plenty of headroom and adequate legroom for someone 6’ tall. The only issue is the “depth‿ of the floor. Feels like your knees are too high. Fine for short trips ( less than 2 hours) much more than that you’d want something else."

Anonymous, VA (2018 Honda Pilot)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"We are still realizing the awesome safety and infotainment features on top of the comfort, handling and acceleration that just amazes us compared to our last Pilot - 2005 model."

Robert C., CA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"We have owned Honda's since 1980 and they keep getting better. Excellent vehicle so far."

Anonymous, NE (2018 Honda Pilot)

"I moved from Rav to Pilot mainly for the reason of needing a 7 passenger car. The Pilot offered the best value, ride, package, trim for the cost than the Highlander."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Fully loaded, it was equal to the Toyota Highlander in functionality, comfort and value. The difference was the\at Honda Financial offered a better lease package."

Tim B., VA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"I shopped for months across all brands for an SUV. I kept going back to Honda for the superior quality and the second-to-none fit and finish. I feel safe and confident in my Honda."

Anonymous, MA (2018 Honda Pilot)

"I expect it will be the same in reliability as the other Honda's I've owned. So far gas mileage on this car have been outstanding... I got just over 29 mpg on a recent 4 hr trip."

Bruce W., WV (2018 Honda Pilot)

"great price on trade in"

Anonymous, AL (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Looked at Highlander first was difficult to view screen with polarized sunglasses. Pilot was several thousand cheaper and screen easy to see and navigate. I got Apple and google car play. Loved the 3 rows, size, quiet, very comfortable seats and ride. And cheaper."

Theresa M., TX (2018 Honda Pilot)

"Great added safety features available for a reasonable cost. well designed interior is very spacious."

Anonymous, MN (2018 Honda Pilot)

"I thought it was a little expensive."

Anonymous, IL (2018 Honda Pilot)

"For a vehicle cost I consider average, I have an 8 passenger, all wheel drive SUV that is very comfortable and quiet, yet can go anywhere."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Pilot)

"We have a touring edition. For all the included features it seemed to one of the best values if you can get over the bulbous looks."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Honda Pilot)
