Riding and handling like a good sedan, the Ridgeline rewrites the book on pickups. It's a truck that isn't a hardship to drive. Further, it has many unique innovations, including a tailgate that opens vertically or horizontally and a lockable trunk. The roomy cab is nicely detailed and easy to access, with comfortable seats. While not designed for serious off-roading, Ridgeline also scaled our demanding rock hill.

Performance
Acceleration Acceleration Acceleration tests are conducted on a smooth, flat pavement straightaway at the track. Time, speed, and distance measurements are taken with a precise GPS-based device that’s hooked to a data-logging computer.
0 to 60 mph 0 to 60 mph (sec.) The time in seconds that a vehicle takes to reach 60 mph from a standstill with the engine idling.
Transmission Transmission Transmission performance is determined by shifting smoothness, response, shifter action, and clutch actuation for manual transmissions.
Fuel Economy Fuel Economy We perform our own fuel-economy tests, independent of the government's often-quoted EPA figures and the manufacturers' claims. Using a precise fuel-flow measuring device spliced into the fuel line, we run two separate circuits to represent city and highway consumption.
CR's Overall Mileage CR's Overall Mileage CR's overall mileage is a composite of measured fuel usage on a prescribed city course and highway cruising; and CR's 150-mile test trip of mixed driving, if tested. In recent road tests, we've discontinued the 150-mile trip test.
CR's City Mileage CR's City Mileage Measured fuel usage on a prescribed city course.
CR's Highway Mileage CR's Highway Mileage Measured fuel usage on a prescribed highway cruising.
Annual Fuel Cost Annual Fuel Cost The cost and amount of fuel used in 12,000 miles and is calculated from CR's overall mileage.
Braking Braking The braking rating is a composite of wet and dry stopping distances and pedal feel. Braking distance is from 60 mph, with no wheels locked.
Emergency Handling Emergency Handling Several factors go into the rating, including the avoidance maneuver speed and confidence, as well as how the vehicle behaves when pushed to its limit.

Owner Reports

Worse Better
Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems.

Towing capacity is a relatively modest 5,000 pounds and the bed is relatively short. At 15 mpg overall, fuel economy only matches that of some full-sized trucks. And even though Honda built this first-generation Ridgeline from 2006-2014, updates during that time were few and far between, so don't expect modern electronic features in the latest Ridgelines.

Scheduled timing belt replacement

"New vehicles should not have to have the timing belt changed. The old cars dating back to the 50's 60's, and 70's did not have this done. This is over a thoUSnd dollar job"

Gary M., NJ (2007 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)

"due to research on common engine problems on ridgelines, i was adviced to change the whole timing belt system at 70000 miles to avoid major problems"

Nelson B., FL (2007 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
Timing belt or chain

"recommended replacement of timing belt. at 105k miles or 7 years. I only had 68000 miles. but 11 years old . the cost was over $1000.The old belt waterpump and pulley all looked fine. I wished the truck had a timingchain like most other cars and trucks have. I miss that $1ooo"

Anonymous, IN (2007 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)

"Timing belt, oil pump and engine mounts all required replacement at the same inspection. Total cost exceeded $4,000"

Joell R., CA (2007 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"Normal routine timing belt, tensioner, and water pump replacement was done at 200,000 miles. It was previously done at 100,000 miles."

"Rear main bearing seal. Expensive to repair."

Anonymous, OH (2007 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)

"The oil pump seals to the engine block with a small O-ring that flattens and eventually leaks. It is a big repair for a $2 part. I did it finally when the timing belt needed replacement, since all those parts must come off to get to the oil pump."

John L., AZ (2007 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"Leaking oil pump seal. Repaired for cost of $1000. This was still good since I paid only $9000 for the vehicle -- well below Blue Book"

Anonymous, OR (2007 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)
