Riding and handling like a good sedan, the Ridgeline rewrites the book on pickups. It's a truck that isn't a hardship to drive. Further, it has many unique innovations, including a tailgate that opens vertically or horizontally and a lockable trunk. The roomy cab is nicely detailed and easy to access, with comfortable seats. While not designed for serious off-roading, Ridgeline also scaled our demanding rock hill.

George B., NH (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)

"These tend to build up rust and thus do not move in/out fully. This causes excess brake pad wear."

Anonymous, ON (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)

"Sticking brake caliper"

Anonymous, MN (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)
Normal routine brake wear

"2ND SET OF BRAKES THAT HAVE BEEN INSTALLED. ONLY 35000 MILES"

Steve C., NJ (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"Given that the truck is not used for heavy loads or wear and tear, the brake pads tend to wear at an extremely fast rate even though the truck has a low annual mileage."

Anonymous, ON (2008 Honda Ridgeline 3.5-L V6)

"With 78,000 miles on this truck I have already had to have two $1,000+ brake jobs as the result of frozen calipers"

Anonymous, WI (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"rear brakes wore out much faster than front"

Anonymous, MN (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"I took the vehicle in for routine brake service. A couple of days later, while driving on the expressway, the brakes failed due to a mechanical failure in the front left wheel causing the brake fluid to gasify and cause the total loss of brakes while operating at 110 kph in heavy traffic. The failure occurred as a result of something letting go in the breaking mechanism while driving at speed. The brakes were NOT in use at the time of the failure. The vehicle started to jump about and when the brakes were applied, the pedal went to the floor."

Anonymous, ON (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)
Pulsation or vibration

"Again this is the result of heating up Rotors. They warp and cause pulsing feel. I replaced the rotors and that solved it. The Ridgeline has been very reliable otherwise."

Anonymous, MA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
Regular brake failure

"Even with annual brake maintenance, parts continually seize up and require extra work and replacement."

Anonymous, ON (2008 Honda Ridgeline 3.5-L V6)
Rotors

"rusting rotors"

Bruce G., MN (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)

"rotors went bad"

Anonymous, WI (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"I believe Rotors are not made thick enough, and get hot and warp. This is done to lower weight of the vehicle, to increase fuel economy... but I have replaced the rotors twice in the front brakes, due to warping. I dont drive a lot, but you cant turn the rotors, to fix them. Just have to buy new ones. Overall the braking is good. I bought heavy duty brakes this time (for towing, even though I rarely tow anything.) hoping this helps extend life."

Anonymous, MA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
Squeaking

"Just need to replace brakes"

Anonymous, MT (2008 Honda Ridgeline Unsure 3.5-L V6)

"power steering line failed"

Anonymous, MA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"The entire power steering line had to be replaced to stop the power steering fluid from leaking. I have owned all sorts of vehicles since 1970 (over 30 ) and I have never experienced this problem before"

Sam S., MA (2008 Honda Ridgeline 3.5-L V6)

"has been repaired three times, all three unsuccessful"

Anonymous, (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, WV (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)
Power steering pumps and hoses

"The power steering pump was replaced by the Honda Dealer. Two months later the Ridgeline was returned to the Dealer for an oil change and routine maintenance. The Dealer stated the power steering fluid was dirty and should be replaced. This means the pump was replaced two months earlier and had been operating on dirty fluid!!! I have not since returned to this Dealer"

Anonymous, OK (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"Power steering pump whines frequently. Changing the fluid helped, but Honda said there wasn't a problem Still whines though off and on"

"Power steering became very noisy. Pump replaced by dealer."

Anonymous, FL (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"the high pressure hose was leaking. I manage to fix it myself but it would be difficult for most people."

Anonymous, ON (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)

"Power steering O-rings leaked, causing the power steering to make a lot of noise. O-rings were replaced and it works fine now; this is a common Honda power steering issue for many of the late aught vehicles."

Rafiq A., AL (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)
Shocks or struts

"I don't know how long they should last, so can't judge whether this is normal wear and tear. They are just worn out and leaking."

Anonymous, TX (2008 Honda Ridgeline 3.5-L V6)

"when ever i go over bumps in the road a noise comes from the front end, i didn't have it checked out yet . don't know if it the struts of tie rod ends or what."

Dennis K., WI (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)
Springs or torsion bars

"Vehicle began riding very rough even over small bumps. New tires and alignment didn't fix. We had to replace parts. When finished, the suspension was all new but the Ridgeline does not ride as smoothly as it had. I had the new suspension checked three times at two different places and they said everything was as it should be. It still isn't as smooth as it had been."

Anonymous, TX (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)

"Sway bar bushing failed, made a funny sound. Dealer repaired for about 400 dollars. 12 years old, it's hard to complain!"

Anonymous, MI (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"The away bar links were worn out, causing a clunking front end noise. I replaced both, and the problem was resolved."

Anonymous, TX (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"leakage that will eventually require replacement of the rack and pinion system."

Anonymous, WA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
Tie rods

"Both front axles required replacement. Ceritified mechanic reported that struts, bushings, had been mis-installed allowing axles to wear unevenly"

Richard T., VA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)

"The part that broke (and actually fell off the car) was the stabilizer bar. Easy fix, but rendered the car undriveable until fixed."

Anonymous, (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

What Owners Say

A/C compressor

"leaky hose"

Paul J., PA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"I had a slow leak the last three years. Instead of bringing it in I recharged my self each year. Well, this past year I over charged it and destroyed the compressor. Per mechanic. lol"

Anonymous, RI (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"System read as overcharged and compressor needed to be replaced"

Anonymous, FL (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"Seems early in vehicles life to have A/C issues. The vehicle was certified and had lots of little issues with a vehicle that should have left the lot in better condition"

Anonymous, WI (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"Just a slow freon leak so freon needs to be replaced every other year."

Anonymous, MD (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)

"Basically, the air conditioning system had been working and then just quit blowing cold air. The service agent explained that due to the age, several components including compressor and condenser would need to be replaced to restore capability. This repair was cost prohibitive on a 12 to 13 year old vehicle being driven in normally cooler Canadian climates."

Anonymous, VA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)

"I just did comment on the AC system"

Anonymous, (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

Charles T., AL (2008 Honda Ridgeline 3.5-L V6)

"The climate system was not registering when to turn the heater down. Had to turn it off to keep it from being too warm in the car. Was difficult to diagnose, but is working fine now. Nothing was fixed."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"pressure switch that controls AC or compressor went out,"

Anonymous, OH (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"Blowing hot air on one side cold on the other."

Hernandez R., FL (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)

"Two times now, I've experienced air blowing but no cold air came out. The part that tells the system to blow cool air had to be replaced."

Anonymous, LA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)

"While in automatic mode, the system seems to have a mind of it's own. It can be 100 degrees outside and the temperature inside will be outputting heated air instead of refrigerated air. A series of manual control steps are necessary to reset the system to get it to work properly again."

Anonymous, KS (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)
Condenser

"Had to be replaced"

Alex S., BC (2008 Honda Ridgeline 3.5-L V6)

Robert S., CO (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"This problem is only a few days old and since all the components work it was suspect to be low on refrigerant."

Anonymous, ND (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)

"The AC does not work due to leaks and/or failure of the condenser/evaporation systems"

Anonymous, (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"Leak cannot be found. Dye doesn't appear to help locate leak."

Robert W., NC (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"Had the vehicle back to dealer numerous times....soured me on climate control...would opt for straight ac"

Garrick H., VA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, KS (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)
Interior lights

"Cabin lights over the front seats do not work, I put new bulbs in then took to dealer for general services they said they couldn't fix, not sure why there is no power to the socket or the ground could be bad. next time i take it in the odds are a different mechanic maybe they can find problem, otherwise it's been a great Truck"

Mike K., NE (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"Lights randomly go out"

Anonymous, ON (2008 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"Interior lights don't function when driver door open only. Lights work when other doors are open. Warning signal when headlights are left on also not working. Car does not have auto lights shutoff, so this can be a problem"

Thomas R., NY (2008 Honda Ridgeline 3.5-L V6)

"Often have to have bulbs replaced (more than normal)"

Sabrina B., LA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)

"The lights to the stereo quit. I was told that it would cost $550..00 + to repair. On line I learned that this has occurred often"

Anonymous, AL (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"One of the two overhead lights that come on when the door(s) are opened is out. I understand that this has been a common problem in earlier Ridgelines. It was also a problem we had with a 2006 RTL"

Mary H., AZ (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"The driver maplight no longer illuminates when the door opens although it still works when toggled on"

Michael F., WY (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

What Owners Say

Loose exterior trim or moldings

"within the first 2 weeks the trim on top of the side of the bed just blew off while driving i found it back and the dealers response was ah well also the tailgate chain rusted through and so did the cable that operated the lock again response was ah well"

Peter B., MD (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTX 3.5-L V6)

Joe B., MI (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
Loose interior trim or moldings

"Starting to rattle inside at +90K"

Paul J., PA (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"The headliner separated from the interior vehicle roof. Adhesive failed. Common failure with Ridgelines in Hawaii at the 5-7 year point. Honda estimate to replace was exorbitant ($1800 and 3 week delay for parts). Local Upholstery shop did excellent job in 4 hours for $450."

Robert H., HI (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)
Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"clear coat on roof is cracking and peeling"

Anonymous, WI (2008 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)

As I understand it there are drains on the roof which are supposed to carry awa water from the sunroof down the pillar btw the front and rear seats. Somehow the drain is clogged but my mechanic cant reproduce the situation. I worry about something rusting but the seatbelts eventually dries. So far just a recurring annoyance."
