    Hardware replacement

Eventually it would not work at all, from when the truck started to when it stoped. The only way to true off the static was to turn off the audio. A Honda dealer diagnosed it and it turned out to be overheating."

Radio is a basic model, not a safety or security assist service as claimed. 8 years after purchase without a relationship with dealer just an effort at manipulation. Truly soured me in the beand"

Anonymous, MD (2017 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

""2017 Ridgeline RTLE - 97K miles... recently started having an issue with the OEM infotainment system. Everything boots normally and the audio sounds normal when the ignition first turns on - regardless of the source. However, after driving for 15-30 mins, a subtle static starts to fade in and progressively "takes over" whatever audio source I'm using until it completely drowns out the music and eventually everything becomes inaudible - just pure static. Switching to other audio sources doesn't change anything - the static overpowers all of it and remains regardless of using FM / AM / Bluetooth / Sat / Aux etc. - all sound the same. Turning the radio head unit audio on/off also doesn't change anything. Also, there's no change in the static frequency with acceleration, so it doesn't appear to be correlated with speed or engine interference. The only fix seems to be completely turning off the ignition and "resetting" the infotainment system, but even then it only temporarily comes back to a "normal" state until the cycle starts all over again. Issue was corrected with a new radio.""

Anonymous, FL (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

""The radio doesn't work after fifteen minutes. It has static and no reception. Honda knows about the problem and hasn't addressed the problem with the radios in the Ridgeline,""

Anonymous, AR (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
    Body control module

"Actually it's the Keyless Access Control Unit (a.k.a. Smart Power Control Unit) that is the issue. Not Body Control Unit. Alarm, headlights and dash gauges would go off/flash and click when parked. Found repair on YouTube that I performed and saved around $2K. More than Service Bulletn 21-055. Some dendritick growth on BCM due to mfg defect, one electronic part was not properly sealed prior to installation. Poor quality control if you ask me."

    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

Other minor transmission & clutch problem

"Needed transmission flushed twice due to engine rpm fluctuation with transmission shuddering. Finally told the fluid needs to be changed every 30000 miles. Told the fluid burns up"

Anonymous, MO (2017 Honda Ridgeline Unsure 3.5-L V6)

""I get "Transmission system problem" and "blind spot system problem" error messages approximately 50% of the time I use the truck. It started at about 70,000 miles or 4 years ago. If I restart the truck the error messages go away. I took it to Honda a couple of years ago and they said if it keeps happening they recommend a new transmission for $8300. I'm not willing to pay $8300 when the transmission feels fine, no slippage, no loss of gas mileage, so I just keep driving it with the annoying error messages.""

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)

"problem they called judder required multiple flushes with transmission fluid. Two years later it started judder again. Fluid was replaced as part of an e pensive total fluid overhaul"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
    Rough shifting

""While driving along the truck would suddenly jerk, sometimes seeming to stall before shifting into gear.""

Anonymous, IL (2017 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition 3.5-L V6)

"A byproduct of the torque converter issue which wasnt resolved to my satisfaction"

Anonymous A., CA (2017 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition 3.5-L V6)

""The slipping and rough shifting between 2nd and 3rd gears was originally intermittent, but this is a sign that the transmission will eventually fail and need to be replaced. It has quickly progressed to a point of consistently exhibiting the problem whenever it is "under load." If we accelerate gently and drive on flat ground without anything extra in the bed, then we don't always experience it. But as soon as we accelerate a little harder, load any cargo, or drive up a decent incline, the problem returns, and will continue to happen every time it shifts between 2nd and 3rd, until we turn it off and let it rest for a period of time. It seems that each time the problem occurs, it is worse than the last time, and the transmission will soon need to be replaced, which is a very costly repair. There apparently is no other way to solve this issue other than replacement, but we cannot afford to replace a $10,000 transmission in a $16000 truck.""

Anonymous, OH (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
    Slipping transmission

    "Gear was jarring"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
    Transmission sensor or solenoid

"The Ridgeline was taken to the dealership several times for the shifting problem but they never seemed to be able to find the problem. After about a year there was a recall for the replacement of a solenoid switch that seems to have solved the problem. There have been no problems since the solenoid was replaced."

Anonymous, IL (2017 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition 3.5-L V6)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Catalytic converter

"I needed to replace my catalytic converter last year. It started with a check engine light on the dashboard. I brought the truck in to the dealer and they reset the computer. I drove the truck another few months and the engine light came on again. The dealer then replaced the injectors. Drove the vehicle another few months and the engine light came on again. This time I needed to replace the CC. I was upset than it would cost over $2000. After much negotiation with the dealer we split the difference."

    Anonymous A., MA (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"Was told it needed to be replaced. Have been able to get by using some cataclean when the light comes on."

Anonymous, WI (2017 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition 3.5-L V6)

"The unit failed due to age. Parts from Honda are very expensive with less warranty than aftermarket parts. Replaced with aftermarket unit and no problems after two years."

Anonymous, MI (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
    Other/unsure

"3rd time had to have the tailgate repaired to allow it to swing open."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"Alternator failed yes the problem was fixed"

    Anonymous, (2017 Honda Ridgeline Sport 3.5-L V6)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Torque converter

"I had a system monitor alert that told me my transmission was failing. It displayed some error information. Ran my diag device and it gave me a code. Searched the internet and found details and luckily for me, Honda had already addressed the issue and was offering free torque converter replacement. Got that completed and all is well, plus Honda extended the transmission warranty to 100,000 miles."

    Anonymous A., CA (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

""Transmission light on. Went to dealer who told me lots of metal shavings in transmission fluid. He recommended total replacement of transmission and said this is common in 2017 models. But, even though cost covered by extended warranty, said he had to get Honda corporate to sign off They said theyd only cover torque converter. Roughly $3000. Wouldnt cover total replacement of roughly $7000 Service advisor didnt agree but told me his hands were tied. So converter replaced but now I worry which will happen first: warranty expires or transmission light comes back on indicating full replacement needed.""

Anonymous A., CA (2017 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition 3.5-L V6)

"Seems to require frequent transmission oil change. The transmission overheats when pulling a trailer unless shifted into D4. Experienced torque converter issues briefly, and changed the trans oil - again."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Ridgeline Unsure 3.5-L V6)

"Received message about transmission problem through trucks on board maintenance minder. Called local Honda dealer and gave them my vin number. They wanted to see vehicle and determined it was the torque converter. They replaced under a Honda service bulletin at no charge."

Anonymous, GA (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
    Transmission rebuild or replacement

""The 2017 Ridgeline is well documented to have transmission problems (including a recall for a faulty torque converter - already replaced before we bought the vehicle), though we were not aware of this when we bought the vehicle. Not long after we purchased it 7 months ago, the transmission started a slight slip, followed by a hard shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. We were advised to have a 3x flush and fill, which seemed to resolve the issue temporarily. One month ago, the issue returned, and was much more severe. It does not happen under all conditions, but when accelerating harder than normal, or driving up a hill, or carrying any weight in the bed, we experience the issue nearly every time. We were advised by two separate Honda dealers that the transmission cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced with a $10,000 Honda remanufactured transmission. Even though we have read many reports of Honda offering assistance to customers in this situation, they will not offer us any assistance or reduction in price because we have no historical service records, and the previous owners did not upload receipts to document the services and maintenance that have been performed on the vehicle. So, because there is no documentation available, Honda's position is that the truck has not been maintained, even though it is a very clean and nice truck and obviously well cared for. And for this reason, Honda decided we will have to bear the entire cost of replacing the transmission in a truck we just purchased, with less than 100k miles on it. This reflects poorly on not only this vehicle, but also on Honda, in that they have not offered a recall or extended warranty on the entire transmission, in spite of a well-documented history of failures. They will cover replacement of the torque converter, but frequently, replacing the torque converter does not actually solve the problem, and the transmission still fails. If we had documentation that the vehicle had been maintained regularly at a Honda dealership, they would have been willing to cover a significant portion of the cost of replacing the transmission. However, since it was serviced at independent facilities, we cannot prove the vehicle has been properly maintained, and they will not support their customers by resolving a problem that is well known. For this reason, even though we really like the Ridgeline, we will not buy another Ridgeline, and we are not sure whether we will ever buy another Honda. I informed the representative from Honda customer service of this, and her response was simply that she's sorry to hear that, but they will still not offer any support for resolving the issue. They don't care if they lose customers, they are not going to issue a recall and will not offer assistance unless you have clearly documented proof that the vehicle has been properly maintained.""

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Premature brake wear

"I have had to frequently replace the brakes and they seem undersized for the truck"

Anonymous, PA (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
    Pulsation or vibration

""brakes showed pulsing in the pedal at 35k miles, and the vehicle is not driven hard. brakes were worn out at 50k miles, which seems soon. while brake performance is adequate, i would not describe it as very impressive. seems to me that the system is a bit undersized for the application (small pickup truck). calipers and rotors should be larger to deal with the heat.""

    Anonymous A., CA (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
    Rotors

"front rotors required replacement due to warping"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"For several moonths my brakes gave a pulsing/vibrating sensation that turned out to be the rear rotors"

Anonymous, PA (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

""I felt slight vibration in my Ridgeline while braking, shortly after a friend had violent vibration on her Honda Pilot, months after their brakes were replaced. Friends who operate a Honda/Acura repair shop said they see it often on some Honda Pilots, Ridgelines, and Odysseys. And they said it often recurs not long after replacement. So I did some research, and found a brand of brakes that are advertised as high power, maximum performance, heavy duty, trailer towing suitable, etc. I replaced both my friend's brakes and mine with them, and both vehicles have been fine since.""

    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Other major engine problem

"A cam sensor inside the engine for some reason came loose and triggered check engine light and ran very rough. It would reset after shutting off and then became intermittent. This was a know issue with this engine and the dealer charged us approximately $3000 to repair. It's been running fine since then."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
    Timing belt or chain

"Vehicle kept jerking then would run for a few miles then start again. Sensors indicated problems but were incorrect. After this problem fixed for over 7,000 dollars the truck started to start by itself which was another 1,500 to fix"

    Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

""vehicle is white. the paint is coming off in large areas on the driver door. currently an area a bit larger than a deck of cards is flaked off. the primer paint is exposed. no rust is evident, but it is very ugly. i think honda should offer to repaint the door. there is another smaller area on the rear quarter panel, about 1/2 along the length. about the size of a 1/2 dollar coin, that is flaking too. it's clearly a defect in the paint or paint application.""
