    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Torque converter

""Error message at 50.000 mines, replaced torque converter at 59,000 miles with no help from Honda""

    Anonymous A., OK (2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

    "Recall due to torque converter."

Anonymous, OK (2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"while reporting intermittent issues for 18 months, Honda denied any concerns. Unit failed and was replaced at my expense. About a year later Honda issued a recall- extended warrantee for torque convertor. I pursued Honda and they reimbursed me about 80%"

Anonymous, PA (2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

""There was a manufacturer's defect that caused the torque converter to be replaced. I was receiving a transmission warning when the vehicle reached 60 MPH. They replaced the torque converter for free. It was near but under 100,000 miles when it occurred. The dealership acted like they didn't know what the problem was even though I found information on the internet stating it was a widespread problem. I had to agree to pay for a diagnostic test before they would do anything. As expected, the torque converter was bad, and they didn't charge me for the diagnostic test or the replacement.""

    Anonymous A., VA (2018 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

""As mentioned, the torque converter is the culprit for the shudder in the transmission. According to Hondas service bulletin, this issue can be solved with 3 complete transmission fluid flush/changes and a software update. This service would cost close to $1000. The shudder started when the truck was about 4 years old. The dealer charged me about $200 just to diagnose and document the shudder, prior to me getting the first tranny flush/change and software update. The shudder has gone away after this first service.""

    Anonymous A., MA (2018 Honda Ridgeline Sport 3.5-L V6)

"No performance issue but warning light came on to take to dealer. Item was defective and rebuilt at NO charge because of a TSB."

    Anonymous A., WI (2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"I did not notice any performance issue with the vehicle but a warning light came on and said to take to dealer. Dealer found the torque converter/transmission to be defective. It was rebuilt at NO charge under a TSB."

    Anonymous A., WI (2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"Truck would lurch between gears. Check engine light came on"

Anonymous, PA (2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"At 158000 miles the transmission started to slip and shift hard from 1st to second gear and from second to third gear. I finally had to replace the transmission. Honda extended the warranty on the torque converter to 150000 miles but it was too late for me."

    Anonymous A., KY (2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

Other minor transmission & clutch problem

"The truck lightly surged during acceleration. A triple flush of the transmission fluid fixed the problem."

    Anonymous A., MN (2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
    Slipping transmission

""Started a year ago. The transmission would jump gears causing the vehicle to Buck. Sometimes repeatedly for a whole trip, and sometimes not at all. It was distracting to say the least and dangerous when I was in traffic. Honda had a recall for the torque converter which they replaced, but it still continued to Buck. The transmission was on an extended time frame recall also. But Honda dealers would not replace it. So it continues to be a problem and the extended warranty ends this August with only 69,000 mi on the vehicle. Not exactly a reason to buy again. So, I bought a 76,000 dollar VW ID""

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"at around 75,000 miles my transmission started slipping in the mid 40 miles per hour range. I did not know it was suppose to have a transmission service before that. My cars service light indicators did not inform me that I needed maintenance, nor when I went to the Honda dealer to change oil etc, did they suggest it. I've had it serviced 5 times now and am worried I will need to get a new transmission at some point."

    Anonymous A., CA (2018 Honda Ridgeline Unsure 3.5-L V6)
    Transmission computer

"My Ridgeline experienced a shudder in the transmission while accelerating and during slight inclines. This problem is recognized in a Honda Service Bulletin but NOT recalled or covered under warranty. A combination of transmission fluid flush and change (3 times) and a software update is what the bulletin recommends."

    Anonymous A., MA (2018 Honda Ridgeline Sport 3.5-L V6)
    Transmission sensor or solenoid

"Receiving the transmission problem / blind side warning failure light when it is driven over 60MPH. So far not fixed"

Sensors (O₂, or oxygen, sensor), emission-control devices (includes EGR), fuel-injection system, fuel gauge/sender, fuel pump, problems filling up the tank.

    What Owners Say

""After replacing the recalled fuel pump, the fuel injection system caused Check Engine warning lit up. Dealer informed me that this too was subject to a recall/replacement if Check Engine lit up before 100k miles.""

Anonymous, NV (2018 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)
    Fuel pump

"Light accelerator fibration at steady speed in 1750-2000 rpm range. Honda recall resolved issue with redesigned pump impeller in 2024."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"Fuel pump was subject of recall. It took almost 12 months after notification of the decal before dealership schedule recall service."

Anonymous, NV (2018 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Catalytic converter

"Vehicle was surging/chugging when being driven. I was told by dealership theythought that both catalytic converters had failed and the computer agreed but it was possible something else could be causing it to appear the converters were bad. They wanted $5600 to replace them even though it might not fix the problem. I called Honda customer service and after some back and forth over a 2 week period. They agreed to replace the converters for only $2000. This fixed the issue. Also while the truck was in their shop they replaced all the fuel injectors under warranty."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition 3.5-L V6)
