First Drive: 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale is a Disappointing Effort
Besides the stiff ride and the loud cabin, this compact SUV offers little Alfa-ness
Update: Since this first drive was originally published in July, 2023, we finished testing the Alfa Romeo Tonale. Read the complete Alfa Romeo Tonale road test.
The Alfa Romeo Tonale isn’t up to the Italian brand’s standards, whether compared with the Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV, or even Alfa Romeos of yore. It doesn’t ride well, isn’t particularly sporty, and has a variety of frustrating controls.
Skip Ahead
Based on the same platform as the Jeep Compass and new Dodge Hornet, the Tonale is offered only as an all-wheel-drive, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and comes in three trims: Sprint ($42,995), Ti ($44,995), and Veloce ($47,495).
