Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 Hyundai Genesis owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"Either the camers broke or there is an open circuit in the power or data cabling. It started about 6 weeks ago, the display in the dashboard still works for its other applications. I have opened the inside of the trunk but have not yet analyzed or repaired the problem."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Front and side sensor give off random alarms when there is nothing in proximity."

Anonymous, GA (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Sensor alarm goes off when vehicle is stopped or moving slowly."

Anonymous, AB (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"proximity warning either provided spurious input (very infrequently) or no input at all in forward drive"

Anonymous, AZ (2015 Hyundai Genesis)

"The front sensors have been working intermittingly. When I place the car in reverse they come on and work for a while. Once I'm driving and come to an occasion I might need them they are not working. Example entering my garage they don't indicate when I'm getting close to objects. When I took it in for service they were of course working, I have made a new appointment to try and determine a fix. The dealer as yet does not acknowledge any issue they can fix"

Derek I., NB (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Center front parking sensor went off all the time. The set of 3 front sensors was replaced"

Ralph E., IL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Would not work multiple times"

Anonymous, PA (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Blind spot detection system"

Anonymous, AB (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 5.0-L V8)
Display screen freezes up

"Display seemed to freeze up and display distorted image. I was told that the radio had to be replaced and that its guarantee was shorter than the 5-year/100,000km car warranty! That warranty had expired but Genesis agreed to replace the radio for free."

Anonymous, QC (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Navigation system locked up during a several hundred mile road trip."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)
Display screen goes blank

"Periodically, the display screen goes blank. Sometimes turning off the car and restarting it will reset it."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Problem is very occasional. Resetting resolves the issue; Hyundai says cannot find issue. Operator error? Who knows!?"

Anonymous, TX (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"odometer rest itself to 0"

Philip A., IL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Screen went blank after moving (except for backup camera and radio listing on top)"

Anonymous, MD (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"With 600 miles on the odometer the display stop working affecting the GPS, Radio, CD player, Bluetooth and affected the ability to adjust the heating system. It took Hyundai 6 weeks to get a replacement part"

Anonymous, NY (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"This car has been in the shop 6 times with the display problem and the associated heat not working"

Anonymous, TN (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"At times, the car connects to Siri but then immediately drops it. The dealer advised of a fix, however I was not interested in pursuing it (costly) since it is only an intermittent problem at this point."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"When I plug in my phone thru the USB port, the connection occasionally kicks in and out. If I am listening to a podcast or music, it goes silent and then starts up again very quickly."

Anonymous, NV (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Device is primative considering the age of the car and can't be updated"

Bruce G., IL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"My Ipod would loose connection, freeze, with the system after playing for a couple of hours on road trips. I would have to disconnect the ipod, turn off the car, then reconnect. I have the last generation of the classic ipod"

Anonymous, NY (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)
Hardware replacement

"Under warranty, dealer replaced head unit and either installed a faulty USB unit or did not properly connect the USB. When vehicle was returned to me, USB did not work. After many months of dealer not being able to identify problem, they replaced the USB unit that I had to pay for."

Anonymous, ID (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"The car symbol drifts on the map"

Anonymous, CO (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"System often improperly displays current location of the vehicle (for example it has shown the vehicle to be several streets away from actual location, and occassionaly even places the vehicle in the middle of a lake."

Barry K., FL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"I am titled as a Certified Computer Professional (CCP). For us users there are 4 functions to perform which are to ADD (to create the whole of) something as new that now needs to be added; or to CHANGE something that is there now that needs to be updated; or DELETE the whole of something that is there now, which is no longer needed; or VIEW something which allows users to just look at it. This rule is true for all software applications! Leonard Rattini, CCP"

Anonymous, NC (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Unusable, unreliable"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"System misidentifies correct location of vehicle, causing it to give faulty directions."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Navigation system will guide you off a highway, through some side roads, and back on the highway. This is reproducible on several roads in my vicinity, including state and interstate highways. Hyundai recommends to but map update (nothing wrong with the map, the interstate has been in the same place since the 1960's and the state highway was finished in 2009. This is not a map issue, it's a routing issue. Map updates cost $219.00 about once or twice a year, and are outdated when delivered. Google maps is free, has better traffic information (for traffic updates one also needs a SiriusXM subscription for $100+/year) and much better updates for new roads, and better POI coverage. The Genesis GPS system is useless unless one spends >$300 per year to keep maps updated that are free on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have been added to all lower spec 2015 Hyundai Genesis models at no charge, but not to the Ultimate trim. Buying the most expensive version of that car gets you the privilege to pay extra for lower quality maps and traffic guidance. GPS unit had to be replaced once (losing all settings, stored addresses, radio stations, etc.) due to a failure of the SiriusXM radio portion of the unit. Since then, the voice recognition is worse, map guidance seems to have gotten worse, and dealer refuses to update software (buy the map update for $219 is the solution)."

Otmar F., TX (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"GPS often does not recognize cities or address for input. Sometime it works, often it doesn't."

Anonymous, AL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Almost impossible to scroll through the screens..also GPS is not intuitive at all...one letter mistake in address yields not found response"

Stanley B., NC (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 5.0-L V8)

"complicated and unintuitive. over half the addresses I input can't be found. Maps are inaccurate. Took to dealer for an update and was told it would cost $300. This navigation system absolutely STINKS!"

Robert M., WV (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"The entire screen went blank navigation/back-up camera/radio system everything. A few weeks later the car would not start or do anything. We had not the screen situation yet Green Hyundai guarantee towed our car for repairs - the battery had no power. The cost of the battery was $400. We had to pay $300 prorated after 2 yrs age no bumper to bumper guarantee. They had to order a new electronics unit radio/navigation/blue tooth. This was under guarantee for 3 years. Now new sy"

Anonymous, IL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

Robert R., PA (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Initially, car was unable to understand any voice commands. Nav system also died completely once while driving. System was reset, and it works, but it makes some bad routing decisions and many points of interest are not in the database"

Anonymous, TX (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Map navigation card not detected from time to time & has to be reinserted. Will not accept my new MP 3 player. Blue tooth phone system has some type of problem in that it will not accept or make calls from time to time, then works fine"

Anonymous, OH (2015 Hyundai Genesis)

"In dash navigation issues are related to voice command and age of updates in the vehicle. There are already updates to the brand new system and Hyundai wants to charge $219 for an update in a $51,000 vehicle. For $219 I can purchase a Garmin and get"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

Anonymous, CT (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Voice control interpretation of commands on the 2015 "Ultimate" spec car is wrong 80% of the time. "Drive to address" ends up calling random phone numbers, other commands fail repeatedly. Known issue with Hyundai, that they claim is solved by selling a $250 software update that the customer has to pay for. Worst voice recognition system I have ever used on any car"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Front turn signal bulbs burned out much too often. Car is 5 years old and have replaced each bulb about once per year. Adding to it was the cost to repair, as the bumper has to be removed to replace the bulb so the labor cost is excessive. Their answer was that these bulbs burn out."

Had to make an appointments to get bulbs changed with around a 2 hour wait at the dealership plus paying labor and parts costs. Anonymous, WI (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Had a problem with the right turn signal. Had to replace 3 bulbs in a 12 month period. There were 2 issues related to this problem. 1) in order to replace the turning signal light they have to remove the bumper. Therefore, replacing a $2 bulb costs $150 due to labor....bad engineering. 2) I was without the car for 3 weeks for them to try and determine the problem. Turned out to be a short in the headlight harness."

R S., TX (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

Wiper motor or washer

"The automatic wipers may run full speed, while sitting in the garage, or they may not work in pouring rain. They also may start working, then slow, then speed up, having nothing to do with the amount of rain. With the new Genesis approach to service, the dealer where we bought the car cannot do warranty work, only oil changes, so we will have to go to the other end of the city to have warranty service on both the lights and the wipers."

"right side will suddenly start heating when car is supposed to be air conditioning. Turning the temperature knob full hot and cold a few times will solve it for an indeterminate amount of time. Dealer has never been able to fix it--claim they can't reproduce it because it's intermittent."

Anonymous, TX (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Transient vibration at 25 mph only. Currently under investigation by the dealer. Not resolved yet."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"Car vibrates excessively in idle when in gear (at stop sign or traffic light). Feels like a 1980's Diesel, steering wheel, seat, sun visor, inside mirror vibrate, very noticeable. Separate issue: Car vibrates when driving. Steering wheel vibrates at any speed, from 5 mph to 85 mph. Attempts to fix include: New tires, wheels balanced 12 times(!), car aligned, new/machined brake rotors. Issue is persistent, and three different Hyundai dealers have tried to fix. Hyundai allegedly sent engineer to fix. Issue remains unresolved after 7 or 8 visits to the dealership with the car out of my hands for over 2 month total (low end rentals provided by Hyundai). This is the worst car I have ever leased. I lease new every 2-3 years. Even the rental cars I have been given (including a VW Jetta, CHEVROLET Cruze, Hyundai Elentra, Nissan Versa) drive better than my $50,000 supposed luxury car. The excuses I have been given for the issues reach from the roads you drive are bad (no other car driven on same roads has vibration issues ), car is out of alignment (had it aligned, no issues were found), tires are bad (new tires provided by Hyundai after 10,000 miles, same brand - no change), wheel is bent (checked by two different dealers and a tire shop, all wheels are fine), to finally this is normal. I can't wait for the lease to be over, I will never get another Genesis after this. The brand is not ready for prime-time and neither are the cars."

Otmar F., TX (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"The car vibrates when you first drive it until it is warm. They have replaced the wheels and tires and still have the problem. Waiting for an Engineer to come to the dealer. Service is terrible at Hyundai - not treated as luxury car"

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)
Stability control (ESC)

"Occasionally, when turning onto a street in an intersection, if I accellerate quickly and the computer senses some wheel slippage, the esc clicks in and applies braking and cuts power to the driving whells momentarily. This results in a momentary stall in the middle of a turn in a busy intersection. This is scary as a left turn against heavy traffic only allows a small margin of time to safely make the turn. If the car shuts down, for even a second, it is frightening to be stalled as oncoming traffic is bearing down on you. I think it is the esc but it could be the traction control. The dealership is clueless but I haven't seriously persued the matter. I don't know if this is a bug in all esc?"

Anonymous, ON (2015 Hyundai Genesis None 3.8-L V6)

"When making a right turn into traffic and accelerating, there is several hesitation before acceleration occurs. This does not happen when ESC has been turned off. I wonder if ESC is causing the car to not want to go when wheel is turned to the right"
