    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Engine rebuild or replacement

"Known defect that was not disclosed by previous owner led to bearings cracking and engine needing to be completely replaced."

Anonymous, OR (2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The engine was using a quart of oil every 200 miles right before Hyundai made me to a combustion chamber cleaning, etc. for $1,300 and within a couple of weeks the engine died. After all of the required work, I spent over $4,000 on the car. The engine was still burning a quart of oil every 900 miles and they told me that was within their acceptable consumption levels. They were just trying to get as much money as they could from me. They did not want to replace the engine and they did everything they could to avoid it. It was not a good experience at all. It was very frustrating and I was being taken advantage of by the Hyundai dealership. The customer service was horrible and I was not the only person having issues by far. Hyundai has not been putting out good engines for a while now. I had no idea about the issues when I purchased the carand a good many people were in the same situation as me. I changed my oil every 3,000 miles and did all of the maintenance. The company does not stand behind their products and they try to force all kinds of tests and work that is not covered under warranty just hoping the oil consumption problems will go away. Their recommendation was to sell the car as quickly as I couldand that was their service manager. During the 6 months I was dealing with the issues, my point of contact with Hyundai Corporate changed about 5 times. There was no continuity and the employees were not able to be helpful at all. I felt very taken advantage of by Hyundai as well as the dealership in Nashville. They were not kind at all through the process. There was so much employee turnover that it was impossible to make any progress with the dealership as well as corporate. I will never own another Hyundai and I will tell everyone I know about my experiences with this vehicle."

""Engine completely froze, inoperable, was replaced by Hyundai at no cost""

Anonymous, IL (2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"THe problem started roughly 5 years ago. Every time you took the car to a touchless car wash the engine would shut down. It was still under warranty and the dealership said it MIGHT become an total engine failure requiring an engine replacement. On a long trip the motor failed under stress. The motor was replaced. Immediately after being replaced the new motor began hesitating under load. The dealership was unable to fix the problem with their final word being that "we do not know what is causing it but we know it's not the motor". I tried many things to rectify the problem but it continues."

If the hood is not securely closed or the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
    Summary:
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2017 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch actuating cable may corrode and bind, causing the secondary hood latch to remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.
    What should you do:
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the secondary latch cable, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owner's may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for the recall is 163.
