The Santa Fe is a well-equipped and pleasant car-based SUV that rides comfortably and quietly. It also has a refined powertrain and a nicely finished cabin. Handling is not particularly agile, though secure. Further, weight takes a toll on acceleration and fuel economy, plus interior volume is less roomy than it might appear to be on the outside. A tip-up in government rollover tests is cause for concern.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"I can outrun any similar style vehicle with its V6 engine. Don't tell the police, but I have driven this fine vehicle at 90+ mph with no lagging. It never ceases to amaze me."

Anonymous, GA (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Accelerates, still, as much as needed."

JAMES B., FL (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The 3.5 liter engine is much better than the 2.7 liter engine as far as power, acceleration, and the vehicle handles very well in rain, snow, cornering."

Anonymous, PA (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I love the power of the engine. When I get onto the freeway or needed to pass someone, there is no hesitation with the engine. Handles very well."

Anonymous, CA (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"This vehicle has a 3.5 liter engine with plenty of power.. its fun to drive"

GERARD L., FL (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"It jumps forward at times. Scares the heck out of you"

KAREN S., CA (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I have been driving a 4 cylinder 2004 Santa Fe. The 2005 Santa Fe is a V6.....especially good pick up and power up hills!"

DEBORAH A., WA (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Noisy ride. Had to upgrade tires, still more noise than we care for."

Anonymous, WA (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"For an SUV the vehicle, seats still have a very comfortable ride."

Anonymous, PA (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Vehicle was bought in Arizona with a "Desert package" (tinted windows, sun resistant paint). The paint/clear coat started fading within 5 years and the car looks horrendous. I keep vehicles 10+ years and this is the second most expensive car to maintain I have owned (new Volkswagen Beetle was #1). Dealership repair costs are ridiculous."

ERIC D., FL (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Good value. I like the visibility I have when driving it. Also like the SUV because of the ease of loading items in the back. Do not have to bend down into a trunk."

Anonymous, OH (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I got a very good deal"

GERARD L., FL (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"This vehicle is extremely reliable and I have had no repairs other than routine maintenance (brake pads, tires). Even though this car has age on it, I can't imagine getting rid of it for a newer, fancier ride. I love the visibility it provides. When mirrors are adjusted, there are NO blind spots. It is a smooth and substantial ride."

Anonymous, GA (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I thought it should have been a better vehicle, according to what paid for it."

JOYCE R., NC (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Good all wheel drive"

Anonymous, NJ (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"Not crazy about the " bug eye" look of the front, buts it's been extremely reliable"

ROGER M., OH (2005 Hyundai Santa Fe)

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
