This version of the Hyundai Santa Fe is a good SUV. With an interior now big enough for a third-row seat, along with excellent fit and finish, it is a refined and versatile package. Santa Fe also has responsive handling, with a firm but comfortable ride. The 3.3-liter V6 is smooth, but fuel economy is disappointing (a 2.7-liter V6 is standard).

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"It has the 3.3 L engine with great pick-up.ooupled with Michelin tires."

JOHN T., CO (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Handles well in snowy and icy roads."

Anonymous, AK (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Suspension is harsh. It could have been more softer/floaty."

UDAY T., IL (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I have the larger V6 and the acceleration is very good. handling very good and the ride is quite comfortable like a sedan. low noise level also."

DENNIS C., GA (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Not as good acceleration as it could be for getting into traffic."

Anonymous, CT (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"3.3l accelerates well. Steering is too vague for me, my wife (her main car) doesn't seem to mind"

PAUL S., TN (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"This vehicle handles exceptionally well. I have driven in some very strong crosswinds and, unlike previous vehicles, this one hugs the road very well. I feel very safe driving it."

C C., WI (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Steering too quick"

JIM D., AB (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Little bit of torque steer"

Anonymous, BC (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The accelerator pedal is sensitive. Too hard pressure from a start will make car accelerate too fast, and jump with tires spinning. Need to be careful to get a smooth acceleration from a stopped position."

RONALD H., NC (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The different transmission settings take some use to drive efficiently Very difficult to pass without pressing on the accelerator hard"

Anonymous, FL (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Too noisy at high speeds"

Anonymous, UT (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The ride on a smooth road is great; on bumps it is rather harsh; rolling over a pencil feels like a broomstick. It is very bad on speed bumps -- undercarriage bottoms out too easily -- have to creep over speed bumps."

FRED S., AZ (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I have none-power seats but with more than enough manual adjustments."

JOHN T., CO (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Excellent vehicle"

JOHN N., PA (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Excellent seats, front and back, quiet comfortable ride, you actually feel refreshed when you arrive after a long trip"

PAUL S., TN (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Leather seats are a little to hard"

Anonymous, CO (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Comfortable,quiet, good engine"

JOHN W., AZ (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"noise inside while driving"

Anonymous, FL (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Outside odors come in the car, even when fan is on recirculate"

Anonymous, PA (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The seats are rather short and narrow for large and tall drivers. For tall drivers, the seat back must be reclined more than normal to avoid hitting the roof with your head. The telescoping wheel could use longer extension for tall drivers. Leg room is adequate. The seat heaters work well. The car generally is quiet and rides smoothly, but it can suffer a bit more from SUV jarring on uneven roads. The dual zone climate control is effective, but I have had problems with the internal mechanisms."

MARK R., NY (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The seats are comfortable but, not as comfortable as the seat in the 2012 Tucson which support the back much better. There is a very distracting sound made by the wind if the right combination of windows are opened to a certain height."

PETER G., TX (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"The style of the car was worth the value, it had a wide track (as looking from the front of the car) my husband like this very much. We were looking for a car and found the Santa Fe and will never buy a car again. Just an SUV for me. I'm (Mrs) main driver and I want to see out and not be on the ground."

GLORIA E., TX (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"We thought that it was impossible to get such a big, reliable, nicely equiped vehicle for even close to the price we have paid for it new."

SEBASTIAN Z., NY (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I am pleased with this car as far as value is concerned. The car warranty is good."

DAVID C., NC (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Purchased in 2010 with 21,000 miles in mint condition for less than $16,000"

Anonymous, NY (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I thought for the price of the car, that I received more bells and whistles than many other similar vehicles."

DARLENE H., IL (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Highs are 10 air bags, quit, comfortable, interior material, sound system, looks. Lows are acceleration, and gas mileage. If they hadn't changed some of the highs in 2013 I would have bought another one instead of a highlander."

Anonymous, IN (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Great SUV for the price. Nice design and features."

JAMES B., PA (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"that model year was very good for the consumer"

Anonymous, FL (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Need better gas economy"

Anonymous, CA (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I bought a demo 2008 in 2009 so I got a good price. It has been a perfect SUV. No problems! I have only bought a battery and tires in 65,000 miles plus oil changes. Best maintenance of any car I have ever owned!"

WILLIAM B., OH (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I got the car for exactly what I wanted to pay for it"

JOHN N., PA (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"5 year /60,000 mile everything warranty, 10 year/100,000 mile power train warranty. Many, many options included that would have cost big bucks on American mfr. cars. Much better gas mileage than other comparable SUV's. A LOT of pep to it. Virtually problem free since I bought it new."

K K., IL (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The standard Warranty is good but recommend getting an extended warranty if you plan to own the car beyond the standard warranty period. Good value vehicle all around, engine/transmission performance is sub par."

Anonymous, NH (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I am able to negotiate a rather steep difficult driveway in snowy and icy conditions. I can get a lot of cargo in the back."

Anonymous, AK (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Car was loaded but was technically used (4,500 miles; salesperson car/loaner) so got a good deal on it (rebates, markdown)."

STEPHEN M., TX (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"handling and comfort"

Anonymous, MN (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"This vehicle looks great, both inside and out. Everything is conveniently located and there is plenty of room"

C C., WI (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Beautiful, unique exterior. The newer ones are ugly. Great car as well."

Anonymous, WA (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Evolved styling."

JOHN W., AZ (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The styling is in the fashion of many new cars. Unfortunately, a safe view to the rear has been sacrificed for fashion."

FRED S., AZ (2008 Hyundai Santa Fe)
