Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

“Stopped working. No view”

Anonymous, ON (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Unsure 3.3-L V6)

“blind spot detection system failed on the left side of the vehicle and was repaired under warrenty”

Michael H., MD (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

“One of the back-up cameras in the back bumper has become dislodged on several occasions...the bracket that holds it in place comes loose and has broken at least twice”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)

“Blind Spot Detectors intermittently failed”

Karen K., CA (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

“back up cameras went black and was told at dealership this was a common problem and that they would replace it”

Anonymous, ON (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

“BSD system will stop working then start for no reason”

Joe F., AB (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)
Display screen freezes up

“When cold outside, display continually boots and resets. On coldest days, it takes 10 minutes before the display generates enough self heat to start. On spring/summer days there is no unusual boot delay. It is a major pain, because the HVAC controls and radio all use the display”

Scott M., OH (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

“The infotainment system did not work when we took possession of the car. This included the nav system, voice commands etc. It took 2 years for Hyundia to finally replace it. I had to have my wife video tape the console while I was driving to prove it didn't work. PS. The seats in the vehicle are not comfortable as you describe in your reviews. I thought it was just me so I have started asking other owners - all agree they are uncomfortable on long trips”

Anonymous, ON (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

“The GPS does not work, suggests routes that do not work, suggest times that are impossible to achieve (legally). Hard to get voice commands to work for GPS. Working to get it fixed under warrenty”

Anonymous, ON (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

“My iPhone six broke. Prior to this I had no difficulty pairing the IPhone 6 with my car and I could play music, or call my contacts list while driving. I had to use an old IPhone 5 and it will nit pair with my car. Thus, I cannot make handfree calls or play music off if my phone,”

Anonymous, MO (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

“It has indicated you can pair several phones as the same time....however we have never been able to do 2 at a time. Maybe we are too old to understand how to do it properly”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)

“Hyundai dealer found issue with bluetooth speaker module. Replaced under warranty”

George R., KS (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

“clarity of speech for recipient when talking on blue tooth”

Albert A., IL (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)
Voice control commands

“The voice command seldom works correctly. It does not hear what I am saying and does nothing. Or, it mishears what I am saying. For example I will tell the system to call Sarah and it will call someone else. Or it will ask is that correct? And I say it is and it says "is that correct again and again. Now this is moot as my phone will not pair with the system at all so I can't okay music or ask my car to call someone”

Anonymous, MO (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

Glenn T., NC (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

“When I turn on the air conditioning, the compressor does not engage which obviously prevents it from blowing cold air”

Anthony S., NY (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)

“Condenser went out and the compressor also went out. Very disappointing”

Brian B., WV (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)
Blower (fan) motor

“When I turn the air conditioning on, the fan only blows warm/hot air”

Anthony S., NY (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)
Refrigerant leaks

“Small crack in refrigerant line. Replaced under warranty”

Edward P., FL (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

“AC quit cooling, problem traced to bad fitting which resulted in refrigerant leak”

Anonymous, NE (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

“Lines had been damamged in an accident that dealer had missed in repoir, however dealer covered repair under warranty”

Blair G., UT (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)

“High pressure hose leak near crimp...leaked all freon out. Hyundai is aware because the modified the part...the part I purchased is countermeasured to fix the problem. I repaired this myself, so total cost with freon was $150”

Wind noise

“this vehicle is not a very quiet vehicle at freeway speeds (wind noise and tire noise)”

Anonymous, ON (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)

“Driver side, stripping is not correct to prevent air noise from being reduced. It is being worked on by the delalership for resolution”

Chris J., MD (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)

“Just high enough to require radio playing. road noise too is higher than we expected for the costs”

Anonymous, NM (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Unsure 3.3-L V6)

Anonymous, NY (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)

Peter M., NV (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)
