Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"Camera is intermittent, sometimes blank screen"

Arthur F., RI (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)

"The proximity sensors will stop functioning randomly and intermittently. On/Off button will not reactivate. Once car is shut off and restarted the system resets and begins to work again. However it often fails again. Dealer has not been able to fix the problem"

Carl A., MD (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

"Blind spot Detection fails in wet weather. Once if fails even when dried out it can't be reset without turning off the engine. When you get use to this system it becomes a hazard because you might forget it is not working at the time and make a mistake. These should at least rest themselves when they become dry and they should be built so moisture doesn't affect them"

Kenneth S., CO (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)

Electric System

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

Anonymous, VA (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)
Horn

"lock unlock horn indicator stopped working"

Anonymous, AB (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)
Interior lights

"Interior dome light on passenger side goes out intermittently. Sometimes it will come on when tapped. Sometimes it works properly"

James M., MD (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)

Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, oil leaks.

What Owners Say

Engine computer

"The car stalled twice while driving. Brought to dealer and the dealer uploaded the new software"

Tuan N., TX (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.3-L V6)

"We have 6 Hyundai SUVs in our family and have great had great service out of them. The car is still at dealer after 4 weeks with Hyundai directing trouble shooting. This SUV is garaged never been in high water, well maintained. The dealer has replaced most sensors, now change main computer. Problem is starts runs high RPMs Steering wheel shakes, gas petal does not work and if you place it in gear you can not stop it,so I have to pull it into netural, can't turn off, it is very dangerous and hard"

Jerome C., LA (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

What Owners Say

"There is a piece of trim on the track for the panoramic sunroof that is loose and rattles during driving. I've advised my regular Hyundai dealership and they said I had to take it back to the dealership that fixed the original sunroof issue and I have yet to do that"

Peter F., AZ (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)
Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"had some rust starting to form on front hood"

Anonymous, OH (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Refrigerant leaks

"We purchased this vehicle 31 August '15. Before our 1 year, under 15k miles mark we had our 1st A/C outage. No issues found but dealer topped off refrigerant. Less than a month later we had our 2nd outage; this time a leak was found and "fixed" (f&f). About a month after that we had a 3rd outage and a new leak was f&f. About a month later our 4th outage w/leak f&f. Another month until our 5th outage w/leak f&f. With each outage the temperatures would not be the same from driver to passenger"

Anonymous, LA (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, 4WD/AWD components, driveline vibration, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Electrical failure

"Battery would be totally discharged if the car was left unused for more that a couple of days. This happened several times. After several unsuccessful attempts to diagnose the problem, the Service Manager suggested that we may not be using the correct procedure for parking the car. It has to be put in park BEFORE turning the ignition off. If not, some of the electronics are left on and the battery will be discharged. That appears to have solved the problem"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)

Peter F., AZ (2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 3.3-L V6)
